  1. Exactly! It's why when we do have a player with a bit of flair we love them and they become a fan favourite. Yes, we'd all love to play every team off the park, but we really don't have the players like that. I have been regularly watching/supporting since 01/02 (for my sins), and in that time I can't say we were ever the best team in the league, so where is this demand for total football coming from? Just get us out of this godforsaken league, kicking and screaming for all I care. Players that have stood out for me over the years and made me want to watch the game were, Eyresie and his magical left foot. Shez on one leg. Kilkenny on loan. Wellens in midfield. Chris Taylor on the wing. Dale Stephens pinging passes. Jose Baxter and his flair etc.. (obviously plenty more in that period, these are just some off the top of my head). These individuals made the shit we were watching more bearable. It's the same for me now. The priority, win and get out of the league. Enjoy the little moments in games where a player does something nice and just hope next season we play better!
  2. Just reading through these replies… Think people need a to realise this midfield is dog turd and has been since we’ve been in this league. Not sure Mellon can do much more other than grind out results with these players. We aren’t suddenly going to turn into a prime passing team. I also can’t see us overhauling the midfield mid-season, so until we do, then we’ll just have to enjoy the wins and not the performance. Pretty remarkable the results we are getting at the moment with these cloggers, so let’s just enjoy our march to the playoffs. (I also expect a couple of dreadful losses here or there, but they are usually followed up by a win).
  3. I fear we will be stuck with this squad for the rest of the season. Mellon has been here long enough to be able to bring some of his own in and here we are. Can‘t see any league clubs lining up to take any players off our hands, so not sure January coming round will make much of a difference. I guess Freeman‘s contract will be up soon so we can use that money elsewhere. Maybe some more loan options will be available. I am praying we bring in a bloody RB/RWB soon.
  4. He did look far better pushed up. If he can maintain his scoring touch, he will clearly be an asset to us. That second half was exactly what I wanted to see from him. Let's see if we encourage more of the same at home to Gateshead. It will be a different challenge, and I hope we don't revert to sitting back.
  5. Midfield and right back are the main points of issue in my opinion. Goalkeeper is fine. Hasn‘t the main problem been trying to break teams down at home? When we actually have to play through them we can‘t. This isn‘t a pointless criticism it‘s just what has been happening. Anyway, hope Sheron has a blinder today.
  6. This. Plenty of players can do this. Sheron's contributions to breaking up play get way overblown because he makes a few sliding tackles here and there and runs around a bit. As long as he is starting in our midfield, we will not get promoted. He'd be ok as a backup, that's it.
  7. Which promotion side has he played in? In the next game, just watch how many times he passes sideways or backwards. How many times he stops our attacking play from developing. He sits too deep, can‘t take the ball on the turn, and can‘t pick a forward pass. Not a very good midfielder.
  8. Sheron is a terrible footballer and the fact our midfield has not dominated once in over a year and a half he has been playing for us says it all. He can run about all he wants, it's a low bar when that's the standard we strive for. Even if he is on the list, could be difficult to offload him since we gave him an extra year's contract.
  9. It is what it is. We can do well on the break, but can’t create enough chances when we are meant to be favourites. No killer ball. The quality of crossing is so bad at times. Even so, Willoughby put a couple of nice balls in a no one was there to meet them. We were on top at points, but we really do not have the quality to open a team up.
  10. What a great performance. Norwood and Fondop working very well together. (Can’t believe we had people questioning Norwood in the other thread, he’s clearly a class above). Thought Mellon’s tactical switch bringing Hogan on was excellent and nullified Barnet’s threat and allowed us to counter perfectly. Things are looking up. Hope Norwood is ok.
  11. It was clearly better, but still short of where it should be. Thought the passing was more positive, if not a bit wayward at times. Unfortunately, Sheron will walk straight back in to the side.
  12. Why? Not sure he bring anything extra tbh. We are creating enough.
  13. Does he get paid to do it? He is so bad, I‘m not sure I‘d even let him pay to do it!
  14. Norwood is not the issue. He looks frustrated. Probably due to the fact the midfielders stay closer to our defenders than him and are scared to cross half way.
  15. I agree, surprised we have not tried it since.
  16. At the end of the day any team consistently starting Sutton, Sheron, and Green (sprinkled in with a bit of Shelton here and there) in their XI will never win promotion. This result was bad, but with these kind of players a performance like this is always on the cards. Let‘s hope we can go on another mini unbeaten run now.
  17. Neither does Sheron, to be fair. I‘m guessing you could watch him for 90 mins and count the number of forward passes he makes on one hand.
