If so we signed one yesterday. If he's a centreback, who is first team and who backup? Will Hazell stand for being backup? Southampton may have released him for a reason- it could be he wants silly money (if Southampton don't want to pay him then we are really going to struggle). Having looked him up on their website it seems he was signed on a 6 month contract at the start of the year from Norwich on a free and he's played a bit (but been injured as well), but the fact he's been at two clubs in our league this season and neither have wanted him is a bit suspicious for me but that could be "home-sickness" and he's a scouser of sorts. BTW- he's a right back and he doesn't appear to be that big 5ft10 12st7lbs. If we can afford him then he may be an option though- but bearing in mind Andy Holdsworth was one of our better players prior to xmas and Keiron Lee was one of our better players at the end of the season we might be looking to strengthen in other areas now Penney has gone. Always looked a decent player but he has been at Liverpool ,Rotherham, Crewe, Norwich and Southampton since 2005.
