  1. Oldham's population isn't 220k....it's just over 100k....the population of the entire Borough is said to be around 220k but that's including areas like Failsworth, South Chadd and Saddleworth where a lot of people don't identify with Oldham or it's football team.

OK, Southampton is twice the size of Oldham. Yet they've sold 4 times the number of season tickets.

  2. I'm a student and have bought a season ticket...

It saddens me that in a town of what, 200,000? people...a pathetic 2,500-3,000 season tickets are bought for the towns club.

Sure they're not cheap for what you get...but your not going to get anything if people aren't going, because there won't be a club!

    ARGH! :ranting:

Southamptons population is around 220,000 and they have sold 9,700 season tickets. An increase on the number sold last season.

  3. I really think a 12000 seater stadium is too small. If there was a plan to extend to 20000 if necessary it would be OK. A championship club cannot survive on gates of a maximum of 12000. The teams bringing a large following would not get the tickets they wanted, which brings problems with fans trying to get into home areas, and a loss of much needed income. What happens when we draw Man U or Man C. in the cup. Do we give them the whole stadium?

  4. Nothing can beat the Three Amigos...oh wait the Four Amigos.. Spanish Inquisition!!!!!

Welcome on board now get yer wallet out.

What does Danny gazal do these days? We never hear his name mentioned, and he never seems to come over to watch the games. I wonder if he is a sleeping director.

  5. Good player on his day but it seems a little odd to turn down Leeds for a move to Cleethorpes!!!

He probably realises that he may be used as backup at Leeds, but would be guaranteed 1st tema football at Grimsby. But, did he turn Leeds down, or was there some other problem and Leeds turned him down?

  6. Why groundshare until a new stadium is built? We can continue to play at BP until the new stadium is ready, unless cash is required as the stadium is being built. I would be in favour of a new stadium, I never liked the plans for BP they seem like a hotel and offices with a football stadium in the middle, rather than the stadium being the focal point with a hotel and offices near by. As has been mentioned before BP is nearly half way between Oldham and Rochdale, but Rochdale fans wouldn't accept it and I can't blame them.

  7. Disappointed, not gutted.

    Strikers come and go.

Always have done, always will do.

Not many score 20 goals a season though, and that's what we want. Hughes and Abbot would have been a real handful in this league. Obviously the club were not willing to repeat the offer made to him in January, which I bet he's now cursing the fact that he didn't sign.

  8. According to the rarely wrong, Eardley (and possibly Jacobson) will miss three early season games due to Wales call up - see linky thingy

    http://www.oldham-chronicle.co.uk/news-fea...ing-for-eardley

So I say get a third one in and the games will be postponed

As Jacobson is now 22 he won't be called up for the under 21 side, and he's probably only going to get called up for the national side if they have lots of injuries. Then again if he's playing well I guess he maybe.

  9. It's been mentioned that there's a good chance that Micah Richards could move to Arsenal in a part exchange deal for Kolo Toure. If this was to happen what would the implications be with regards to our sell on clause with the player?

He's also been linked with a swap for Lescott at Everton, who is supposedly valued at £12m, but City could say Richards + say £4m, but no-one would really know the true value of the deal. A swap like this is City trying to pay us as little as possible to us.

  10. Very very interesting....ya see, I would find it very very difficult to get my head up if the person who's fault it was for the goal turned and blamed and berated me...as Gregans often did to other players throughout his Latics career for goals he was at fault for. At the end of the 2006/7 season, he constantly barraged Pogs and Haining for stuff that wasn't their fault and has done it many times since with other partners. All very easy for Greegs to strut off, puffing out his shoulders while his fellow centre-back has been left bemused and pissed off by it. Just this last season, I was pointing out on here several times he'd be at fault and he'd snap at Hazell which led to them barely even acknowledging one another during the 90mins. El Captino? Not for me...and no surprise Stam and Hazell looked decent together when they got a rare appearance together.

Thast's why I think it was a bit harsh to let Stam go. He was worth another season IMO.

  11. no to haining, never go back (people argue) and he wasnt good enough to be in a promotion team in the first place

as for rubes, i have a funny feeling we will find out how good he is next season now greegs has gone who i think looked after him alot. (he bailed greegs awell)

i hope we have 2 new starters at centre half next season because rubes is not the man for me, he loves here.....so what

he has pace and wins a few headers but he is not strong enough mentaly, he is ok but is ok enough for us to step up..in this league

haninig and rubes are very sinilar, neither are the answer though imo

Rubes and Stam had a good partnership when Gregan was injured season before last.

  12. Our time will come, but we need to get rid of the 'now, now, yesterday' culture amongst many of our younger fans. The success we achieved in the late 80s/early 90s had been built on the momentum of a settled manager and a team that evolved slowly from the back end of the 84/85 season - many of that team were sold on for decent money and replaced with our youngsters and youngsters/seasoned pros from bigger clubs and allowed to gel into a team that just clicked. It didn't happen overnight it took time and there were many dark days and crap finishes in the league. The difference then was the crowd in the main supportive of players and manager and when success did come we felt we were all in it together. When we were battling relegation on 92/93 it was us against the world and we came out on top. The moaning began to creep in the year after and has steadily got worse. It's time we regained our perspective and cheered the lads on no matter what, no matter who's in charge and no matter who wears the shirt.

The other differences were no transfer windows or Bosman rulings. It can't be done that way now.

  13. Think you are all being a bit harsh. Lets just see what happens. If he isn't good enough then he will be on his way.

We already know he's not good enough. It's far to easy for defenders to push him off the ball. Ifh hasn't made it at 23 he never will. What Joe has seen him I don't know. I think we should have let him go freeing up 3 months wages, which in the end could make all the difference in getting a new signing.

  14. The worry for me is that the trend in his management statistics is downward - not the appointment that excites me but as it is a done deal I will be 100% behind the man.

Just wonder what this means for Dux/Tommy etc.

Remember that he has been working under administration for a while. The players must be worried about their futures and will not be 100% concentrated on their football. If the club hadn't gone into administration maybe they would have got automatic promotion, or certainly the playoffs.

  15. Cheers. All I know is I thought Donny looked a decent side when I saw them play us a few years back, especially at their (old) place. Time will tell.

Bums on seats will probably depend on what the teamsheet looks like in August and that's some time away.

TTA baffle me quite often mate!

Hope you see reasons to be optimistic come the kick off for next season.

TTA have checked him out thoroughly and he has a better record than Gannon and is more experienced. It's the owners money at stake not ours
