  1. Can't see where the next victory (or even a goal) will come from.

With the extra games we've played (between 1 and 3) more than the teams beneath us it's looking increasingly likely we'll be in 20th place by Easter - and then it's the relegation battle. I'm not confident.

I never thought i would ever see us as toothless as we were last season under Dour Dave. However, in true Latics fashion they have eclipsed even those dark days.

We need a win and quick. It was mentioned in another thread that we are good at fighting relegation but not promotion. We need to show that fight and soon otherwise we are going down. Dickov seems confident we'll get the points.......im not so sure. The players need to look at the table and realise that there is still a hell of a lot left to play for this season.

  2. Again, not a chant as such, but Norwich away, when we lost 2-0 around Christmas time a couple of years back. Great atmosphere from us, lots of balloons.

Unfortunately Norwich completely outplayed us, which left us to celebrate any shots we had as goals! That was a hilarious afternoon. Think there was a funny Delia chant that day too...

That was a brilliant day out, regardless of the result. I remember when Norwich scored both their goals all the Latics fans were up dancing along with the Norwich goal music. You could see how bemused their fans were!

  3. Answer: A large percentage of the squad with contracts up at the end of these respective seasons.

Different squads, different managers same outcome? another end of season capitulation. The only constant is that on each occasion is the contract situation of most of the core of the 1st team. Uncertainty over your future is going to be an unwelcome distraction, plus if your a player in the dressing room and you look round at other players and they are all weighing up their options its going to have an effect on you as well.

Their is an argument here that says that the players should be playing for a contract and should be professional about it however if you playing for a contract your effectively playing for yourself rather than the team. The problems in 06/07 seemed to start around about the time Chris Porter turned down a contract, you have to worry if things like this have a detrimental effect on the rest of the squad. Currently I'm watching Tounkara play like he’s going through the motions and like he's more worried about what he's doing next season rather than what he's doing on the pitch now. He's not the only one you could probably add Trotman and white to that list in recent games. The one player who was carrying the team for large chunks last night was Dale Stephens who is contracted to us for another season maybe more? You have to therefore wonder if this squad was tied down next year to us and therefore they were given a straightforward choice between playing for Oldham in league 1 or the championship we would have had the recent run that we have.

I understand that currently with the financial instability of the club that dishing out long-term contracts just isn't feasible but if your looking for an answer to this biannual process of a late February meltdown that’s the conclusion I seem to keep coming too

    Thoughts?

Or look at it another way. They have a great opportunity to either A) play for a new contract or B ) put themselves in the shop window for other clubs, Either way, if they want to stay in the game they should be really putting a shift in to make sure that they give themselves the best opportunity to of winning a contract either here or somewhere else.

The problem with Shez's promotion push seasons, I think a lot of the players knew (and in fact i think Shez himself even said) that if we were to go up most wouldnt be good enough to make the step up. So where is the incentive to get us up? This season Dickov has said on a few occasions that a lot of our team have the ability to play at a higher level......and I think a lot of them have started to believe this hype without actually achieving anything!

  4. Cant help thinking this didnt exactly help his cause:

    http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11719_6798876,00.html

2 sackings in under 10 months........not a great boost to ones CV is it?

Very true but there are always more gullible chairman out there who will be fooled by his 'talk a good game' abilities at interviews. I wonder how much longer he can live off his past Donny achievements. See Rovers have put their captain Stuart Campbell in charge. Hope they stay up now and show the world just how crap Dour Dave was and is at his job. Think he should go back to bricklaying!

  5. Sometimes you get what you deserve, we could have had cup run or at least the start of one if we hadn't gone to Accrington and played our reserves, they weren't good enough and we were out in the first round.

We have no one to blame but ourselves.

It's been a great money spinner for Orient and now they have a replay at the Emirates to look forward to, good luck to em.

They have already made £800k apparently from their cup run, not including the money they will recieve from the game at The Emirates.

Also couldnt believe yesterday when i heard they had only lost 1 of the last 20 matches in all competitions.

  6. From what I have seen of him Harry Bunn of Manchester City.

Ok, well he has done it at youth and reserve level i assume? (sorry i dont know much about him), but as we saw with Alice, Smalley, Wolfy, Matty Barlow etc there is a bit step up from that level to first team football. IMO we are missing Stephens in the middle, he seems to be the one that makes us tick. I dont think its any coincidence that we havent scored since he has been out.

  7. As many of you know, Keigan Parker was not my favourite player so imagine my surprise today when i was watching Fleetwood Town when the bloater came on as a sub after an hour. Apparently he had signed on loan last night and i didnt know. Oh and he scored with a typical strikers finish.

The connections now between Oldham and Fleetwood this season continue to rise nearly as much as ourselves and Chesterfield. Gregan, Haining, Beesley, Worthington(now departed), Parker, Liversedge(physio).

Does he still swan about (although less gracefully) like he is the dog's bollocks but predictably flatter to decieve? I would say conference is about his level but i think any level above pub league is too good for him.

  8. Many other clubs on similar or less budgets have them.

In this Division i cant think of that many that have cost next to nothing. Dickov obviously believed that Feeney would have done this business, but for whatever reason he hasnt. From what i have seen of him this season i cant ever see him scoring as well. I agree we need a real 'fox in the box' kind of player, and im sure Dickov has realised this too, i mean its pretty bleeding obvious. Im unsure about Reid as he is plainly not fit, but i would hazard a guess that a large part of our wage budget is taken up with both Fenney and Reid. As for Tonk, love or him or not, he isnt a goalscorer so if you have any ideas of a predator striker who is avaliable and cheap im sure the management team would like to hear from you.

We have struggled to score goals since we changed formation to have two up top. Its clearly not working, so we should get back to basics and go back to how we lined up when we were playing teams off the park!

  9. Why is it fans have noticed Latics have been crying out for a goal poacher all season yet this problem has not been addressed ?

Tounkara, Feeney and a gods knows when fit Reid just don't fit the bill.

On our budget i dont think these kind of players are that easy to come by. The fact that they are such a valuable commodity is the reason why they are so in demand. We just have to rely on trying to uncover a rough diamond, but sadly players like Hughes and Beckett cost money, something we dont have much of!

  10. wooh wooh

hold on - yes we are doing crap atm 2D 2L in last 4, not good enough clearly. But given how :censored:e we were last year we would be happy with 12 this year.

Now I am not for 1 minute settling for that as I want top 6, however should we end their come May, the fact that we have been and are still very capable of getting in the playoffs is testament to how well we have done this year.

We could be Sheff Weds, a team expected to be going up and are no where near it.

The saving grace in my eyes is we have 5 of the top 7 to play and we clearly must win these games now. A lot of these are at home and with MK at home on the last day it will go down to the wire.

    KTF and be POSITIVE

Why is it always us that turns up to help teams out when they are on a bad run? Carlisle had been on a poor run and Penney's shower of :censored:e had lost 5 on the trot and not kept a clean sheet for God knows how long. We roll up and give them a win and a clean sheet. So frickin frustrating!

  11. but why oh why do we forever play like that in front of big crowds! GUTTED!!! Disappointed Dickov persevered with Taylor in centre-mid, the lad's wasted there and takes away our attacking link meaning the forwards were isolated all night. Reid needs games simple as and maybe White needs to drop to the bench on Saturday so Taylor can play in his roving role and we can use an actual midfielder. Disappointed tonight but not surprised….I think we will lose money on that tonight, not due to the crowd but due to the free for all!!!! Klitschko v Taggart anyone??? Highlight of the night!

How many did Carlisle bring with them?

  12. Perhaps that was the pre-match pep talk

The reality is the 6 best teams in the division are now in the play-off spots and it'll stay that way, we're fu**ed

We were in that top 6 till tonight. We are still up there and still in with a chance. Sounded like we never got going tonight, it happens. We need to dust ourselves down, re-focus and try to get a result against Brizzle. Charlton and Dongs lost as well in games they would have expected to pick up points from.

  13. I'll bet Bristol will be his last.

I wouldnt be so sure. A lot of managers make a living from being completely clueless and somehow still get jobs elsewhere. I have always wondered how Gary Megson carries on getting jobs, and half decent ones at that. Penney has the ability to talk a really good game in interviews and then before the board realise how big their mistake is he's got a 2 or 3 year contract behind him. He may be a complete tool, but you have to admire his ability to sell himself. Maybe after this he could become a used car salesman as that would seem to be right up his street.

  14. no doubt I'll get mocked but here goes...

    why is everyone admitting defeat?

Fair enough it doesn't look good but is that not making you hungrier to survive?

I don't know about everyone else but I'm not prepared to sit on my arse and watch the club i love just disappear.

My mum used to do the turnstiles before she passed away and i have clear memories of sitting on the turnstile between the RRE and the lookers as a nipper just after the glory days and those memories mean too much to just be ruined.

I was born just as we were going up so i don't really remember the premier league days but i do know i at least want the opportunity to feel the sense of pride and passion my family describe to me.

Like i say, I'm not sitting waiting for up to go under. It obviously is going to be tough but we've done it once, as have many other clubs. Why can't we do it again? I'm going to email every local and maybe even national business i can think of and ask for support if needs own.I don't mind being cheeky.

If anyone fancies lifting their chin from the floor and being proud of the club then feel free to help me. I can't save a football club on my own.

To be honest i think a lot of it comes down to frustration at the whole situation. For once, similar to 2003, we are going well, we have a good side that looks to be going places and then suddenly WHACK, and it just seems that similar to 2003 our team will be ripped apart come the summer. The similarities between those times and now are all too familiar, whereas 2003 it was M**re and now its the council. Everytime we look as if we are progressing something comes along and casts real doubts over not only our squad but our very existance.

Yes we have been in scrapes before and managed to come out the other side, weaker playing staff wise but stronger as a club. This is the first time since the TTA and now SC have been here where i feel as if the owners are genuienely fecked off with the whole thing. SC said he would never put this club into admin, and im sure he is a man of his word. On the flip side of that, unless things improve regarding our stadium issues there may not be a club to put into administration or at least not one that resembles Oldham Athletic. Yes football is only a game, and yes life will go on with or without Latics, but for so many people the club has played such a large part in their lives that if it all goes tits up and we go to the wall then life wont be the same again. It maybe sounds a bit melodramatic, but it just seems to be one kick after another supporting Latics and it does wear you down!

  15. Surely it's their job to question the current government, after all they are the opposition....... who else can question what the government are doing bearing in mind the other two parties are in power......

Most of the crap that they are questioning the government about now is wanting answers to the problems they created in the first place. But then again thanks to Gormless's backtrack on their promise for a Referendum on the EU, the whole idea of Prime Minister's Questions is somewhat pointless as Parliament is pretty powerless to do anything as they are overuled by Brussels. Milliband is a tool and a typical Labourite.........loves spending other peoples money and then blaming everyone else when it runs out and their pathetic policies have failed...........again.

  16. Cameron just had his arse kicked by Ed Miliband at PMQs... The lad might have potential... :)

I find it incredible, after everything Labour did to the country that they still feel they are able to comment on the job that the current government are doing. Red Ed is a no mark and hopefully for the sake of the nation he or anyone from his party never darkens the entrance to Number 10 again! They are still trying to get rid of the smell of bulls**t that Gormless and Teflon Tony left!

  17. Next 5 games, and Im not being a pessimist, but I think depending on what Latics team turn up, we could either take 9 points (best outcome in my opinion) or end up with 2 points.

And at the end of Feb I hope we are still hanging on to the top 6, but I just cant see it, just to inconsistant.

    A Huddersfield

    H Carlisle

    A Bristol Rovers

    A MK Dons

    H Peterborough

This is Latics. Anything is possible. Knowing us we will go and beat Huddersfield, The Mongs and Peterborough and lose the two we should win. Would take 9 points fom those.

  18. To be even talking about the playoffs when everyone had us down to be fighting relagation is a dream in it's self so chill.

Exactly. After last seasons drivel this season has been an unexpected bonus. Disappointing we didnt win but still a long way to go, we have only last 6 league matches all season and already eclipsed our goal tally of the whole of the last campaign.

Its a point more to our total and we are still in the play-off positons and above teams with budgets much bigger than ours!
