Pubs in Manchester

Recommended Posts

I'm down on a week long course in your local big smoke and after over a decade up here have utterly no idea where to go drinking.

I will be located next to Canal Street <cough>, and am looking for a pub or twenty serving Guinness (colleague) and real ciders whilst showing Sky Sports. As I arrive on the last day of the season, somewhere where dickheads aren't prevailent may be good as well.

Good, cheap eateries wouldn't be bad to hear of either.

If you haven't already booked the train do it via PlayerShare WebShop if you can ... http://www.spendandraise.com/xtra/shop/retailers/?search=Virgin&order=alpha&page=A

Hotel booking: http://www.spendandraise.com/xtra/shop/retailers/?search=Hotels.com&order=alpha&page=H

Nothing to do with PlayerShare or Latics, but order a Bite card today and it might get to you in time to save you 20% off overpriced concessions and bars in railway stations: https://www.bitecard.co.uk/

Can't help with the pubs. Years since I drunk in Manchester. I'd strongly recommend The Little Yang Sing for eating. There will be loads of cheaper places in China Town though.

Also failing on budget but marvellous on quality is Gauchos. You'll probably need to book ahead but it's a steak eating experience to behold.

San Rocco or San Carlo ideal for Italian. Taxi to the Golden Mile in Rusholme for an Indian.

Not sure what the Wetherspoons pubs are like for food, but assuming they serve it that will do the budget job..

Anywhere in the NQ is good, I can recommend TV21 for a geat atmosphere, and the Tiki Lounge is fun plus Port Street Beer House, Bay Horse and Trof are good too. Elsewhere Corbiere's off Cross Street and The Bank can be pleasant.

Northern Quarter is probably your best bet if you want to do a bit of a crawl without walking big distances, but it can get pretty packed in a lot of places at night.

Not sure if all of these places are still going but Briton's Protection, Peveril of the Peak, Lass o Gowrie..aren't too far from where you are staying. They're quite well known real ale pubs with a lot of info on the internet about them.
