  1. Utter nonsense. I posted the comparative stats after they had both managed 9 league games each this season. Unsworth's were inferior to Shez's - and extrapolated over a season, Unsworth was guaranteed relegation - and Shez just below mid table from memory. Unsworth's since had shedloads of money and numerous changes he wanted - and his stats remain utterly abysmal - the man's a joke.
  2. Yep DU is sounding more bizarre/farcical/clueless every time he talks now. Yet people see something in him as a manager, which I have yet to have even have the slightest glimpse of. It's beginning to pan out like that old tale of illusion and self-deception, "The Emperor's New Clothes". Have a read.
  3. Was thinking similar. A very dangerous strategy if it continues AND we don't offload shedloads. I wonder how close Frank is to anything "football" in reality. At this rate, he's going to need a further £13million. Potential future investors in the club (which was always the goal) can't be too impressed with the showing so far - and let's be honest, it's results on the pitch that they will predominantly be interested in. A return to league football is an absolute must in terms of income generation, increased sponsorship revenue etc.
  4. Right.... "The plan fellas is for me to splash out my hard-earned lifetime millions on Latics to save them from the abyss - and then get us relegated in the first season." Quite unbelievable post in my view. This is starting to remind me of all those who were in denial when that disaster from the east took the club over and took us down first season (and I`m not meaning in denial about Frank; I mean denial about the manager). Why is it people can't see what is going on in front of their very eyes? Relegation is simply not an option (and I have said elsewhere, I don't think it will happen even under DU).
  5. I understand the point you make to BP1960,BigDog. However, one of the problems with the modern game is that the clique that is football make out as if it's so complex, with magical formations and tactics required - for which you need a coaching badge etc. We are operating at a low level and it's pretty simple really. Get the players fit, organised, motivated, playing to a plan and enjoying their football - and you won't go far wrong. The last bit often gets forgotten about - it's actually the bit that can get you that little bit of competitive advantage.
  6. It seems a long time ago now (it isn't!) that people were adamant that a new manager would get far more out of the squad as it was at the time - and hastened the departure of Sheridan. There's been several acquisitions since but we have continued to regress on the playing front. No disrespect intended, but we now appear to have a preferred centre back pairing who will be the slowest (and probably oldest) in the league - suicidal. Hardly building for the future is it? DU is not up to management and until we accept that, and do something about it, everything else is pretty irrelevant. People are in denial (again) and we might walk into an absolute disaster here if we don't act quickly.
  7. Peter Clarke as part of the club set-up - YES (and I think he should have had the manager's job after Shez) - Peter Clarke as a centre half now - NO - not got the pace or speed of turn anymore. Be interesting to see what transpires. Certainly, a natural leader but we seem to have a stack of backroom staff now don't we? I continue to be baffled.
  8. So, Pete Wild (whom most respect and trust) having seen Rooney and Connor Brown at close quarters, deems them not to be "up to standard" for Barrow. We`ve already signed Rooney (who has been dreadful so far) and now about to sign Brown apparently - what the hell is going on?!
  9. Jeez I despair. I honestly thought it was a completely different "Connor Brown" - I really did. We are seriously going for a player whom we already know is "limited" from the last time he was here? On the basis that we are now in a lower league so he will "look" better than he did? Absolutely bizarre. NOT the type of player we should be recruiting (in my humble opinion).
  10. Jeez - it was tongue-in-cheek BigDog - that's why I used an exclamation mark and said the "alien" side of me.
  11. The "human" side of me has some sympathy with him; he's wearing his heart on his sleeve and is clearly feeling the pressure already. Probably did not expect such passionate/numbers of fans at this level at the likes of Alty and Halifax. The "alien" side of me says a) he's doing his damned best to ensure the nos. of fans dwindles very quickly (!) and b) he's really showing his managerial naivety in some of his interviews. I honestly feel this "ex Everton" experiment is not going to end well - something does not seem right already.
  12. Give it a rest. Blitz didn't get us relegated twice very quickly - into non-league oblivion. That's the root cause of our current problems. You have no idea regarding the "deal" Frank struck so stop talking nonsense.
  13. Just very poor management really. If Unsworth can't learn how to handle emotions for a post match interview after being beaten by The Dog and Duck, he'd better get looking for another job quickly. Of course Vaughan has made a mistake and needs to learn. That's for inside the dressing room though - or a one to one. If Unsworth wants to criticise mistakes, he might put aside ten minutes after most matches to explain his own shortcomings first - and then another couple of hours to go through the whole side one by one. To pick out a young kid like Vaughan publicly - plain silly.
  14. I once spent a week on a "philosophy" type event (I know!) and the one thing that sticks with me was the examination around "ego" being the single biggest obstacle to progress (ego in its fullest sense). You see it in a lot of former players who think they are "billy big bollocks" having played in the unrealistic goldfish bowl that is (particularly) the Premier League. Unsworth's ego (currently manifesting itself as stubborness and playing the blame game) will be his undoing. He will not like what he is experiencing one iota at the moment, because his ego isn't being fed (ego is a very greedy feeder). He will walk soon in my opinion. When he does, get Peter Clarke in - if you are going to allow someone to "cut their teeth" at this level, I think PC would be ideal. I've said before we have gone for all our eggs in the ex Everton basket - and that let's hope the basket doesn't turn out to be a case. Watching brief.
  15. Simply shocking - it can't be denied that there are serious questions to be asked already regarding Unsworth's suitability to be a manager; simple as that. Perhaps Everton had recognised something deficient in him (from a management perspective) all along.
  16. "Personally think Porter will get injured very early on and keep the physio busy. Waste of a wage in my humble opinion - way, way too old now. Was like a carthorse last time I saw him play - Lord only knows how slow he is now?" Whoever posted this on the 8th June on the (now locked) "other thread" regarding signings and player rumours is clearly a footballing genius
  17. It's deliberate apparently, BP - to foil a second Gunpowder Plot by northern rebels to blow up the Houses of Parliament.
  18. Several on here were adamant that any half-decent manager would have THIS squad/team far better organised (and getting better results) than "the dinosaur" (as they often referred to him). Unsworth clearly hasn't achieved that and, the more you analyse the Chester performance, the more worried you get. Now, either Unsworth's utterly dire as a manager or we accept that the squad is way, way off the mark (even at this level). If it's the latter, then Frank had better make some funds available quickly, otherwise his £12million investment will plummet faster than the pound after a Kamikaze Kwarteng mini budget. Chester away, I think, is now pretty crucial for Unsworth. I say that, because, if he's incapable of getting any sort of tune out of the current squad/team, why would you risk allowing him to "splash the cash"? Management, first and foremost, is about a) getting the best out of what you have - and then b) building from there. Unsworth has to prove he's capable of a) for me. I was delighted with the takeover but I went to Maidenhead and then to the Chester game. We have not progressed one iota - in fact, I`d say we have regressed on the playing front. It's a worry.
  19. It's just basic fitness for a basic game at a very basic level Monty. It's hardly advanced "sports science" - you do realise what league we are in don't you? There's also something called "personal responsibility" - perhaps the players could just be at least half-arsed to look after their own fitness a teeny weeny little bit?
  20. My view deyres (as described several times) is that Shez had to recruit rapidly on a shoe string i.e. simply get the nos. in so we at least have a squad to compete with, under the previous regime. I don't think he was doing a terrible job with what he had available. If he was then how do you describe the job Unsworth is doing?
  21. Too many fans had turned against Shez, I know, but has Unsworth won those same fans over? One fan said to me, "It's a results business, stop living on sentiment; any half-decent manager would get a better tune out of our squad than Sheridan" in explaining why he had to go. Well, looking at Shez's last 5 games and Unsworth's first 5 :- Shez - won 2, drawn 1, lost 2 (7 points) Unsy - won 0, drawn 3, lost 2 (3 points) That's effectively giving Unsworth a "free ride" and one point today by pretending it's a league game. We should be hammering Chester; we didn't and that (already) has to be a worry. So, who is the better manager then in this results-driven business? I know it's still relatively early days but it won't be much longer before the fans "turn" and we are back to square one calling for the manager's head. We cannot continue such madness. I often ponder if, when we decided to let Shez go, we may have been better calling upon someone like Peter Clarke. I just can't imagine a "Peter Clarke" team rolling over and having their belly tickled like this one does. I think, one day, Peter Clarke will make a very good manager. He really is a natural born leader - might it have been a great opportunity for him to have "cut his teeth" with us at this level? At present, most of our eggs seem to be being placed in the ex-Everton basket. Let's hope and pray that the basket doesn't turn into a case anytime soon!
  22. Yes - that was the night match where some Stoke thugs badly beat up a clearly disabled Latics fan - hated the fuckers ever since - scum fans.
