I'd class him as a good lad whose easily influenced and the clique he was part of played a very large part in getting this club relegated when it really shouldn't have, he's fortune to be blessed with a ton of ability but it's unfortunate that he can't focus on that instead of being the clown that he invariably is, probably thinks he's a right lad but I will bet you a pound to a penny he will have some regrets as he matures, got the world at his feet - literally and trying his best to fuck it up for himself, time after time. Sad really.

I think this is more like the reality.

Obviously not comparing Jack to a tyrannical lunatic but the previous posters point of people who grew up with him saying hes great doesn’t carry much gravitas. Your mates will 9 times out of 10 back you even if youre the biggest bell going. Im sure we all know one

People involved in the game, who have followed his career, whose opinion I trust - not childhood friends - have told me he’s a good lad overall.

I don’t know him personally, just passing on what I’ve been told that goes against the bad egg theory somewhat.

I think we all want Jack Byrne

‘the footballer’ back, it’s Jack Byrne the person we don’t want!

Sure, he’s had his problems, of his own making too.

But i I know people who have known Byrne from the time he started kicking a football. Claims he’s a “bad egg” are greatly exaggerated.

Fair comment. Up the Latics oh for a win today. Watching it in Manila International Airport my flight is delayed indefinitely. Could be here all night hehe

Cool, I once listened to Latics Player during the tail end of a hurricane in Arizona - but Manila International Airport tops that...

When the real truth comes out your statement above might make you look a gulable prat. Mark my words he’s suspended from the first team for very good reasons and you won’t see him playing in a Latics shirt again.

Wouldn’t be the first time I’d look like a prat so I’m not bothered about that. Just offering my take on the situation.

Also I’m not expecting him to play for us again either.

I suppose the verdict on that situation would depend on whether he is refusing because he is arrogant and childish or whether he really believes he has done nothing to apologise for.

I know people who know Byrne.  They speak highly of him.

I think like in real life outside football (where there is often no one reason for most things that happen)  he can be arrogant and childish at times, but also believe he has done nothing to apologise for.

He’s still a young man. Talent might outweigh maturity in some circumstances.

Ultimately  I don’t think the club has done itself any favours in how this situation is being managed.

I think the “nobody is bigger than the club” is an easy line to throw out when there is a player to stitch up.

Very easy for a club to let the “bad egg” line run too.

There is a shit situation here and the club is trying to take the moral high ground. And I don’t believe the club on this one.

    That ‘s a real shame

  7. Joe Royle is my football hero, marginally ahead of Andy Ritchie. I love the man.

When I was a lot younger, and Latics were a Premiership club, I wrote a letter to Joe - keep in mind that I was in Galway, and these were the days before email etc, and I was a kid who loved Latics (and still do).

It was early in the season and I posted the letter - basically just a note saying I love Latics - and forgot about it.

Someone who didn’t forget about it was Joe.

A few weeks after the season ended - sadly in relegation - a letter pops through the letterbox in Galway. Joe wrote back - he had waited until the end of the season to respond, as he wanted to hold off his reply until it had played out.

I still have that letter. The excitement it generated for a young me was off the charts.

As as I already said, I love Joe. My favourite man in football.

He said he’d watched them and knows they like to get it down and play and look a good footballing side.

how much scouting do you think Wellens did before he got the gig (probably not the best example but he did talk about forgoing an intimate weekend with the mrs to watch Mk Dons)

FB will scout teams as the season goes on as most managers do - the difference with most managers is that they’ve been in the leagues before or managers before - Frankie has neither been in this league nor managed before.

He was hired in the close season so not like he’s had any games to watch and if you think he can possibly watch videos of matches of every team in this league in the 57 days he’s employed whilst also running us please PM me your numbers as id love to get you involved in some time management courses for 1 or 2 of my team at work

and maybe, just maybe he is being deliberately coy... we will see

Ah fair enough - I hadn't heard the interview...

  9. From the moment we were relegated I knew Byrne wasn’t going to play for us again one way or another.

What worries me though, is how it looks like we’re freezing him out. I can only presume we’re paying his wages until another club takes him off our hands, and AL is going to make things as miserable as possible for him between now and then to force him out and off the payroll as early as possible.

That’s an ugly way to do business, in my humble opinion.

Though it’s possible - or probable - that Byrne had a strop of some sort and that is something AL will use to tear up his contract.

Having said that, repeated late payments is obviously something a player could use against the club in the event of a standoff.

Anyway - my point is it’s not pretty.  And while Byrne is easily branded a bad egg, the way things appear to be operating under AL don’t make him look like a particularly good egg...

I think AL might be a stark raving bonkers egg to be honest.
