I was somewhere on the side. To be honest didn't see much of the match due to it being packed and I was 12 so about 4 foot 6, saw more on the tv footage afterwards.

Interesting one that, never occurred to me before, presume it wasn't all ticket so you could pay in wherever you fancied standing.

Same here for that game-stood in side stand. No eye contact or speaking to each other on the way out till we got in the car.

I think they are in this for the long haul though. I do hope though that they aren't gambling on getting promoted and then thinking the club will be profitable because while our revenue will clearly jump so too will the asking price of players that we will need to compete at that level. That said its not something I will be losing sleep over just yet

Good point-as we climb up the leagues hopefully then expenses rise with it and we are no better off.

The words profit and football do not mix well.

If they were that bad an investment then all clubs below the Prem would be fan owned and run ultra-prudently, wouldn’t they? It’s only when the milk starts to turn sour they become a millstone for a disinterested owner.

But they are a bad investment-business sense seems to fly out the window with football ownership-something I dearly hope is not going to happen to us BUT the signs are not good at the moment. I am amazed that I actually have to contemplate this after what has happened in the past.

Depending upon sugar daddies and foreign owned money laundering is not a viable business plan but it is happening all around us in this sport.

Garner is a good signing for this level of football.

We're non-league. If he'd gone to one of our rivals, I'm pretty sure we would be saying how good a signing it was for this level. I can't imagine many [if any] defences relishing the thought of the possibility of potentially facing up to Norwood, Dallas and Garner in the opposition's forward line..with big Mike waiting in the wings.

Be honest though. Is it a position you would sign given the other failings in the team? Can have all the forwards in the world (which we seem to have) but we cannot get the ball  to them.

If the plan is good enough and a positive trajectory is achieved then investors are there to be had.

Money makes money. Rothwells achieve promotion with the initial acquisition of the club. Further investment is put in from a third party who puts enough in the pot for a run to the Championship. The investor, plus the Rothwells make much more money than a dozen Nuttalls picking splinters out of their arses when the club is sold to an even bigger investor in the Championship.

This is how I translate it as. Speculate to accumulate. The plan only derails if we stay at any of those levels for a considerable amount of time. It's dependant on overall success, which, if the plan is made, forecasted properly and stuck to, then has a more than good enough chance of achieving.

I cannot believe that there are still posters who think money can be made from running/owning a football club. do they never read a paper or look at  BBC Sport etc and see what a money pit football is at just about every level?

Far better, Wayne was very good, but a bit lightweight, this lad has a strong build, can take it and dish it back. Wins lots of free kicks with his pace and trickery.

As you say unfortunately may never see him in our first team if we take an initial big fee and add ons.

    Very good?

Used to go a lot in those days to reserve games. He was outstanding-partly for the very reason you have criticized him for. He was a slight lad but he just had that something you could not pin down and players never got near him. Best I have seen of Latics youth and such a shame what happened to him.

I accept the game then was nowhere near as physical as it is now though.

I'd prefer to gain promotion with entertaining football like Latics did in 90/91

Why does it need to be boring ugly football? All it needs is finding footballers who can play a good attacking game.

Walker and Dallas look a good start toward this. Plenty about at all levels.

What is this sudden obsession with Walker-you mention him in nearly every post now yet he hasn't shown anything yet for me in his brief cameo?

And that's before we even begin to think about his disastrous first three months at the club...

Why keep looking back and cherry picking when the real relevance is how he performs now? Put aside your personal dislike and try to watch the performance now.

He played in the 3-0 defeat at Fylde when no player rated more than 4/10. And in the opening day defeat at Southend - 3/10 at best. Sorry.

No need to be sorry when the examples you have given are were the whole team was dreadful-bit hard to shine when the other 10 are doing nowt.

I know that's harsh on the back of his 8/10 showing on Tuesday but them performances haven't always been there and that's why players have had to be brought in.

You are right-it is a bit harsh. I bet you would struggle to find a less than 6/10 performance from Sheron over his career here. Players have been brought in to replace the likes of McGahey not Sheron.

I think Hammond will provide competition for Sherons place, I know that was only a small cameo on Tuesday but he showed awareness and decent mobility when he came on, if he can pass a football he may well come straight in. We've not bought him to sit on the bench.

I would take him over Lundstram-Sheron was nigh on MOM on Tuesday and chips in with goals. Something Lundstram has not looked like doing so far.

Could both have been Latics players though Banks was a lazy bustard.

Of course you must be lazy bustard if the team you play for is romping away with this league.

Maybe that is why he was always getting the bird from Latics fans when he was here.

It’s always bullshit to an extent, (because the managers that do it well say it at every club) but it’s important bullshit because all fans like feeling a connection with the manager. LJ and MM are very similar in that regard, they both make effort with the fans, mention them interviews without prompting. They about ‘what Oldham fans want and expect’ (which is the same at every club 😂

Well Hibs fans couldn't wait to get rid of him. He was almost a figure of fun on the Scottish A View From The Terrace programme.

I just think mentally and psychologically we’re fucked as a club.

Fans groan at not being full throttle against bin men up and down the land, fine.. but these are just average division 5 lads. They panic, shit themselves and fuck up.

Bring in another player from other amateur institutions such as Altrincham or Gateshead, they too will crumble.

They’re not mentally fit to do it at Boundary Park. They can’t do it at Boundary Park.

Usual display of pessimism-you really cannot help it can you?
