  1. Whens the last time we won when conceeded a goal first? I know it wasnt last year..

Gotta feeling it was Blackpool at home season before last. 0-1 down and won 3-1 with Beckett hat-trick.

    Two quotes from tonight's commentators

"Crossley's come off his line for it. He'll get a nose bleed if he comes much further"

"Gregan's looking very clumsy again. That's another free kick."

  2. Kalala was injured in a challenge hence why he was subbed.

As for that great lumbering pillock that we brought down the M62, for someone with such experience, he has now gifted 2 goals in 2 games by way of the penalty spot.

It would appear he is fast becoming a liability and we are shipping goals for fun with him in the centre of our defence.

Also, prior to tonight, Accrington had scored 1 goal all season (on the opening day). 45 minutes against the Patron Saints Of Lost Causes and they double their tally!

    That explains the substitution.

I really didn't think we'd miss Will Haining with Thompson & Gregan around. How wrong can you be?

  3. On a point of accuracy - it was Nicky Henry's shot that went in off the bar, but was not given.

If that had counted who knows how it would have changed the fortunes of both clubs. I like to think Latics would have won the FA Cup and had a European adventure the following season. Oh yeh and old red nosed Taggart would have been sacked, leading to the demise of ManUre.

That decision not to recognise the goal was such a massive injustice that I cannot count that match as satisfying in any way, and it's one of the many reasons why I hate ManUre.

I stand corrected sir. It was indeed Mr Henry. If that had been given, I think we would have gone on to win it and appear in both finals. Europe was a distinct possibility and I remember Cloughie, bless him, advocating Latics and (I quote) their wonderful warm supporters going into Europe. I may have slightly misquoted him, but that was the gist of it.

Heady days, and they WILL come back.

Oh yes, and one of the many other reaons I hate Man Ure was Sparky's bloody equaliser in 1994.

    :ktf:

  4. It's got to be the littlewoods cup final against that massive club at the time Forest, what a great day!

JOE ROYLES BLUE AND WHITE ARMY!

Ah, but what about that semi-final replay the same season against Man Ure - and Stitch's belter off the bar that beat Laighton all ends up, came down behind the line and back out. Fantastic game and proud to be a Latic. Pinch me? I still am.

  5. you seemed have forgot mr bristol that this is all about opinions, the question was asked who would make way for kilkenny we all have our opinions and no one is right or wrong.

Precisely. I said that the thread had thrown up some interesting debate. Opinions are what makes this such a good board but you may have missed my point. In a lighthearted way (for a touch of humour and gentle ribbing makes it even more enjoyable imo) I was trying to illustrate that the majority of our opinions were realised with Taylor AND Liddell being involved, although not in the way that everyone had predicted.

  6. He'll be BOASTin' that he said Liddell should come on for the last half hour. :bored:

Ahem. Listened to LW commentary yesterday and thought I might be permitted a BOAST that Liddell didn't make the starting line up as predicted, but it sounded as though Taylor was pretty anonymous and Liddell made a world of difference. There have been interesting views on this thread and, depending which way you view the outcome, most were accurate...........

......... except the Mr Headbands suggestion that Mr Allott would make way. :tongue1:

  7. It has to be Liddell who drope out for me, but not because of anything other than his lack of pace. He's been great for us but he's turned 33 now and I believe that we have a much pacier line up than last season. Taylor and Davies have frightening and I can see those in midfield getting forward a hell of a sight faster than, er, who's that bloke who went to Donny. I can't go along with the "Liddell in the hole" theory either. With midfielders playing a more forward role (Shez wants an even more attacking approach - see tonight's Chron), Lidds is not the man. Don't get me wrong, he's still a great player to have around, but mainly off the bench now.

Shez will sort it, no doubt about that and we will all be behind every one of 'em, no matter who he picks. 3-0 tomorrow, Ricketts (2) and Davies.

  8. Milan city flag is basically the St George flag ... so I was probally wrong about it being directly taken from the St George fag.. but it was founded by an English man .

"The team was founded December 16, 1899 by Alfred Edwards as the Milan Cricket and Football Club. Edwards, a former British vice-consul in Milan and well-known personality of the Milanese high society, was the reclub's first elected president. Initially the team included a cricket section, managed by Edward Berra, and a football section managed by David Allison."

...umm and it seems I got a it a little wrong with Sampdoria as the flag of Genova is basically the George cross again and it was Genoa fc founded by the brits....

"The club was founded on September 7, 1893 as Genoa Cricket & Athletic Club. Since the club were set up to represent England abroad, the club's shirts were originally white, the same colour as the England football team's shirt. As it was originally set up as private club, Italians were not allowed into the team. The first field for the club was the Piazza d'Armi of the Campasso area."

Didn't realise cricket was so popular in Italy!!!!

Great research, Mark. Good stuff. Just a thought - if they included a cricket section, who the hell did they play? There must have been other teams or, if not, it's little wonder that cricket isn't associated with Italy.

  9. Agree with Butter that I think this pretty much means the end of Neil Wood.

Pecking order goes from what i've seen.

Kilkenny > JP Kalala > Allott > McDonald

Not a bad bunch of centre mid's at this level. More than necessary strength in depth for the middle.

Fantastic news about Kilkenny. Never thought we'd get him after it had dragged on this long. And isn't a midfield maestro like Shez just theman to get the best out of him.

Spot on about Wood. I would like to see midfield of Kilkenny, Kalala, Allott and Taylor with Macca / Liddell to come off the bench. Just need a quality left back (and back up) and we're gonna frighten a few teams this season.

And if this laptop freezes up again, I'm gonna frighten it!! I can see me going missing for a while soon.
