That's the most concerning aspect for me. People criticise DU for his "excuses" but in fairness they're (mostly) legitimate. Had we been coming into this season off the back of a really strong one, there wouldn't be this kind of reaction. But although results improved towards the end of last season, the quality of product didn't follow that trend. There wasn't a particular identity or style begining to appear. In fact DU mentioned time and again that he couldn't play the way he wanted until he had a squad capable. That bought him time, but also put pressure on the beginning of this season. And I think it made his job a lot harder, he's effectively had to try to implement a philosophy or identity from scratch over the summer. There's a reason why we always hear that you have to give a new manager time. It takes time to implement major change. And there's always bumps in the road at the start.

But he's already had that time, so fans rightly will demand results and crucially an improvement in the quality of football. And I just don't see a plan, a philosophy, identity whatever you want to call it. We try to play out from the back one game then go hoof ball all game the next. The best teams have recognisable patterns of play, you see them create and score chances the same way all the time. We don't have that, it's aimless hopeful balls waiting for mistakes from the opposition. When we do create chances it's more often than not just because of the quality we have on the pitch. This is a squad more than capable of achieving a top 3 finish but at the moment it looks like a team that will be fighting at the wrong end of the table.

It's entirely possible that we could turn things around over the next few games, the injured players come back and we begin to see the style of play unsworth wants. But he's got very little room for error now. 1 or 2 wins won't stop those calls for him to go. It needs to be a sustained period of improved performances and results.

Agree on the patterns of play. Nothing at all going forward, nor has there ever been. He’s clearly a defensive manager but his sides are so easy to play against, not solid, rarely press, invite pressure and can’t keep clean sheets. When ur defensive the min should be ur good at shutting sides out and his can’t do that from what we seen whether it’s back 5 or 4.

  3. A poor result, tough one on Unsy as the red has killed it but again we don’t look solid and I do t think it’s asking too much for us to shut them out even a player light at home. Overall I could cope with us being where we are with the results if we looked like a good side and had been unlucky, but we haven’t. We don’t score that many, we can’t keep clean sheets, the footy is rank and there is very little improvement. Hopefully the board act this week

If our own manager is telling us Chesterfield will win the league four games in it tells you all you need to know about the mentality around the club, fucking negative defeatist in charge whose beat already, unfotunately his teams reflect his attitude.

I thought he’d been media trained. We are meant to be challengers! Jesus. What a comment. Can’t get behind the guy, don’t trust him, don’t like him nor his footy. Can’t wait for him to go tbh

He has said we conceded from a set piece, which is unlike us. But we've conceded from a set piece in every game this season.

He said they're struggling to get up to speed with the Saturday/Tuesday schedule. But he said they were having the toughest pre-season of their careers...

It’s hard to trust or believe DU, said on a thread only last week. Nothing he says adds up and when u generally look in more depth like on goals conceded he’s wrong. It def like us so far this year to concede from set plays and he should know that!

Yet he scored a cracker against Aldershot.

Saturday you were raving about Nuttall who never looked like scoring against Aldershot despite the score and he was hopeless tonight.

    Goals win games.

I’m  not his biggest fan because generally I think he can contribute more but when look at goals only and remove his pens his return is terrible. He never really threatens.  I can’t see him scoring regularly and we need 2 up top to bag plenty

Hobson loves to defend, he's unlucky he's not starting and isn't a right back so on the face of it it's another stupid signing given he was in the team of the season last season. Can't fault Hogan whose probably been our most consistent player this season so far and Raglan brings obvious quality but Hobson is the best of the three in my opinion particularly with his pace. He can play a bit too.

Defence isn't really an issue it's the centre of the park, we just get outplayed for large parts of the game.

Oh well Chesterfield followed by Boreham Wood away coming up, we will see where we are at. Lose those two and I think they'll have to get rid of him.

Hobson was a player of year so clearly has something and I agree I think he should be playing.

defence shouldn’t be a prob with the personnel but we have never looked solid during the full reign. We never nullify anyone, even aldershot had chances at 0-0 and again at 3-1. If we play bad we don’t get 0-0 draws.

If he can't acknowledge how poor we are how is he going to improve us, it's basic stuff really and he must walk round with his head up his arse.

finally watched that after seeing the comments. Agree, the credibility and respect dips further when u see that. How can u get behind him when he can’t even come out and give an honest review.

He probably realises there are 135 points still to play for...

he says it will take time to gel and if they aren’t near the top after a few games it isn’t end of world. U will struggle to find a champion team coming out with rhetoric like that is what I was trying to point to

    Dickenson Pre Aldershot

    et voilà! :D

ha had just watched that IV before logging on here and was about to put same.

I get what he’s trying to say but have to say any real arrogant driven winner who’s expecting to be up there would be saying everything that people are mentioning on here. Bad performance, needs to improve immediately, we can’t lose 2 on trot and be playing catch up, standard last week way below what we expect and need. Sounds like he’s just happy to be here

You are correct Wrexham and Notts County didnt go up by playing negative football. With all the money spent on forwards we should be following the same philosophy.

agree. Teams that win leagues will dominate spells of games and force teams back or put them under sustained pressure.

Unsy likes his teams to get back in shape when we don’t have the ball. It’ll be even worse to watch that next week when we are at home playing that style against aldershot who will be a mid table team. There’s nothing to suggest he’ll employ a front foot style that gives us a chance to dominate games

    You’re spot on.

It’s not the result per se.

It’s what has led to it- it was all so so avoidable.

It’s like he’s hell bent on being right about a formation- but amazingly buys no players to fit that that system or totally forgets it nearly got him the sack.

He’s either incredibly arrogant, or incredibly stupid.

he obv likes them to get back In shape when they not on ball but over and over again it invites pressure. He isn’t going to change, the good thing is though is that the owner won’t accept anything less than a title challenge now. He either gets it to work or him and ebrell will be gone soon

We know what a good team looks like (See teams under Shez, Dowie, LJ and Royle (if you're old enough))

This isn't it.  Never has been under Unsworth.

The opportunity we have will pass unless something drastically changes.

Agree. Results aside and purely performance there hasn’t been any dominant all round performances like Southend have just produced against us, where we have tons of shots and oppo next to none in his full reign. Perhaps dorking away but that is literally it and looks a fluke result now. Not close to looking like a top team in any area

  14. Tactics again horrible. At 1-0 the front two close and midfield retreat to half way. Just make it easy for them. Then kick off at 2-0, anyone see that, pass it back they close we look half hearted lose it nearly lose 3rd. From second goal head went down no fight. Management aren’t instilling a lot from today. Second best all day, never got in behind, never got to byline, looked all over place. Midfield sat off and couldn’t pass. Couldn’t look any further off a team u think will challenge

  15. We will be aiming quite high in regards to player signings. Reliably informed they are going to try and benefit from the contract changes that are incoming over wages when injured. The general rule will be 3 months injured and I think it’s like statutory sick pay. Latics will honour full payment even if injured in new contracts. If majority of clubs don’t do that it could leave us in a stronger position to sign. The turnover will be substantial though and when that happens it’s never easy to start well so big job for Unsy to get us off to a good start next year
