  1. Cheers. I cannot recall ever seeing said articles, so thanks for clarification.

Only thing I can recall is the aggrow ith the car. but of course we donlt know the ins and outs.

The actual quote was ' Corney confirmed that he has been in contact with the former QPR manager.

‘Iain and I are good friends and we speak on a regular basis, but the club has time to make the right appointment,’ added Corney.

  2. What we don't know is how the Dowie/Corney relationship was.

We know how it ended, but they may have met a lot or practically not at all.

According to various news articles, SC has gone on record as saying that him and Dowie are friends and speak, so not sure all the cloud that ID left under was any near as bad as we thought or at least the relationship has improved since then.

  3. Has to be Dowie.

Much as Scholes could bring something special to our midfield as a player / manager we need experience

and Dowie can shake up the players to be what we all know they are capable of.

Not sure if anybody can get the stats but an interesting one would be:

Goals conceded / scored in last 10 mins of a game this season

Goals conceded / scored in last 10 minutes under Dowie last time around

    KTF

Another interesting one would be able many winning goals have we scored in the last 10 minutes during Dickov's reign and how many we scored in Dowie's?

  4. An interesting idea that the team has let down the manager. A wonderful excuse, they let me down, they didn't do what I told them - load of bollocks there is only one person responsible and he has 'stepped aside'.

The players tried to do what they were told and, surely everyone here agrees, they were told to do the wrong things and that is why their performance as a team has fallen short. Clearly the mindset was based on trying to keep a clean sheet. We collectively passed back before going forward. They collectively hit the ball long game after game and were not told to stop it.

The team has shown what it can do when they go forward and pass the ball which is even more effective with Smith giving a long ball option. This squad is good enough to be ten places higher up the table so don't go on moaning about poor performances under a poor manager. That man made the performances poor. That coaching team could make any player worse just look at what happened to Kuqi.

A realistic target for the new manager would be to finish 15th or above not simply avoid relegation. Just need to find someone who can motivate and organise. The players are good enough no excuses for the new man.

I think the Southampton and Peterborough thrashings changed Dickov's entire philosophy going forward. Very rarely did the shackles ever come off after that.........and strangely when they did we started getting results again!

  5. I'd argue Dickov let some of them down massively as well, especially the younger players who very rarely got a chance. Winchester was outstanding v Liverpool but never got given a run, Matt Smith was improving given a decent run (albeit this was enforced when Derbyshire went and had he stayed longer I doubt Smith would have played), Dan Taylor has looked fairly sharp when he's come on but, again not given a chance, I have reservations about Tarky but he's had no real chance this season, Mellor, FFS we turned down 300k from Fulham (allegedly) so he could sit on the bench?! The "undroppables" have played their part in Dickov's demise no doubt as they've simply not performed for him but I don't think we should be laying the blame squarely at the players door. As has been said before, he signed them, he trains them, he "motivates" them and quite a few have gone backwards in their progression for me. Personally, talent wise I'd say Furman, Wesolowski and Baxter as a 3 centre mids, you won't find many teams in this league with a better 3 options yet the first two have stagnated. I hope the new gaffer puts a bit of oomph into them and gets them onside. We've seen what happens if they don't turn out for you and it spells relegation

Yes but there has also been those saying that Winchester and Taylor are too lightweight, Tarky is a liability, Mellor is too slow to be a full back, Smith wouldnt make it as a Sunday league footballer etc etc. Dickov's poor late season runs in the last two years meant that this season he didnt have the breathing space to experiment with youth and therefore relied on his main core of players to start getting results but they werent/arent, for whatever reason, interested in playing for him. Dickov's tactics howver did him no favours and in so many games this season we could all see where we were being exposed but nothing ever changed.

  6. This. Furman is at his best when he is breaking up play and keeping it simple. However he ruins these positives by winning the ball and then losing it again with abysmal passing ability.Taking to long to get the ball out of his feet, trying to pass further than 5 yards.

Keep it simple Dean and you are an assett. Anything else and he becomes a liabilty. Unfortunatly i think he thinks he is better than he is and he is the result of his inconsistency

He's never struck me as a natural leader on the pitch either. Not the kind of captain who will grab the game by the scuff of the neck (ala Beckham v Greece) or leading by example and battling for everything like Dux used to. Thats half our problem.........we have no voices with influence on the pitch.

  7. The time for a change was right in fact it had passed maybe three months ago.

I had my doubts earlier on in the season, but the home performances against Walsall, Scunny and Bury were dire but we should have binned him after the Yeovil game. That was one of the most deflated feelings i've ever had after watching Latics and there have been so many i could name! I knew after that game that it was only a matter of time before the inevitable happened.

  8. You didn't define how long for. M'voto of now is better than M'voto of summer 2010, when Dickov brought him in. He has been better than he is currently I'll grant you though.

As for Bouzy again I think he's improved since last winter, when he was brought in, but I think your right about at the moment and can see the new gaffer making Cisak his number 1 again.

I am actually amazed that Dickov didnt resort back to putting Cisak as number 1 again. After the run we had been on (not saying it was necessarily Bouzy's fault) but he is as culpable as the others for the poor form. Cisak deserved a to get a chance to see if he could help pull us out of our rapid decline.

  9. Would be the best choice for the club at the moment. Say what you like about the cloudy circumstances that he left under, but if he can galvanise this team to anywhere near the level he did during the play off season and the post M**re era, we should get ourselves out of this :censored: we find ourselves in!

    Come Davros..........say yes!

  10. Can anyone see clubs pulling back loanees? It does happen after changes in management.

I remember Fergie doing this when he beloved son got the boot from Preston and re-calling all his loan players. However not everyone is a bitter and spiteful as him so cant see any of them re-calling their players on the basis that none of them were good enough for first team football at the respective clubs anyway.

  11. Totally agree. Nobody can every doubt PD's hard work at the club, and likewise his passion and drive to succeed at the job. Fact of the matter is he just wasnt able to cut it here and like you say his win percentage was appalling.

I do genuinely feel a bit sorry for the guy as I think he really believed that the Liverpool game was going to be a turning point for him, you could see it on his face - His Fergie moment if you like. He has been badly let down by the players but ultimately he needs to shoulder a large proportion of the blame with his tactical shortcomings. It is his team with his players so its his responsibility to get them playing how he wants them too. He's had a good crack at it and SC has backed him all the way in my opinion. Half the managers in this league would love to have the likes on Montano, Croft, Baxter, Barnard etc in their squad.

Sad it didnt work out for him but for the sake of our club he had to go and life will as ever move on. There is a far more important battle to be won now, so lets hope these players who didnt perform for whatever reason for PD can grow a pair and get us out of this mess that they have jointly helped cause! 16 more Liverpool's please boys!

  12. Not what we want! I doubt Dickov would do that though to be fair. If he wants to make it as a manager, with :censored: all on his CV and then sues his previous employer (rightly or wrongly), if I was a chairman looking at signing him he wouldn't be a very attractive proposition

Yes and we arent making a very good impression to entice anybody with any ability to take the job after PD if they see how unprofessionally we are handling this.

  13. There was a Latics fan on 606 last night who was calling for PD to go. Obviously Savage jumped to Dickov's defence with his usual blind loyalty and saying how our budget is the 4th worst blah blah.......the Latics fan then comes back and corrects him by saying it was 12th or 13th best in the league which put Sav in his place. He was really holding his own and the when questioned who he wanted to replace Dickov he says................Paul Ince :petesake:

  14. In my opinion I think SC is hoping that Dickov will resign thus avoiding the pay off. Cant think of any other reason for him going down the route of constantly undermining him. For all his shortcomings as a manager for which there are many, he still deserves to be told behind closed doors whether he is backed or sacked. We all know though the PD is unlikely to resign and for the sake of our future in League One this needs clearing up now.

  15. Its because they are still technically in admin i believe. However, they arent even guarenteed to be docked 10 points. From what i've heard if a new consortium buys the club (rather than the previous owner) then they wont lose any points.

Lets hope we dont have to rely on them being docked points to stay up!

  16. Personally I would never, ever agree to anything like that.

SC knows PD has to go, but he would get slated if he did it before Liverpool and we got a tanking. Too big a risk. Lets hope the players just give it their all.

SC shouldnt have to sack him. Surely Dickov's professional pride when looking at the job he has done would prompt him to resign! If he gives a :censored: about the club, the players and the fans he would do the honourable thing and clear his desk first thing tomorrow and let someone else have a go.

  17. He isn't going anywhere until the league game after Liverpool

Im starting to wish we had never beaten Forest now. Had it not been for this Liverpool game, Dickov may very well have been sacked and we could be getting someone in who will steer us away from the drop. As it is, its another game gone, another defeat and we are right in it.
