Norwood is our top scorer on 16 goals. I think it’s then Dickinson and Reid on 5 each, both of which don’t make the squad.

So we are going into a run of fixtures with Nathon Sheron as our top scorer on 4.

This is the biggest worry for me. I'm worried that the current backup strikers just won't score enough goals...mainly because we don't create enough chances, and the new boys are just not match fit or have not had the chance to bed in.

But who knows, we may have to change how we play a bit now and the others strikers may step up to the plate, but whichever way you look at it, Norwood being out till April is a massive blow.

Hi NZ and thank you for replying. My point, though, was about Garner being seen by you as a replacement for Stones and an upgrade on Fondop. I fail to see much logic in signing a player on a permanent who will be approaching 38 years old when his contract is up. From the little I have seen of Latics so far, we lack physicality, energy and desire. It's a poor standard of football this league. If the plan is to just get promoted out of this league quick, so throwing lots of money around now then get some big, physical lads in, a cultured midfielder and play 4 4 2. Once promoted re-jig it. Simple really. Woking was a classic  "men against boys" debacle. Too many players in our team who are just brushed off the ball (edit : early days but I hope Walker, Sachdev and Hammond don't end up in this category but they are not physical types that's for sure)). I`m trying to get up to speed with players and I have tried to watch a couple closely to get to know them the past 2 games. I always say Ged Keegan was the worst midfielder I have ever seen for Latics. He was ineffective and always passing sideways and backwards. Lundstrum reminds me of him and he might even trump Ged Keegan. Who is signing such poor quality if we are supposed to want to go up quickly?

I'd take a shit Ged Keegan in today's team every day of the week🙂

You can have as many better midfield players as you want, but if the defenders just hoof it over their heads it makes no difference. Sadly and also because the game was such an awful watch, I rewound  from a hoofed clearance or two to see easy 10-15 yard passes on to the feet of a midfielder. Is that following instructions, a lack of awareness or panic?

They hoof it because when they do give it to Sheron or Lundstram they are usually facing their own goal. It then goes sideways or back to them so slowly that they are usually under pressure so have no option but to hoof it!.

Midfielders need to play on the half turn and ours just don't or can't.

  4. It's Lundstram that I'm most disappointed in.

Sheron and Big Mac we know what they give us which isn't anywhere good enough.

Lundstram was meant to be the big news midfield signing and honestly I don't think he's improved us at all.

Change of formation needed I think.

Get Dallas and Hammond or Green on and get us going forward with a bit of pace ffs

Missed a huge opportunity to cement our place in the playoff zone and gain ground on the teams we can feasibly catch. This BP hoodoo needs putting to bed as soon as possible. Woking will be fucking cock-a-hoop at taking the points while our fans are left to trudge home in a sulk, again.

Yep. Big lost opportunity to gain 3 points on both Barnet and Bromley and put them under some pressure.

And Gateshead in 8th are only 2 pts behind us with a game on hand.

Many on here are super confident of us getting on the play offs comfortably, but play like we apparently did today and we have no chance.

Anyone think he may revert to 433? He may think it a perfect opportunity to change with Hogan banned, and with the new signings we may now be equipped to do so. I think that may be his preferred formation long term. Or do we think he’ll stick to whats been working recently?

    A 433 option could be:
    Hudson

    Sadchev

    Raglan

    Hobson

    Kitching

    Sheron

    Conlon

    Lundstram

    Walker

    Dallas

    Norwood

    Like this Daniel👍

Kitchen, like Norwood, is crucial to this team. Both of which are 1 yellow away from a two game suspension ?

Wasn't aware of that. How many has Nors got?

Looking at the fixtures on paper we have cracking opportunity to pile on the points as we play teams currently in 13th or below in our next 6 games.

If he's gonna miss 2 games I'd rather him be out during this period than later on, particularly if Dallas starts ok.

Tbh a mini break may do him good.

Apparently Woking played very well at Chesterfield with many players back after injury and a couple of new signings.

Hope we don't take them lightly as when they last had a full squad they were high in the league.

Fair point. They were well fancied at the start of the season but have never got going. They are a big physical side with some decent players in a bit of a false position i think, and we need to be on it from the start.

Probably as good a performance as any though this season when we won at their place. It really should have been 4/5-0.

Comfortable 2-0 for me unless we have a head fuck day 👍

This is where I'm at on it. MM still being here is a safe bet. He's got us into the playoffs from a mid-table position from being 7 points adrift and in that time assessed who is and isn't good enough. Certainly good enough foundations for the board to approve signings taken from next season's budget.

Also even if we get into the Play offs and don't quite make it this year, the additional revenue from bigger home crowds as the end of the season gets closer and more season ticket sales with the belief we are a good bet next season, will subsidise signings this year ( with the caviat they are not shite!)

I meant to say season before last, but well done for paying attention.

However it’s time this “2H of last season” fairy tale was put to bed. You don’t get promoted based on half a season of results. Unsworth’s team produced some utterly tedious performances during that golden run, and then deteriorated at the start of this season. MM has inherited a bloated squad with a number of players who aren’t up to the job, we can agree on that. I’m confident he will sort it out, Unsworth would not have done.

    On this we do agree😁

Let's sort our home form out and solidify our position in the top 5 at least👍

He played a much weakened team and paid the price. Poor management  and he admitted as much saying he takes the blame.

Fans let down again by another poor home performance and 2 centre backs as full backs is something he surely must have known wouldn't work.

He needs stop this  centre backs obsession and play an attacking formation at home.

Look I'm in a sort of agreement with you about the team selection being too weak and the formation changes poor.

I'm just saying you DONT pick a team Saturday assuming a game on Tuesday will be postponed due to the weather forecast, which is cold but hardly arctic. Shouldn't matter who you are playing you pick a team to win the game.

If MM had read the weather forecast last week he'd have had no need to prioritise the Boreham Wood game. It's near zero chance of being played.

BP please give it a rest about the fucking weather forecast.

You can't pick a team on Saturday assuming a game on Tuesday will be called off.

    Never heard such drivel....

Perspective, BP. We are 6th in the league and have a great owner. Last season we were bottom half and had the owners from hell.

I think last season we had the same great owners as this season didn't we??....unless you know something I don't?

And for perspective 2H of last season we were the 3rd best team in the division( even with the Rhino at the helm) based on results, driven by some good home form.

MM needs to address this somehow as 1 home win 9 is utter shite, and it's probably all we deserved.

When the home form is as bad as ours I'd certainly be looking at why away teams have the edge over us, watch the visiting teams post match pressers if you doubt what I'm saying. Why would you give them any sort of edge? They should be tucked away in the top corner of the Chaddy away from everything and everyone.

Is this why we are not getting results at home....no.

However as yardog73 says it certainly won't help these teams who bring sub 200 away fans, which will be most, if we park their fans at the back of the Chaddy.

Give it a go I say.
