  1. It can be a problem with loans - more short term to be renewed types, where the player is expected to settle in to the team straight away. Settling into a team takes at least two things on the pitch - the loanee understanding how the players around him play and are most likely to feed the ball to him and vice versa, where it is his strengths lie and how the players around him anticipating his movement etc. To me it sounds like (and I can't judge first hand (exile)) on his performances he should stay, even if he hasn't banged in the goals because these will come when there is a better understanding between the players.

I don't tink there is a problem with him settling in. When Hazel was being interviewed he was messing around off camera trying to put him off. Eardley also mentioned how well he played on Saturday and only briefly mentioned Hughes. I think therefore from these two interviewa that Byfield is already a popular lad in the dressing room.

  2. Its all very well saying drop the prices but would the extra people coming make up for the loss of revenue coming in i.e. if we charge £20 and only get 5000 in is dropping the price to a tenner going to bring in 10000.

TTA have to charge the price thats going to bring in the maximum amount of revenue if that means charging extra and a few hundred not going then thats what they will charge Its all about how much money they will make. More revenue= better players = better football= a more attractive product= better attendences = more revenue and the cycle continues. If dropping the price by a fiver meant we get another 4000 coming every week garuanteed I'd be all for it however I don't think it would.

Exactly. At £20 per game we are losing money and need 8000 to break even. Should the price therefore go up so that the break even price is at 5000?

  3. If management know there is substance to the rumours and that the players concerned are likely ( and that should be sufficient to trigger a reaction ) to go in the window, then any competent manager would already have replacement targets lined up. Shez, of course, won't, history tells you that.

How do we know that Shez hasn't got plans if he loses any of these players? He's not likely to broadcast the fact is he. He has to behave to the fans that he is not going to lose anyone, therefore he doesn't need replacements. Byfield may be one of them.

  4. (Taken from a Doncaster forum)

He said on an interview on Doncaster’s local radio, that he doesn't fit into the Doncaster squad, and admits that he found Sean O Driscoll’s tactics difficult to embrace, going against his natural instincts and his years of playing.

The reporter was also of the view that it's highly unlikely that Byfield will return to the Keepmoat.

Who thinks Byfield will be part of a player + cash offer for Taylor in Jan?

Kalala, Thompson and Davies leave, and we can afford his wages. Would Donny want a fee for someone they want to unload?

it might be more encouraging for fans

Buses to all parts of Oldham used to drop supporters off at the ground and pick them up again after the match. That's when the buses were controlled by Oldham Council. The number of people using them would have more than paid for them. They wouldn't be assumed profitable by Firstbus, so I guess the club would have to pay these days. A couple of buses to the town centre should be profitable judging by the number of fans who get on the 409 after the match. But it depends how much a bus company wouild want to hire them.

  6. I'd like to see the team that ended on Sat, start this Sat...which includes no Gregan who can warm the bench for now. That means a 4-5-1 which is like a 4-3-3 when we attack as Taylor and Smalley support Lewis. That means no Hughes I suppose...hadn't thought of that...probably see Hughes in for Lewis there. Shame for the lad.

4-5-1 or 4-3-3 both rubbish systems IMO. Always one person up on their own the two wide players are no use with no-one to cross to. 3-5-2 is much better.

  7. It depresses me greatly that the only player to bring in is Stam.

Stam isn't good enough at ALL so we are stuck with what we have at the back and have no real options especially as Thompson has gone on Loan its like picking the best from a bad bunch I am far from convinced with Byrne also.

Stam was good enough last season. We looked very solid when he stayed fit. Unfortunately he will need match practice to get him up to speed.

  8. Its the FA cup 1st round draw on saturday. The league is number one priority, but the FA cup is special, as proven last year and for the money I'd like us to get to at least round 3 to face a premiership team. Along with the league clubs. Here's the final qualifying round fixtures. A home fixture for me. Vs AFC Wimbledon or an away day at Curzon Ashton.

If we draw one of these clubs, or a League 2 side I hope Shez doesn't decide to rest anyone. We need to play any team at full strength.

  9. this lad is pure quality. i hoped we can make a loan deal to last till end of season.

If we get promoted, we may be in a position to sign him permanently if he can be persuaded to leave Wolves.

Shez says that he has been watching this lad for years, I wonder why he hasn't tried to sign him before. We have needed a left back for two years.

  10. Jones himself said that Mick McCarthy seems him more as a winger than a full back and Jones' comments seemed to hint that he sees himself that way as well. I have to say I agree. Whilst I've no worries at all about his defending which has been very good in the two games he played so far, it's his attacking play that has stood out. He can certainly beat a man and his crossing is excellent

So, with Gregan available again next week I'd be quite tempted move Byrne to left back, which is also his preferred position, push Jones forward on to the wing and move Taylor to the right, also his preferred position.

I can completely understand why a lot of people would be reluctant to do that because of the way Jones and Taylor linked up today, they combined to make us a massive attacking threat down that flank and Taylor has been in great form all season on the left so I can see the merit in the if it ain't broke don't fix it approach.

But rather than concentrate it down one flank I just think we would benefit more from having the threat of a winger that can go past people on both sides of the pitch. If I was a Latics centre forward weighing up that prospect I'd be licking my lips considerably more if I thought I was going to have a player like that on both sides of the pitch than I would if it was all coming down one side and one of them was having to play primarily as a defender. Similarly if I was an opposition centre back I know which one I'd be more uncomfortable defending against.

Not only would that team involve getting 3 players retsored to their favourite and arguably best positions but it would also give the side more balance with 2 left footers playing on the left, it must be years since we fielded a team about which that was true.

I'm not having a go at Liddell, who would obviously be the one to make way in that set-up. I don't think Lidds has done too badly, but that's the beauty of having a strong squad, competiton for places, and if picking your best team means having to leave out somebody who isn't playing particularly badly then that's usually a sign that you're doing well.

I don't think Shez will do it though, I think we'll just see Gregan and Eardley for Byrne and Lomax next Saturday to be honest and by no means is that a poor team, but it's good to know that the arrival of Jones has given us another option if we need to shake things up.

Not a bad idea imo. Leicester have obviously watched us. and it would certainly throw their plans out of the window. They may have two good wingers, but if we can attack them down the flanks the threat from them will be reduced. On the other hand Byrne may not be good enough at left back. Lomax is quicker, but not great at defending.

  11. The police have a MASSIVE say over who gets what tickets, when games get played, and they could certainly use their influence to close a stand or a ground down if they felt fan behaviour was unacceptable.

Yes they do, but who will get the blame for Friday? I'm in no doubt that it will be Stockport for not stopping away fans getting into home areas, not the police who are always not guilty.

  12. straight in there saying only 7500 on saturday, must be getting some gip. praises fans but says true test will be hereford, hope hes not aiming too high, remember its a sunday game. he hit the bar seven out of eight times lol got to love that comment sounds like something i would say. think he should have been pressed more re stockport allocation, he always says what he thinks probably give stockport some stick.

Unfortunately I think we'll be back to 5500 against Hereford. They will only bring 2/300, and after Sat. the floaters won't bother again until Leicester.

  13. I agree. Davies in for Lewis.

Give Stam a chance before shipping him out.

Agree. I'm surprised that Davies wasn't in the starting line up on Saturday after his hat trick in the reserves. I was even more surprised when Shez brought O'Grady on instead of Davies. O'Gradys ball control is poor, but he does get stuck in, whereas Davies would have brought on much needed pace.

  14. So now that the NSM's stand has come down and all the sports hall at the back of the Chaddy is demolished. Well, what happens now?

The so called housing experts expect house prices to continue falling until 2010/11 The building companies which are left then, may decide to start buying land again, but this will only be costing them around 50% of what it would have cost them last summer. How long it will take to get to the levels needed to build the new stand is anyones guess. At the same time construction costs are rising, therefore the gap is getting bigger between the sale price of the land and constructing a new stand. I would think TTA may have to find another solution, if the stand is to be built in the next 10 years. Hopefully TTA will not be hit too hard by the recession, and can continue to fund us.

  15. Following the post about Hudds only selling 650 tickets upto yesterday, should the Club not consider giving them the small section? History shows they havent brought 1500 for a league game to BP for the last 3 seasons . With the start they have had, is this season going to be any different. The RRE has been buzzing, and would hate to see that spoiled due to the fickle yorkies. Does anyone know if the club is considering this.

    KEEP THE FAITH

Unfortunately I guess that the seats have been allocated, and the turnstiles which they are to use will be on the ticket. Changing now will cause confusion, and a possibility of fans being in the wrong section. The police will never allow it to be changed now.

  16. This season, since we created a new home end next to the away fans, the atmosphere in that stand has been superb.

The stand is split two thirds/one third, and you'll be getting the bigger section. One of THE best views in the division, and I'm sure our fans and players alike will raise themselves for the visit of this season's "big boys" (Or should I say "prize scalps"...)

You never know, one of us may still be unbeaten then...

    They've already lost.

  17. I never thought JP was a bad player he just never seemed to settle into the team and after a while he was frozen out and was never given another chance. I think he'll be a good player when he settles down at a club that has a team he can gell into. good luck to him.

I think he's a decent player, but like Maher this season he has to be better than Allot to get into the team. That's not going to happen for either of them unless Allot gets a long term injury (fingers crossed).
