But has to give it every chance before making that call - same thing

No actually......games involving teams large distances apart are frequently postponed earlier than local matches which get more chance for conditions to improve than the former?

Quite fitting really. A joke of a competition in association with a comic.

it is an interesting conundrum thiis regular condemnation of the Sun. Of course it's views are worthy of condemnation ....however it is like Trump's tweets. I doubt any of us follow him on Twitter but every morning you wake up to the radio alarm and some programme ridiculing his over night tweet. The problem is that the condemnation brings the tweet to the attention of people who would not otherwise have had any knowledge of it...and doubtless Trump wants his tweets to be the centre of attraction.....similarly every time the untruths in the Sun are mentioned is just gives oxygen to the views we condemn.....as I say to highlight or ignore is a moot point

At least magister got the chance to google a new word to try and look clever. He even mananaged to spell it correctly. Copy n paste is a fine thing.

I can't imagine  that anybody who would know what to google to get the answer "cognoscenti"  would need  to google it?

We have a few OWTB wrestling matches going at the moment, top of the bill is Monty Burns v Magister.

I'm thinking of selling tickets to their next bout.

I've fought both in the past in wars of words and lost comprehensively.

You win your fair share BP.....well against Monty anyway ??

Fuck that. He goes to Oldham sixth form and his texts are Jerusalem and I can't remember t'other one, thats the best I'm giving you.

I don't examine English but my understanding was that Butterwoth's Jerusalem was an AS text and that AS had been decoupled from A level ...certainly by OCR .....I may well be wrong though....

I'm almost sure I had a guess at you being an embittered former teacher once and you said you were in some sort of commercial role?

Why can't you be both.....schools and colleges have several million pound budgets to manager.....Mr Francis has no teaching background but manages your curriculum and it works vice - versa too

    Ok, here is my problem;

My youngest son is a year 12 A Level English student (and Law diploma, but that is irrelevant).

So far this year he has had one deadline and there are three more to come, he also sits an exam at the end of this year. So he will be judged five times this year alone, I am not up to speed on next year yet, but there is one. Therefore, with one year plus one year being two years, he will be judged over two years and not two exams.

My choice now is either to believe the actual truth or to believe some guy with a condescending Latin name, with a -200+ rep, who likes to go around correcting the mistakes of others and is totally blind to the plethora of mistakes he makes himself.

This choice is not a tough one.

......and is an A level examiner

I could keep picking holes in your argument but I won't.

Corney has already demonstrated that results in big games don't count towards a manager's job security. Likewise he has demonstrated a willingness to give manager's out of their depth time. Neither of which apply to Wellens

Wellens' results over 14 games, although technically it is less than that as by appointing him he restarted the clock, don't matter. The results over 6 / 7 months do. If we are languishing in the relegation zone in a few months Wellens will be gone. It doesn't matter if Wellens overall record in that time would be mid-table.

Exactly....the longer the period of assessment  and the more evidence there is from from  tests the better the chances of a fairer judgement.?

So how many exams is it per A-level then. Is it 1, 2, 3? How long are they? Oh dear.

Yep that is the point.... an 18 year old wanting to read medicine will as you know require 3 As .....if he/she has one bad/unlucky 3 hour exam and finishes up with C in chemistry for example he/she won't be reading Medicine the following October.

That 3 hour exam for that student is potentially life changing but on here we blithely dismiss a football manager's results over 14 games as not indicative of anything. ....a strange world
