  1. Up to 68, regretably not all with Athletic. Anyone done the full 92 ? If so how many games involving the Latics ?
  2. In a seperate post Greganator highlights the marvellous relationship between Grovesey and the Ford Stand Paddock. Due to age struggle to remember AG but obviously aware of his massive part in our history. One question, could anyone inform why such an influential player was sold to a rival, simply a case of money ????? Very interested.
  3. Working on the basis of we need change, please nominate candidates who are available, realistic and would see OAFC as a step forward. Excluding Ritchie I can't think of anybody, but I remain very interested as to your shortlist.
  4. Thought Bassett went following Wises' departure with GM. bringing in his own staff.
  5. Quite, Dave Bassett would be an excellent candidate.
  6. Yes and the first play-off season that I had in mind 1986-87 saw very modest attendances.
  7. I was at all the above bar Gillingham and WBA. I remember that George Riley was due to play in this game with a view to us signing him. He sustained an injury before the game and we fortunatly switched our attention to Frankie Bunn. Not sure why the Fulham attendance was so low but guessing an end of season nothing game, with practically no away following. We have never, ever been well supported; even the play-off season and premiership were still very poor attendance wise.
  8. Didn't really understand this comment but Alan Hardy's recollections would be fascinating, along with Ian Stott's.
  9. Fascinating stuff, just hope the stories about drinking and falling on hard times are rubbish. One thing I do remember about Roger is the club offering to pay for a trip anywhere in the world in recognition of him becoming our record scorer. Roger very sensibly chose the Channel Islands ! I bet Mr. Stott was delighted.
  10. The Wikipedia article suggests this, although I always thought he resided there ?
  11. Just been reading the Wikipedia stub on Roger which reports his whereabouts is unknown ! Is this actually the case or an urban myth ? Also when was the last time he was back at BP ? Seem to recall him taking a penalty at the Chaddy End in a night game 2002ish (remember David Reeves had recently signed) Did anyone from this forum ever meet him ?
  12. What was also disappointing was Sharp's miss which would have made it 2-0. A poor effort for a striker of his pedigree. I came out of there knowing we would have one chance only to beat them.
  13. I remember Frizzell's testimonial match where the crowd was considerably higher than our league games, this followed his sacking in the Summer of 1982. Apart from the blanket "Looking for a new direction" the club never really provided a definitive or satisfactory explanation. Any offers ?
  14. Can't remember exactly, some time in the late 80's where Bunn was assaulted by Aizlewood. This game the Latics fans were actually behind the goal rather than that horrible corner pen you refer to. My Dad can remember travelling to Leeds in the George Hardwick era; 1953. Went on the train with his mates, only aged 13. The Leeds fans were really helpful and looked out for them !!!!!!
  15. Think it was 1-1, end of season game 88-89ish. Latics goal was at our end, but I can't recall the scorer-could have been Cecere ?
  16. I had forgotten about Harrison. A classic case of Liverpool offering silly money as they got wind United were on the scent. The rumour at the time was that United were preparing to offer £25 000, which somehow panicked the Scousers into offering TEN times that amount ! The lad actually scored a number of goals for Liverpool's reserves before injury finished his career before it really started. Another to add to the list of "Never did it" is Paul Moulden. I remember being really pleased when we signed him as well, but he was not the prospect that had been at City.
  17. I do remember that ! Respect Flynny ! Also respect to John Kelly who really stood up to Batty who behaved like a late 80's version of Brenmer. Aizlewood made an awful challenge on Frank which messed up his knee and prematurely ended his career; ! A couple of years later the Chronicle had us linked with Baird and also Kamara, I am glad they never wore the shirt. Also of note is the tale that Joe was in for Batty at 250k a move which was blocked by the majority of the directors................
  18. Yes it was Sunderland and then, I think, onto Barnsley. Although I have no memory of Rodger reappearing back at BP and we did play Barnsley an awful lot in the 1980's ?
  19. Yes he did, where did he reappear a year later, scoring twice in a televised game ?
  20. You make some interesting points there and have reminded me about Alan Young (do you remember the Chaddy End slaughtering him on his return with Leicester ? Although he still managed to score). Yes, I am still fuming about Currie bottling it and also the challenge by Aizlewood, away at Leeds, on Frank which more or less ended his career. In the same game Iain Baird was gobbing at Cecere; absolutely disgusting and totally in keeping with that club ! I suppose Cecere didnt quite cut it, although I really liked him, added to that list Doug Anderson, Matthew Tipton, Ben Burgess, John McGinlay (Shame as injury free I believe he could have been affective) and £225 000 rated Allan Smart !!
  21. Frankie Bunn ? Nigel Worthington Rick Holden, Isle Of Man
  22. Tis indeed true; from my memory Andy Lochead David Shaw Stevie Taylor Vic Halom Simon Stainrod Rodger Wylde Roger Palmer Ron Futcher Mickey Quinn Tommy Wright Andy Ritchie Chris Porter ? Arguably Were all forwards that were signed to replace an outgoing sale and became real favourites. Unfortunatly as is stated that well seems to have run dry over the last twenty years. Without cheating can anyone tell me the club Wylde was sold to and his next club after that ? Another thing, does anyone remember Rodger coming back to BP ? I can't but assume he must have done ?
  23. Funny how you remember detail from 30 plus years ago but struggle to remember who we played at the start of the season !! I also vividly remember a game against York from the 75/76 season when I huddled up to my Dad under his big, black umbrella as it absolutely lashed it down. I remember the club moved supporters into the Chaddy to take shelter leaving me and Dad the only supporters on the terrace. I'm also fairly sure we lost the game as well, but stand corrected.
