mikejh45
Noticed on Saturday that Colchester had several corners in the space of a couple of minutes and every one appeared to cause our defence problems. When, on the other hand, we got a corner whether it was taken long by Maher or Liddell or short to Jones, we dumped every one into their goalie's hands. We never, ever trouble the opposition from a corner which makes me question whether any coaching goes into this part of the game.

mikejh45
I could be wrong, but the coaching for corners could have taken place at the bar at the dogs. Pint of lager (their goalie). Pint of Guiness (Gregan) Bottle of Stella (Hughes) Etc..........!!!
edhunteruk
Its been the case all season. not really......first half of season we had taylor and whitts taking corners and not beating the first man.... then maher took over and at least he gets it into the area or to the back stick...what we dont have is players willing to throw themself at the ball, they just stand there expecting it to reach them. that said it was only a few weeks ago we scored 2 goals from set pieces delivered by maher... what we dont do,is work the situation out and use left and right footed players to suit, making inswinging or out swinging corners,we just throw them in the middle or the back with no deviations.... get jones to take a left footed outswinging corner and it doesnt go anywhere near the keepr, giving us more chance to get a head on it. I can see some of your point, Ed. But, there is still a problem, insofar that the only person who does run in is Hazell. Maybe Gregan should run in from the edge of the box instead of ineffectively standing in front of the goalkeeper. he did it once against Kettering on his debut AND scored. But all this still doesn't explain the lack of creativity from corners. Back to the drawing board.
