It always amuses me when clubs say "we would like to thank" so and so. Are they saying we would like to thank them...but we are not going to?! Why not just say thank you?

Trying to tone this down a bit...
Nice weather for the time of year isn't it? Might go out for a picnic tomorrow...

Thank you Diego. They are definitely different stands, so I wasn't imagining it. I wonder why, when we won the Ford prize money, that we chose to knock down a stand that was only 10 or so years old. Admittedly, it wasn't the most attractive stand, but you would have thought that maybe the money could have been used on another part of the stadium.

Hopefully a keeper called Woods will be good between the sticks.
I'll get my coat...

Some great old footage from BP here, I’m sure there are probably one or two on here who remember (if a bit vaguely) this from the day. Look at the North Stand pre Ford Stand days.
Lovely stuff.
Were there not two north stands prior to the building of the Ford Stand? The one in the video and then an almost identical one built around 1961 or so?

I found it easy to recall once I started - my memory of that season and of most of the 70s is pretty clear as I think that was my favourite period of supporting them.... contagion......couldn't stop thinking about them and talking about them. I went to school in Manchester, was the only Latics fan in a class of primarily City fans but I was the only one who regularly attended away games. Have thought about committing my memories to print but not that many about now who would recall those days
Put me down for a first edition!

Blimey mate. How long did it take you to write that? A great read. It was all a little bit before my time, I started going in 1980. The 0-3 home defeat by Watford was on ITV's Big Match, and is on YouTube about 30 minutes in towards the end of this link below. Ignore that it says 1979, that is wrong. We always seemed to lose on TV!

Would that have been Russ Waller? - the lad from Southend originally, who lived on Shaw Road Estate and used to run the programme shop at back of Rochdale Road end (he now lives in Australia if it was).
I remember that shop fondly. I bought a bundle of Latics programmes from there on my first ever trip to BP in 1980. Still got them. Don't know the name of the guy who ran it but if it was Russ Waller he was a nice chap.

First round draw just made. Blackburn away.

If BoJo gets in and takes us out of the EU without a deal on 31 Oct, will Laurent need a work permit on 1 Nov?
Just asking!
If/when we leave the EU (deal or no deal) freedom of movement is likely to end. AL's major recruitment strategy then goes completely out of the window as none of the foreign players (or managers) he is likely to attract will be of sufficient calibre for our Home Office to grant them work permits. And he didn't even mention Brexit as a threat in his plan, not that I'm surprised.

Is the last time we appointed a manager with experience that had no proper link to the club Dave Penney in 2009, 15 managers ago?!
In fact, if my calcs and Wikipedia has it right, since Royle left in 94, the only managers we've had that fit that description are Warnock, Talbot, Ronnie Moore and Penney. 4 out of 23 managers.
+ Mick Wadsworth? Previously managed at Carlisle.

Could the mannequins play up front next season?
From what I have heard the mann-equins have been forced to train with the boy-equins until further notice.

By wendies riot do you mean the match v Sheff Wed at BP which was held up for 20 minutes following Curran's sending off? If so that was the season before, September 1980.

They should clear AL and his entourage from their boxes to make way for Sky filming.
Maybe supporters ought to protest against Sky too, they've used the main stand many times before without fans having to move. Why is it different this time?
I don't recall Sky ever using the main stand before. We haven't been on Sky since the new North Stand was built. Prior to that broadcasters would put up a camera platform on the ground where the old Lookers Stand used to be, and prior to that they would have used the Lookers Stand gantry.

Also the free programme, 'The Boundary Bulletin', probably the best in the clubs history.
Those are the favourite programmes in my collection. They are really lovely.

Interesting article on the BBC about how (and how not to) appoint a manager.
