1. I'm positive we will finish just above the bottom 3!

Brilliant! Have you ever thought of seeing if the Samaritans need a helping hand?

Does Matts Great Great Grandad hanker for the good times of 1914? In fact anything less than second in the top flight is a failure as that is what we acheived 97 years ago. That Joe Royle, what a load of rubbish - he never acheived that!

I also understand that Oldham isn't the largest centre for cotton spinning in the world anymore , just when will the good time return?

  2. I am just at a loss as to how we can start jumping to the conclusions which we are doing so soon.

We have played a whole 2 games!! One against Sheff Utd where we more than matched them in the first half and heads dropped after an early silyy goal and a second game finishing on a par after 120 mins with a team that we should be there or thereabouts with.

This is a new season and a different team with different personnel. Lets see where we are when we have played 5 games in the league eh. The comments at the moment are ridiculous. I could have swore Matt Smith hit the cross bar twice on Tuesday. Fair enough you get nothing for that in a game but I am sure this lad will start to score goals and become a real handful.

Wasn't Stephens criticised last season by many for passing sideways? I'm sure he was. As for goals, lack of them has been pretty much endemnic since our Premiership days with a few players managing to pop more than average away (McCarthy, Porter, Beckett, Hughes) but not exactly something whoch has happened to us recently.

So far I have seen nothing to suggest that we will struggle to hit a midtable position and improve over last season. Some people really need to get a grip!

  3.
That's what a Club Captain is!

I think you have missed the point Sly is making here. Furman isn't a captain in the Gregan mould where he would organise the troops from the back, being vocal and dishing out the odd bollocking whereas Furman is a roll the sleeves up, get stuck in and come on team follow me in doing this captain.

I see Diamond being very similar to Gregan in this respect. I think we all know what a club captain is.... now where is that face palm???

  4. Tonks was a good servant but no more effective than Smith will be. it is all about thast elusive 20 goal a season man!

To be honest folks I think the front line is pretty much sorted now with Reid, Parker and Smith. Unless the addition is someone with guaranteed goalscoring credentials then I wouldn't bother.

We need bolstering down the left hand side ideally. Someone like Aidy White who can fill both roles

  5.
Personally I think Diamond would make a better captain and let Furman get on with his job, however taking if off him now may be counter productive so we will have to see how he handles it in the next month or so.
Definately, Diamond has shown himself to be a real leader and would be my natural choice however it had already been handed to Dean. The communication was all over the place when Zander went off. I would pick an opportunity such as an injury/suspension to hand it over or it may even have to wait until next season (providing we are able to extend his deal) Let Furman concentrate on buzzing around and let Diamond instruct from the back

  6. Gone for Reid for us. Lee didn't put a foot wrong and was what you have come to expect from the consistency this lad has brought to his game.

Agree with the sentiments about Zoko, a right handful but special mention to their left back Roberts. One of the toughest competitors I have seen for a long time. Hard but fair and a few Latics players thought twice about going in for a challenge with him

  7. Yep, some people going way over the top wth the abuse he is getting. Was all over the pitch last night, out wide putting in crosses, tracking back and closing down. Mom for me. Screaming for parker to come on when the midfield arent in the game wont solve anything. We lost our shape and organisation 2nd half and carlisle gave us the runaround

  8. Is he meant to finish the deliveries now too?

He did ok for his first game, yes his deliveries were inconsistent but he won a few headers and looked to play it simple. Nobody has mentioned the ball he hit out to the right wing first half. He will improve and looks to be a better prospect than lowe or mantom were. I remember that a certain dean furman didn't exactly excell at first. He will get better with games and his 1st match was against one of the stronger sides in the division. Even dale stephens had his moments when he couldn't get the ball past the 1st man on corners!

If we resolve this matter with the spanish lad then he will be back up.

  9. With the Blackpool and Burnley games coming up I see nothing happening before those are concluded.

I cant see the marquee signing coming through, not on a permanant basis anyway, a trialist and a loanee or two should complete our squad.

Midfield worries me. The best performances came when we had lewi and Jones out wide and obviuosly Stephens has gone. I like Morais but we don't have the stability we did 1st half of last season. Furman needs a partner sharpish!

  10. Auschwitz is a definate, it is about an hour and a half away. It is the scale that really hits you with it, a very solemn and sombre place.

Watch out for pickpockets. I have travelled to a lot of cities and I am usually on my guard but managed to be without phone and wallet after about 2 hours. Wavel Castle is good for a look round. Try the old ghetto for bars. It was where the Jewish population were incarcerated during the second world war. Now becoming trendy with some different drinking establishments. The football grounds are within walking distance and have recently undergone an upgrade for the Euros so worth a wander.

The large square is apparently one of the biggest in Europe. Polish women are very hot! Old town is quaint. Cherry rum is a speciality drink and you can get this after a meal. I had a potato cheese and onion dish which was fantastic, i can't remember what it was called but the majority of food is like this.

    Enjoy!

  11. We'd be foolish not to give him a chance seeing as we don't exactly have an embarrasment of riches in the striking stakes.

as has been said before though he needs to put us first and Norn Ireland second. He needs a run also. Lets see what he can do if he remains injury free pre season unlike last year. He started to look more effective towards the end of the season and his experience and seniority is something that this squad needs.

As long as he puts a shift in we can start to put last seasons huge disapointment behind us.
