  1. Don't blame the ref too much. Shocking decision for the penalty but what happened in the second half? First half I thought we were excellent and but foor the lack of a goalscorer would have been out of sight. Second half? Never came out of the dressing room. If they can play that well consistently then all would be well but not so much a game of two halves as two completely different games.

Is Lomax injured? Hazell sure isn't a right back - he had a mare and even if the pen wasn't it was an accident waiting to happen. I'm thinking of making a comeback as a fat unfit 46 year old as I wouldn't have looked out of place by Gregan.

  2. I did a few BTB bits and pieces but a little known fact is that it wasn't the first Latics fanzine. I think I'm right to say that title goes to "View From Afar" which was distributed free to OASIS members back around 1990. I still have them somewhere, all starring Dufflecoat Dan's spiritual cousin; Bill Chimney.

  3. We have been down this avenue before and I don't want to reopen it, however I was at the dogs with 4 friends (3 of whom had access to the players lounge). At no time did any of us see the alleged headlock incident, but what I can't recall seeing anyone mentioning is Hughes (rather the worse for ale) standing on a table shouting the word "ANARCHY" at Sheridan.

Dictionary definition - Lack of government in a state or organisation.

    Need I say more.

Thanks Lee for what you have done for us, you have had our money, I think the time to move on is correct and in my view a wise move for all concerned.

Should have been told to walk home and pick up his boots in the morning.

  4. Not necessarily, Hughes has been garbage for a while. He has recently cost us points in my opinion.

He's scored 18 yes, but then he is a centre forward who has played a load of games for a top half side. It's hardly mega. Anyway, have some faith in Joe....he knows the crack.

If the reports about Belle Vue were right he should have been sacked anyway. Do you think he would have put Joe in a headlock? I'd have paid to see that!

  5. I live and breath the latics, i cant believe we have thrown the towel in. i for one wont let the thought of promotion leave my head until its mathmatically impossible. Dont know whos decision it was (hughesy) but its like pulling the plug on the playoff support machine, now heres what i reckon. BFJ wont be here next season he never intended to be, he's been brought in as an hatchet man, clean the club up, get rid of dead wood, ready for a new face, a good win saturday and we could be within a win of the playoffs ffs! I sincerely hope this isnt the case. i couldnt care wether BFJ stays or goes tbh but i hope he wasnt lieing wen he said he was giving it a go, cos 2 games later he has stated he isnt. (the playoffs i mean)

You don't need a hatchet man to clear out players at the end of their contracts

  6. It wasn't purchased for 'power' reasons Ackey. It's a way in, a foot in the door. Talk to Dave Ogden about the problems faced during the SAFE days. Holding that 3% gives us a seat on the board - a chance for the fans to be heard, and for our representative to at least know what's going on.

In SAFE days we tried and tried to talk to Moore but never got anywhere. The money the shares cost is irrelevant - what else would it have been spent on? Anything that gives fans representation is good.

  7. I wouldn't.

At some point I believe we will get promoted out of this division.

Whilst the memories of those acheivements 'back in the day' are priceless and help me through the suffering of crapness we have watched for the last 10 years for the most part - even if in the end we wone nothing.

Now if it was the option of a Championship now vs the cup run? Tougher call - winning trophies is what football is about, though I'd still find it hard to not have those memories of Arsenal, Villa etc,

On a slight tanget, I get really annoyed with teams like Villa who through away a chance of UEFA cup to concentrate on Champions League qualification. Fans want to win things, not just qualify for a competition they have no chance of winning and are likely to get knocked out off and end up in....yep, that's right the UEFA cup.

Won nothing? Do you still think West Ham won the second division championship??

  8. Not sure why anyone should be surprised that players do not, by and large, share our own commitment to the club. It is the way of modern football. The use of agents and the freedom of contract rules mean they are inevitably going to be looking to change clubs on a regular basis if there is something in it for them. The modern use of a flood of loanees does not help to breed any loyalty or togetherness.

I domn't think anyone is surprised; it's just that some things make you stop and think for a momeet

  9. I reached a very similar conclusion last year Dave - I've not been to Latics this season at all and when I've had the chance of a free ticket, I turned it down!

Still read (rarely post) all the threads on here, keep a check on the news for Latics... but just don't have that "bug" for it anymore... partly down to my trust-related involvement with the club, and partly down to a general two-fingers up to football... the majority of players (and the people involved in football) are just over-paid egotistical gob:censored:es... and I've just had enough of it even though I've known that all along... as we all do I'm sure. ha ha

Oh get Darren McInAHuff here... i'll take my cynacism and pessimism elsewhere! lol

Interesting you should say that. There's lots of reasons why my visits are infrequent these days but one of them is a hangover freom the SAFE days which was a depressing experience on lots of levels.

  10. A good friend of mine who watched far more games than I did had a moment of epiphany at a game towards of the end of the second relegation. After am awful home performance and defeat we were waiting for a cab back to Piccadilly outside the Clayton Arms. A group of players came past laughing and joking, apparently without a care in the world.

At that moment he said he realised that the club meant nothing to the players and that all the emotion he had invested over the years had been wasted.

He's never beeen to a game since; I wonder how many others reached a similar conclusion this week.

  11. Dave,

With respect, you don't know the full story. The club will and indeed have already stated that they are invetsigating the various "claims" relating to the incident and AH has also stated in the official statement that if the allegations are proven then he would expect the strongest possible action to be taken and that sackings cannot be ruled out. That shows how seriously they are taking this.

Now employment law is somewhat more (no pun intended) involved than it was even in CM's time as the Dabo situation last season proved (look how long that took to process through the regulations)

First of all the allegations have to be proven. The club have viewed the CCTV twice apparently and they will have formed an opinion by now I would have thought, but the process will take a little time.

Be patient and lets see what happened first before jumping to conclusions.

    Cheers,

Yep, all fair points. Still think being out at that sort of do was a disgrace though

    Harry

  12. You think acting on newspaper reports rather then the facts would regain the club some self-respect?

Well, it's a novel approach, but I prefer to see them act on what actually happened.

iirc smart crashed through the doors of the belgrade hotel, smashed them off their hinges and tried to assault a couple of coppers whilst completely bladdered.

most reports of the dogs suggest that 2 players fell out and had a bit of handbags.

Whilst neither is a good thing, the impression so far seems to be that the dogs was not in the same league.

Well they've already lost my respect for being out on the lash at such a crucial stage of the season. Embarrassing.

  14. its the year diego was born ! really it was the year pine villa was formed ,after a few men meet at the featherstall and junction hotel in oldham , the man we can thank is called john garland and his son fred , along with a few regulars decided to form a football team , PINE VILLA

    Not in 1897 they didn't!

  15. Common misconception, Sharp wanted him, Stott wouldn't pay the peanuts his club wanted! (Which was bollocks as we'd just sold Jobbo, so were flush) What is more frustrating is that they coughed up £350K for Jigsaw Barlow and we ended up with Michelle Vonk on loan who did very well but was recalled and it took us another year before we brought in a commanding centre-half (Garnett)

My version says that Sharp wanted to extend the trial with a view to signing but Hyppia got a firm offer from Willem IV in Holland, where his best mate played and took the firm offer
