  1. Its madness how crap we are!

I grew up on the Herbert Street wall at 'sheddings. Was almost in tears when they knocked it down. As a school kid saw us beat Wigan in that never-to-be-forgotten Challenge Cup match, and run the invincible Aussies close. There's cracking footage of both those games on youtube. Capacity when I used to go was just over 10,000. I think the record crowd was about 28,000 versus Huddersfield in the 50s. In my dad's era (mid 50s) they had arguably the best rugby league team in the world. They just never made it to Wembley. The old-timers would tell you it was a hoodoo. They were up with minutes to go in one semi final at Swinton when a fog came down and the game had to be abandoned. They promptly lost the replay. I've seen them in three semis, and in one against Warrington they were robbed, scoring what would have been a game levelling try with a kick to come on the hooter. The ref disallowed it for an offside that only he saw. If they'd have won they'd have been at Wembley the day before Latics in 1990. As he walked off to a barrage of abuse the ref said calmly: "You've already got one team at Wembley haven't you?" Whitfield I think his name was.

Used to stand at the back of the Sheddings End until they closed it. Was a cracking atmosphere in there. There'd be the odd bit of trouble (mainly with Featherstone fans) but it was mostly good banter. And the oxtail soup they used to serve in a tiny shed at the front was the greatest taste sensation in the world.

    Great days.

  2. Remember hearing it on one of the SC LW interviews.

But given the drop in advertising revenue, likely reduction in season ticket sales/attendances (at best if prices stay the same and so do sales, the inflationary decrease will be felt) etc. it does seem logical that we will have less money to spend next season.

Also - I think TTA have been funding losses at the club and given that their businesses/fianances will be feeling the economic recession as well then this is another factor.

So - if we have less cash and can only hope for relatviely comfortable survival for a year or 3, do we really want JR to stay and risk getting flak?

Wont every other club be hit by this crisis? Doesn't that mean the bar will be lowered?

  3. Joe has been in charge for 6 games. In which we have W0D3L3 and yet to have a clean sheet. In comparison Sheriden's last 6 games produced a record of W1D2L3 and again had no clean sheets.

For me there has been no change in form since his arrival, though to be fair to Joe that the results on his first day in charge pretty much meant all hope of the play-offs had gone IMO.

When Joe came we needed a miracle, and in a short period of time he has not managed it.

Question is - do we want him to stay?

Next season budget will be cut, and therefore 'success' is probably mid-table at best. However the fans expectations probably won't be and I don't think I could bare to hear and read about Joe getting abuse from the masses.

I wonder whether its better that Joe bows out now with no disgrace rather than put himself through the pain and anguish of a tough and more than likely un-rewarding season next year.

Who has said the budget will be lower?
