  1. Full backs are more than useful, especially our right hand side with Liddell, overlaps are needed to create the space for him to whip a cross in as obviously he doesnt have the legs to beat a man anymore.

........ and Eardley shows time after time the value of an overlapping full back. I can remember Bob Ledger doing it in the sixties before it became fashionable.

  2. Hi Mate.... rally sorry you cant make thursday... but its all getting very confusing, so thanks for saying that, and think we will meet up on thursday as planned - 7.30 at the WW...

We will absolutely make the next one when you can make it.... the week after the Swansea game hopefully! (or before... or at 6am the morning of the game for a minibus to the match????)

    We wil discuss on thursday!!!

See you then gents.... any thoughts that differ... post below....

I'll be in the Latics shirt BTW....!!!

Yours truly has been caught between PMs and this thread, so you should have all had a PM by now. Thursday it is. I've rung Mac and he wants to know if I'm wearing a flower so he'll recognise me.

  3. It may well be that the Kilkenny deal has fallen through, and shezz has had to lower his sights a bit regarding a midfielder. Shame really as Kilkenny would have been a great addition and would have given us that extra quality in midfield.Hope I am wrong about the Kilkenny deal suppose we will have to wait and see.

I don't see us getting KK, it's gone on too long now. With the season so close, I reckon Shez already has his sights on someone else and, as usual, he'll quite rightly play his cards close to his chest.

  4. Just reading t'fishal.... and for me, the language from shez is a little cloudy..

"I've got one or two other things in the pipeline...I've got another left back coming in too as I think we are short in that area and want to sort things out as soon as possible" ....

He also says he will be sitting down with Boertiens agent in the next few days...

For me, that seems to indicate there will be 2 left backs coming in, with Boertien still on the cards ... plus one other.... also - one or two other things in the pipeline indicates some totally new players/positions.... which seems to be interesting after corneys "we have a full squad" comment...

Or am I just reading too much into it as always...

I can't see Shez just having one left back, we'd struggle to cover any injury, so I reckon it could still be Boertien plus A N Other as long as Boertien proves himself. If he doesn't, our 'mystery' signing (is it Mr Wright?) had better be able to last a full season and I'm not sure he would. He's about Daz Sheridan's age isn't he?

  5. Frank Large.......had a barrell chest before weight training had been invented. Think it was beer conditioned but a good old fashioned centre forward without a doubt.

He was another one who would run through a brick wall for the cause and had a shot on him like a rocket launcher. Never seemed to stay long anywhere, but he didn't half make an impact while he had the chance. Where did all these barnstorming 'centre forwards' go?

  6. Top player in a top team. No prima donnas, just a great team of workaholics led by probably Latics' greatest unsung hero of all time. He was never going to set the world on fire and become a household name, but probably the first name on anyone's team sheet. I was close to tears when he went to Everton, despite the £1M we got for him. He was never quite the same when he came back, but a true legend. Thanks for everything you did for the club, Milly.

  7. Oldhamers are Lancastrians and everywhere in England is North of the Isle of Wight, but that doesn't make everyone automatically a Northerner. If we accept that there is no Midlands then we can devide the country up into the North and the South, but there is the Midlands.

If we accept that along the line of Hadrian's Wall is the far North, the question is where is the Southernmost part of the North? Oldham is generally described as being in the North West, but that's a misconception. Apart from the North question, it certainly isn't in the West. Blackpool, Morecambe, the Lakes and Cumbria are the North West. Humberside, I_C's Darlington, Tyneside, Teeside and Wearside are all in the North East. Oldham is a minimum of 60 miles from these places.

So it could be argued reasonably that the big chunk of England in the middle, from Burnley, Blackburn and York Southwards to Worcester, Rugby and Northampton is the Noth Midlands and South Midlands respectively.

Granted that people in some parts of the Midlands have funny accents, like the Black Country, Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool, but so do people in some 'areals of Brizzol'.

Err, yes we are sort of, well, drifting away from the thread a bit?

P.S. There's just been a severe weather warning for the Met Office's region known as the Midlands. In spite of glorious sunshine at present they say one month's rainfall is going to come down in the next 18 hours!!

Now look D_S. You're trying to baffle us with science here. It's so simple. Draw a line across England somewhere South of Birmingham, it doesn't matter where 'cos everything below that line is THE SOUTH. Now draw a line all the way round the old Lancashire border (bugger this Greater Manchester lark) and that is THE NORTH. Everything east of that line is THE LAND THE WORLD FORGOT (some people call it Yorkshire). Everyrhing north of it is, as previously stated, JOHHNY FOREIGNER COUNTRY & SCOTLAND. And yes, you're quite correct, they dooz talk a bit funny loyke in tyhe Brizzol areal. You hear it all the toyme in Asdal. But we're teaching 'em how to speak proper, like us NORTHERNERS.

Ta-ra. I'm off for me tea. Those down South think they're posh and call it dinner. Well, I had that at 1 oclock.

  8. Accepting that Oldham is in the middle of the country, hence Oldhamers are Midlanders, who are the Northerners (excluding those based in Scotland)? Inspiral Carpet and Jorvik - any others? :who:

Oldhamers are Midlanders? How dare you? I pride myself on being a Northerner. Midlanders are those folk with a dead weird accent. You know, the one where they don't talk, they sing. If you don't know the words or the tune, you're buggered. Anything North of Lancashire is not the North, its either Johnny Foreigner country or Scotland. I suppose I've now upset everyone between Birmingham and Salford and those who live in Cumbria, and any other points East. :naughty:

Err, aren't we sort of, well, drifting away from the thread a bit? Just thought I'd mention it.

  9. I don't know how long I can hold out without telling Mrs Sideburns about oafc_ok's defection to the cider men. At least the banner will soften the blow, what with her birthday coming up on Sunday. Your efforts will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in anticipation.

If all you've got the present Mrs Sideburns for her birthday is a banner, made by someone else to boot, all I can say is it's a bloody good job all this started, or the poor lady would have had nowt. Come on D_S, Latics fans are more generous than that - well, they are in Brizzol.

  10. So all guesses have dried up!

Here's the picture of the stadium again:

    http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1102/565992...979dda9.jpg?v=0

    Clue 1: It's a stadium in a European City.

Clue 2: It's not in England, France, Germany, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Scotland, Spain or Sweden.

Clue 3: It's not in Austria, Holland or Russia.

Hmm, unless you choose funny way out places for a holiday, it looks like Belgium to me. Hows about FC Bruges? Or Antwerp?

  11. Ahem......does anybody actually work during the day or am I the only bugger keeping this country on its feet...

OMG, work!! I knew there was summat I was meant to be doing. Oh aye, I'm working from home and I'm already there. Phew!!

I'll pop in later to see how many more have seen the light and defected to Brizzol.

  12. Oh dear, look what I have started now... family rifts, turf wars, Banner envy... I now expect the next home game to be like a scene from "The warriors"... Diegos - BLAST, Vs the Bristol BOAST, Vs Marks OASIS Vs Exiles (imaginary) gang of sandcastle builders.... not gonna lie to you, could get messy....

Just leave all the messy stuff to me lads. I've got a black belt in origami and doing very well in training for the 'ecky thump championships. If that fails, I'll be right behind you.

'ere, where's Bristol Blue gone? He started this. We'll have to have a word at our glorious inaugural meeting of BOAST

  13. Oops, er, sorry, I missed it. Er, I think I'm sorry I missed it. We'll have a vote on whether we want to adopt it or try and get a proper one.

(Bristolatic runs and hides in a corner wondering how he is going explain all this to his wife, who already thinks he's lost the plot.)

And, Mr Maddog, I don't cider, so there, nyerrhh.

That should be 'don't LIKE cider'. I said I'd lost the plot - never read the script, by looks of things.

  14. As drawn designed from our very OWTB "Artist" , now dont say we dont do owt for ya ........now be off with ya ^_^

  15. There's a latics fan in Bristol called Karl as well. Sorry if it's one of you lot already on here. Met him on the train to Swansea. 5 if not.

    Massive!

It ain't any of us, I don't think. Looks like we'll a full team soon, never mind 5-a-side.

We demand our banner - NOW !! or we'll get angry. You won't like us when we're angry. We turn green and burst all our buttons.

    :sick01:

  16. :mmm: right ganging up on me :nnnng:

Well we will see about that :tongue1:

This thread will self distruct in 5.............4..........3...........2..........1

Right lads, if oa exile is taking his ball home, altogether now:

    "Sing when you're winning

You only sing when you're winning." :tongue1:

Great banter, fellas - loved it. Who's up for a protest march with banners proclaimimg "We want our own banner"? :ktf:

Bristol Blue - I'll PM you soon with some details. Terrific to have you on board.

  17. Name? Rick.

    Location? Bristol

How Long Supporting the Tics? Since @1970 (37 years!)

Best away match you've been to? Probably have to be Maine Road 4 - 1 Palmer hat-trick (Swailes out!)

All Time Greatest Player? Alan Groves - Magician, legend, sadly missed.

Biggest Rivals (in your eyes)? Forest - Sorted them out twice last season. They will be there or thereabouts this season with a 5 - nil thumping to avenge.

Welcome, friend. I've always told my workmates that the Oldham cultural revolution will happen one day. This is a brilliant site and everyone is treating the way it should be. No sign of eejits that inhabit other sites. Be great to see you next week if you can make it.

  18. I like Boys in Blue.

I think we should blast this out just before kick off each game as the players have come out and are waiting for Kick off, for all to sing along too.

It's usually played on Latics World before live commentaries, so why not as the lads run out.

How about Tina Turner's "Simply The Best" or "Hi Ho Silver Lining" when we score.

Whatever we choose, get plenty of copies made, 'cos we're gonna wear 'em out in no time.
