  1. I buy Club merchandise which does not have the sponsor emblazoned across it.

The exceptionn to that is when I pick up stuff cheaply in the Club's laundry sale.

I used to do that for shirts until it was impossible (I think) to buy one without the sponsor. I don't think I ever had Bovis on a Latics shirt even when it looked weird without the sponsor on the "Celtic" green one...

I used to buy them all and collect them but nowadays the inlaws tend to buy them me for Xmas/Birthday pressies.

(In the unlikely event any of them are reading this, there's a new onecoming out soon, hint, hint... )

  2. Nor do I, however my current interest in the Spanish Civil War has led me to borrow a couple of my Dad's Ernest Hemmingway books - he says they're quite violent, I'm gearing myself up to start For Whom The Bell Tolls.

I read a couple of Hemingway's books when we lived in France. They had a few at the local library. A Farewell To Arms was good.

Back to the OP, started to read Bright-Sided http://www.barbaraehrenreich.com/brightsided.htm

(How the Relentless Promotion of Positive Thinking Has Undermined America) by Barabara Ehrenreich but I have such a short attention span it's rare I finis....

That's good it means you should end up near the front.

  5. buzzcocks have just announced a large usa tour, and if you can, i definitely recommend PiL..gig of the decade for me last december, hope they announce for uk dates soon...stunning.

Cheers Johnny. My mate saw the Buzzcocks in Sydney a few weeks (or maybe months) ago. I'll keep my eye out for them. I think I saw an ad for PiL recently, I'll check. Thanks again.

  6. On one of our regular friday night visits to Whittles this week, I had the fortune to stumble on a classic punk band called Last Gang In Town. They've been going a couple of years, but this was the first time I'd seen them- it won't be the last.

Great covers of Dead Kennedys, SLF, Damned, Clash, Pistols, Stranglers, Ruts, Buzzcocks, Skids, Subs, Upstarts, Ramones, and loads more - all done brilliantly.

It really took me back to my youth, and I don't give a toss what everyone thought of a 40-odd year old pogo-ing on his own by the door (It's only as embarrassing as being a Latics fan at the moment!).

I went home and told the mrs it made me want to dig my old tartan keks out again. She said she didn't know I used to be a Bay City Roller fan.................. <_<

If you've not seen them, they are well worth it. There's a gig list at www.lgit.co.uk

That line up of covers sounds brilliant. I'm hoping SLF come to Seattle again on on their next US tour. Seen them here twice after they got the band back together and one memorable gig in San Fran with andyb100 off here.

  7. 3 utd fans sat behind us totally sh*t*ing it when it went to extra time after seeing us dominate everton after 90 mins in the 3rd game, they where sure we where going to beat them...so was I.

felt a little different leaving there that day than it did leaving wembley 4 years later, it all could have been so different.

fergie was looking at his watch for different reason at the end of those 2 games

unfortunately the sad thing is latics fans old and new will never be as lucky again to see our little team from a town of chimneys scare the :censored: out of the big clubs all around the country, GREAT DAYS!

I looked at my calendar today and thought 8th April was a special date but couldnt remember why. Thanks to the OP for reminding me!

Yes, I was there. Similar memories to Prozac's - went on Barlows, listening to Palace beat Liverpool etc. A great day out but spoiled for me cos our seats were in the corner of Platt Lane right against the Main Stand fencing near some reds (I'll be polite today I know they're hurting  ) We'd been to Maine Rd loads of times and we chose Platt Lane to be behind the goal. Anyway, loads of reds in with Latics fans and pockets of fighting after each ManU goal. Relief in the end when Ooh Roger equalised. I thought we "scored too early" with Earl's goal as they were shocked how good we were. They thought they just had to turn up and they would beat us. Loved giving it the reds after Marshall's goal - my mate thought I'd lost it!

Went in the Kippax for the replay. Gutted but nowhere near as gutted as I would be at the Wembley semifinal. Enough said.

  8. No maybe he can't as it was unlucky it resulted in a goal. However, he always does through games. He somehow puts his head where his boot should be and he stoops so low to do it that he is almost horizontal on the floor.

Did it again last Sat and I mentioned it to Bristol latic who was stood with us too.

    grrrrrr :ranting:

Reminds me of a certain legend by the name of Earl Barrett.
