That's the point BF and I were making - it's the options it gives us. Even if Lidds doesn't start, (and he may well, who knows?) he's available to change things about. Chrissy T can switch wings at will. Let's not also forget how Neal Eardley is improving. His overlap play is excellent and he's no numpty with crosses either. A marauding left back as well, whether it's Boertien or not, and there's your supply line with back up.

What was it Shez said before the start of last season? As I remember, his philosophy was 'you can't have too many midfielders' or along those lines. So, working on that principle, Kilkenny (who would only arrive if we can afford him - remember Mr. Corney's statements re budget?) could go into a midfield of, say, Kalala - Kilkenny - Allott - Taylor (yes, I'm happy with carrot-top on the left) with McDonald, Wood, Liddell etc to come off the bench. Lidds can also go up front if needed, Gary Mac could start in place of Allott etc etc. What possibilities. What a supply line to Ricketts/Davies/Hughes and, yes, even Wolfy. Positively mouth watering.

If we throw Crossley & Boertien into the mix, we have a team that would be afraid of no-one in this division. If Boertien doesn't make it throuh his trial, I still have no real problem with Stam or Lomax filling in until a genuine left back comes along.

Ooh, I think I've just about picked a starting line up.

Looks like Neil may be coming back on a loan or even permanent deal.

That would be a great signing. If he controls his temperament (I never saw anyone else yelling at Eyresey and chewing him off!!) but keeps the passion and doesn't get up the refs' noses, he will out-Wellens Wellens.

....... it sure was, with very little sign of grass. But it all came the same to Bert. You could stick him in the middle of a haystack with a brick wall round it and he'd still find a way of scoring.

Ye Gods, do I remember those days of torrential rain, the pitch 6" deep in mud, a ball that was as controllable as a bar of soap and getting heavier by the minute, and the half time entertainment being a brass band playing in the main stand 'cos 1) they couldn't stand up on the pitch and 2) they'd have got pneumonia.

Please keep the Bert Lister tributes coming and our thoughts must also go out to his family.

Nice touch that Stevie , hope some of the Lads can post some memories of one the Legends.

It's actually 3 in Bristol - and we all live within a couple of miles of each other. Latics fans are taking over the South West - this is just the start.

It has to be Crossley, although I still rate Pogs as one of the best in the division. If Big Les could consistently show the form he did in his first season for us, we wouldn't consider anyone else but, as we know, he's a confidence player. No matter how well he's playing, his head drops when he makes mistakes. Whilst I believe Crossley has to start as No1, his experience and coaching will bring Pogs back to his best and I wouldn't want anyone else between the sticks if Crossley is injured or rested. And am I the only one who thinks Crossley will be here longer than a year, if only in a coaching capacity?
