Diego_Sideburns
This was the date back in 1295, when King Edward I called the first elected representatives from Lancashire to Westminster to attend Parliament. This was later to be known as the Model Parliament and was seen as the beginning of democracy in Britain. Lancashire Day allows us the opportunity to declare that we are proud to be Lancastrians. The Lancashire Day proclamation will be read out today by town criers throughout the county, including from the top of Blackpool Tower and locally at: Chadderton (Town Hall Steps & other locations from 12 noon); Royton (at 11:00am on the Library steps); Shaw & Crompton (at 11:00am outside the Blue Bell Inn, Market Street); and many Lancashire towns will be holding events to mark the celebrations. The rarely wrong Chron’s picture of last year’s celebrations at Chadderton Town Hall. The Official Beer of Lancashire Day is Thwaites’ Flying Shuttle, named after the invention that changed cotton making in Lancashire from a labour intensive cottage industry to an efficient, industrial powerhouse.. OldhamSheridan
Only if you were wearing a red rose. I didn't, but can I pull it back if I switch off my heating and put on my Lancs jumper tonight (the cat won't be happy, but what the hell)? garcon
Good reminder Mr Sideburns, I had forgotten. I need to think of something to do in suitable defiance of all these Cheshire folk I'm surrounded by. I might buy some Lancashire cheese - that always narks them. You could shove a big lump of it in their cat's mouth to stop it grinning.
