  1. I was there too, although at the opposite end. Just watched on Latics player. None of the news media after the game knew what the penalty was given for either.
  2. In the box yes, but Black just swings his leg to clear the ball. Not a penalty in my eyes.
  3. I was down that end for the second half and the Brentford fans weren't too happy about the penalty (correct decision from the ref) or the fact he went over shortly after holding his face claiming the Brentford player had caught him. (Holdsworth was on the side telling Taylor to calm down) Some of the abuse from the Brentford fans was OTT especially as the subs were warming up, Kelly and Brooke were the main targets (who just laughed it off) but straingly they didn't say anything to the 6' Jean Francios Christophe.
  4. didn't realise I had put this in the OASIS forum (don't post much) Managed to catch it. It left at 8 this morning
  5. Does anyone know what time the supporters coach leaves BP for brentford? Thanks, in advance.
  6. - Cities that get split into quarters to make then sound trendy.
  7. We can jump for joy whenever we want! If I'm watching a game that doesn't involve Latics I can choose to support the team of my choice, be that because i have a bit of money on the result or I prefere one team over the other, but it's always Latics first.
  8. Until TV replays show that the official behind the goal has got it wrong, (they will eventually they are human) and we are back to square one.
  9. One each side if as mentioned "but what about an official next to each goal?" With 4 linesmen I can see problems with split decisions i.e. offsides, one flags the other doesn't. 4 linesmen is still not going to guarantee 100% accuracy regarding has it crossed the line or not. Why replace a flawed process with another potentially flawed process that is more complicated. If it’s not 100% it’s no better than what we already have.
  10. Wouldn't you need one on each side of the goal. Then you have to decide who gives the decisions, imagine one linesman flags for a free kick outside the box as they see the incident, the other signals for a penalty, the ref is unsure! Which official does the ref go with? In my opinion technology should only be used for decisions that are not open to interpretation i.e. has the ball crossed the line. This should only be used once it is 100% accurate. The addition of more officials will only make things more confusing.
  11. But it is a goal if it crosses the line! The fact that you can't see if it has crossed or not is not the point.
  12. Two extra assistants are still not going to work 100%. What happens when the view of the ball is obstructed by the players etc? Someone has already said the incident at the weekend should have been seen by at least one of the officials but what happens when it's not so blindingly obvious.
  13. It's alright talking about Goal Line Technology as a catch all phrase but only when they have something that is 100% foolproof should it be brought in. So cameras etc are a not going to work. It won't work it if means stop starting the game, so no Hawkeye. It needs to be instantaneous with just a beep in the refs hear.
  14. Went to Newcastle in the early eighties I must have been around 12 -13, with two of my cousins of similar age who had relatives living in Chester Le Street. Stayed over for the weekend and made our way to the ground on the Metro. Latics had been given part of one end behind the goal (current Sir John Hall Stand) split like Boundary Park Rochdale road end. Unfortunately not realising away fans had to pay one fixed price we were short of money and so had to go through the home turnstiles as juniors in the hope we would be allowed in with the Latics fans once inside. This was the time of the full fencing at grounds with terracing and there was no chance of us getting in the correct section. Had to spend the whole game with our scarves tucked inside our coats while we were pinned against the fence nearest the Latics fans absolutely petrified, I even had a velvet Latics bowler hat (anyone remember those) which I had to crumple up and shove in my pocket, it was never the same again. To top it all Latics lost.
  15. I was speaking to one of the stewards before the game. He said that the club had been targeted again by thieves and more cables had been stolen from BP. They had to do a quick repair job.
