  1. Anyone any idea why he is not getting any game time? He's not even in the 16 some weeks.

Surely with Hogan suspended he was worth giving a couple of games if fit, but Mellon chose Big Mac.

We've conceded 9 in our last 3 so surely he gets a start at Newport??

Just seems like we are not utilising and giving what is clearly a great player at this level a fair chance to show what he can do....

  2. Let's be honest defensively we have been a shambles in Mellon's first 2 games in charge...and im not sure what has changed.

We conceded 4 goals in 7 games before he took charge and then 5 in 1 game and 15 mins!

I'd like to think he would look to shore things up again as his first priority.

4 out of the next 5 games are away games at Alty, Newport, Woking and Barnet so he needs to sort it the fuck out quickly.

  3. Anyway back on topic....🙄

We have an experienced and proven new manager in Mellon, who is better placed than anyone to get the best out of Norwood, which we havnt seen yet. I'm predicting him getting 20+ more goals from now until the end of the seson.

So with the classic new manager bounce, a sold out away following local derby this weekend and a current unbeaten in 7 run, we should piss over Rochdale on Saturday, and move into the top 7 next Tuesday night after mullering bottom of the table Fylde.

    Onwards and upwards...

    See how positive I'm being🙂!

Because unfortunately that's just the way things are run, four weeks in to a recruitment process, guys unbeaten in 6, two points a game and they are moving him out in favour of a new man.

Brave move this one when we could have just steadied the ship.

The ship is steady but who wants bloody steady!

18 months ago I would have taken steady but now I want a manager with some experience and drive who can get us out of this division.

ST in my view wasn't the right man to do this so I look forward to seeing who we appoint.

Frank Rothwell is a doer and my guess is this time round he will be having a big influence on the type of individual who gets the gig.

Btw thanks Thomo for being a great ship steadier!👍

Recruitment since the last manager arrived has been way below what is required.

And now we are seeing the results of that process.

    It's bordering on criminal.

    Absolutely right.

Probably the best barometer of where we currently are, is that we are now 1/3 way through the season and are 6 points above 2nd bottom Kidderminster and 16 points behind 2nd placed Barnet!

Promotion with this squad of players is a million miles away.

Thommo  imo is not doing too bad a job in steadying the ship and despite some pretty poor play are still 6 unbeaten.Yes indeed Unsworth should have been got rid of a long time ago  and I do feel because  of that that we may well have already blown any chance of promotion.Lets hope the next manager can make   improvements  .Still a long way to go.

Problem is this unbeaten run is against teams currently in 15th, 17th, 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd, ......and we have just drawn at home and looked absolute shite against the teams in 21st and 22nd place.

To me our lack of width is just as big a problem as the lack of creativity in the midfield.

We also seem to be dead against using the loan market to freshen things up which I just don't get. Surely with our off field progress, improvements in facilities and the boards apparent ambition,  we would be a good option to blood some up and coming stars. We should also be relatively well connected to many top tier teams.

I'm sorry but with this squad and current manager we will be back down below halfway by the end of November, unless we can bring in 2 or 3 quality loan or new signings and get a permanent manager appointed.

And next weekend is really likely to be the first time in our history (I'm guessing) that Oldham Athletic will not make it into the First Round draw of the FA Cup..Happy fucking days 😬

The first half, while not our best performance, I was starting to see the emergence of some kind of identity that Thomson keeps eluding to. It's about building from the back, driving through the lines, and attacking with pace and aggression on the break. Although, teams seem to have cottoned on to Green and Dickinson drifting inside into the pocket and the wing switching has yet to bear fruit. A lot of comments asking what Norwood actually does and I think he's was instructed to come deep and try to dictate which I just dont think is his game, he's a poacher. Thats why I think Willoughby next to Norwood would work better as Willoughby runs the channels and does the hard work. But Reid is the In-form striker and the Willoughby-Reid combo doesn't seem to click...

That second half left me lost for words last night. It was lethargic, we couldn't control the ball, not a single period of sustained possession and their number 17 looked like Jack Grealish at times- and not just because of his horrific barnet. At Wealdstone the dropping deeper and deeper was all on SAS who are constantly treading on each-others toes and cant/wont press the ball but that wasn't the case last night as we were doing that long before Lundstram made his exit and I dont know where the problem stems from. Maidenhead unlucky to be going home with just the point in the end, all to say I predicted a 4-0 win!

From being a neutral on the Thompson full time debate, im starting to err on the side of a new man now. Although, I would like to see what he has up his sleeve after an uninterrupted week on the grass with the players.

I dont think its all doom and gloom though, I think its clear this run of Tues/Sat games has caught up to us but; Lundstram was terrific and gives us something none of the other midfielders have and thats composure on the ball, Sutton looked to have bounced back from a shocker on Sat, Reid with another goal, Kitching with another assist.

All in all, hopeful for 3 points on Sat and I think the full week of training next week will give us a chance to regroup, recover and hone this emerging "identity" and eliminate the remnants of Unsworth's influence just in time for Dogdale away!

I didn't see last night so can't comment, but from what I have seen over the past few weeks, and heard from those that went last night, I'm sorry but the only identity I see, is us dropping deeper and deeper in the 2H of games inviting teams onto us.

You do know he assembled the squad...

Yarddog makes a decent point that needs to be taken into account when assessing if he's the right man or not.

ST has been in his Head of Recruitment position since November last year, and as all can see the ballance of the squad is way off and just isnt right. Not saying he made all the signing decisions but I'd imagine he made all of the recommendations to the board, on who we should bring in and many have been below par.

Not the man for me i'm affraid...

Dickenson looked sh@gged on Saturday, very poor work rate in the second half. Can see why ST would want to play him given his goal threat and all round play, guess it depends on his powers of recovery. Maybe the wiser decision to bench him given a 46 game leagues season plus cup games.

Alex Reid has to start, surely?

Hope Lundstram starts, looked really progressive and forward thinking in his cameo on Saturday but again, no need to rush him back if they think it's too soon for 90 minutes.

    Agree with all this👍
