  1. Problem is the players know they won't get a game - if our 'best' fringe player (Gregan) can't make the team then there's not really much validity in that argument. PD appears to have set his stall out in terms of the players needed to maintain the early momentum and I can't see him changing his mind.

In days gone by, it would have been easier to assist a player in getting a new club or pay him off but today's climate has ended that.

What this situation tells us is that clubs either have to adopt the concept of a season-long contract for all players (with renewable options) or accept the consequence of being saddled with players they don't want.

They will have more chance of getting a move if they have played competative football, than sat in the reserves. Thats there agents job...... not the player.

With the amount of players without a club you would think they would want to play. Like they always say, its easier to find a job whilst you are getting paid!!!

  2. Players Reject Moves - Corney

34 professionals for a team like ourselves is far too many. Makes you wonder if players like Gregan being made available are being forced on the club because other players are refusing to leave?

If players want to fight for a place here then that's great but as Corney says at least 4 players have refused moves. A bigger effort needs to be made to move players on and fast. Perhaps paying a percentage of players wages for the rest of the season to get them out of the club if neccessary. Not ideal but there's a lot of waste as it is on the playing side.

Simple, take them out of the reserves (out of the shop window) but still make them turn up for training and club events, then fine them if they are late etc. These people are parasites.

  3. I didnt really look too much into this promotion... However BB80 has raised a valid point. Like most people I assumed that City were playing on a different day or in the evening???

NO... they play Wolves away on the same day at 3pm.

Now please tell me the clubs marketing/pr team knew this????

Anyone remotely interested in City will be either at the game, or in a pub watching it on some foreign sports channel?

    Is this another titanic moment????

  4. There is no way in the world, and I'm willing to take any bet you can think of, that Latics will get promoted next season. No chance whatsoever. You all know it. The mercenaries, sorry players, weren't good enough for various clubs last season and wont be good enough this.

Whats the point in next season? Nothing excitings gonna happen. 12th place, FA Cup second round and Coca Cola Cup (or whatever its called now cup) 2nd round.

Enjoy paying ridiculous prices to watch 3rd Division mid table football people!

Oh, and moving to within 4 miles of the worlds richest (and sadly, soon to be very successful) club would be a marvellous business decision. Of course, Latics 12,000 seater stadium would have better community facilities and more prestige for events than the City Of Manchester Stadium Complex wouldn't it. Also, I wonder who the youngsters in the area will decide to support?

WHAT A KNOB YOU ARE! = GO SHOPPING WITH THE WIFE AND LEAVE US ALL ALONE THEN

  5. Good move by Penney will either wake the lad up or he is out.

Had this argument for a while. I dont think he is a bad player. i just dont see the superstar icon he hads become. He is young and raw. but to me you cant coach attitude and backbone. I think at times he has shown neither

  6. Possibly due to the fact he was never given a run out alongside Hughes that lasted more than a few minutes. To write a player off after so few games for the side is wrong.

At Stockport he played at the front of a 4-5-1.

I've seen skill, height, power and blind alleys out of him. Playing alongside the right man could end the "blind alley" problem.

I'm not convinced by him, but I'm a long way off discarding him.

He got dry b8m fooked by shez. If Shez honestly though Having Smalley, Lewis and Wolfy was better than Davies & Ogrady then something is seriously wrong

  7. He carried on the same and scored last night. He was the only one of our front line who was able to hold the ball up and bring others in to the game.

Ogrady is a good holding striker, he is too similar to play with Abbott, but he will get games this year. We need another striker, simple. If we dont, we will struggle with goals this year

  8. all this talk of moving down to the lancaster...what about ferney field by way of a compromise?? its away from the nimby a!£$es i don't think tryin to poach city fans away from eastlands will work Why would they would you go watch dale if we put our prices up a few quid...didn't think so!!

Toni, dont u realise. Its all about time. There are loads of places, but how long will it take to get planning permission, roads, NYMByS, the nature police. The whole point with ferny fields was the traffic, hence why TTA had a clause to purchase the land if no problems came up, and guess what, there were problems. This site has obviously been earmarked by the council and will be fast tracked ready to build. Everyone including the fans, the council, TTA are fed up of hurdles, my hunch is there will be none with this site, as I would think there is a benifit to Oldham Council (AT BP) just a hunch!!! . So lets just get behind it and stop moaning! 3.7 miles - Is that too much to ask????? Its still in the Oldham Borough!!!!! Move on.

  9. I'm looking forward to another stadium plan.... it will be able to go on the shelf next to Ken Bates plans, Sport Park and the latest BP redevelopment.

Same cant do attitude, like most Oldhamers. This will go ahead, cos u know why????? We will be dead in 5 years if we dont..... Move on!!

  10. Another mind numbing thread

    The bottom line is...........

Lee Hughes will get 15 goals a season. However, evereryone saw how his form and effort dipped last season. Lee doesnt seem the sort of guy to give MORE for LESS. I would predict another on off season from Mr Hughes if he did sign, on his day awesome, not enough of them days for me. Its obvious he likes the footballer lifestyle, but Mr Hughes needs to realise that noone really wants him and his baggage. I am split on this one TBH.

Lets see what happens, but if he does come back, I would question his loyalty and reasons.

    KTF

  11. Hope this wouldn't be the case. I'd rather play Lewis ahead of Vernon.

What u on about.... Vernon not good enough, and as for Lewis, he will strugle to catch next season, because he may not be good enough either!!!! He needs a big season, and I hate to say it, but dont think he will!

  12. Do we want him back though if he was someone JR has got rid of? I thought JR came in to sort things out and put us in a better situation to move forward Getting rid of the bad eggs. Joe had plenty of praise for Gregan who many believed was disrupting things, yet got shot of Hughes almost instantly. Part of me also thinks we gave him a chance which in the end didnt seem that apprieciated, maybe someone in his position doesnt deserve another one.

My thoughts exactly. He shafted us back end of thast season with lackluster performances. What will stop him doing the same. I would only sign him based on a performance related contract

  13. I told everyone (well the moaning minnies such as oafc0000 and that) back in May that reduced budget or not, TTA would come good and help provide us with yet another squad capable of challenging for the Play-Offs. I am now beginning to think I was right with this prediction....some of the negativity on here since May has been outrageous and TTA deserve an apology from a few.

Thanks TTA for believing in this club and giving the fans some decent signings to cheer about.

Watch this now, Eards, Smalley and Taylor will all be sold off next week on the cheap !!!

I agree mate. I dont know what people really expect at times

  14. These are the FACTS

Gregans form hit rock bottom when he had all them problems!

Gregan lacks a turn of pace!

    BUT

    He wins 9/10 headers

Was no better or worse than any other player through our problems last year

He give a presence on the pitch, Strikers dont like playing against him

    He is experienced

And would probably catch most L1 and L2 starting 11's

Many L1 managers singled him out for praise

    MORE THAN HAPPY MR PENNY!!!!
