youngen
I dunno about the Bolton thing, I had an enjoyable day out in Blackpool last year even when it was called off!
Guest nonaenever
There is no way that Bratford will be relegated this season Lol - I was just about to correct you - and state they were already in our division - when the penny dropped ! peanuts
we dont get local derbys on bank holidays anymore as we have to pay for the police costs extra officers due to large crowds and potential for "disorder" all on bankholiday rate =£££££
Guest nonaenever
In fact, us, Dale and the bucket shakers are the 21st, 22nd and 23rd worst supported teams in League One - only Fleetwood are worse - which tells you a lot about the relative catchments of Intergalactic Red Scum United and Battlelstar New Money Citeh. Yes - it's a sad fact we have to live with - City and Utd on the doorstep. As an interesting comparison, 2 clubs that don't have such "magnet clubs" within striking distance, Shrewsbury and Chesterfield (both struggling at the bottom too), have home averages this season above 5,000 and 6,000 respectively - and Shrewsbury has about a third of the Oldham Borough's population - and Chesterfield about half. You also have to factor in that them two clubs have enjoyed relative success in recent years. Both been promoted twice in the past five years(?) which will obviously attract fans who might have stuck around - they're clubs who will consider this division to be closer to their idea of success than our supporters, many of which have seen us in the Premier League and competitive in the Championship. Plus both have reasonably new grounds which will have given a boost to crowds too.
Guest nonaenever
I suppose on the plus side, we still have Bradford, Sheff Utd, Bolton, Rochdale and Bury to play at home second half of season - the first 3, in particular, should bring very big followings which will "up" our average and help cash flow. AFC Wimbledon's reformation & resurgence in London (competing with many other bigger clubs) possibly shows that spending less time worrying about neighbours & just focusing on winning things can actually work. If this is our level, so be it. Do our best to encourage local kids to support the club, make prices reasonable and then try to get promoted. It's fairly simple really. Like you say, City and United exist and there's nothing we can do but get on with trying to be half decent ourselves. Support will grow if we're good at football. I know what you mean but you can't compare our catchment area to theirs...
