  1. To adapt the question to Ireland to qualify for a World Cup or Latics, given where I’m from...

i’ll always love Latics more. That was clear to me after I realised how I’d celebrated a certain FA Cup goal versus Everton more wildly than I’d ever celebrated an Ireland goal...

    So 100 per cent Latics.

  2. I think he’s the type of player who needs to be in comfortable surroundings to thrive.

Unfortunately for all concerned, we are anything but comfortable.

“The best player in Ireland” tag would have been more realistic if he had progressed to his potential.

Pity it didn’t work out. Best of luck to him from here on in.

  3. I'm looking into doing the whole away trip thing this year... I've only done one Latics away game before and that was Crewe. Grim...

Speaking of grim - my grandmother was from Grimsby, and I haven't been there since I was a kid - so I'm eyeing up Grimsby v Latics on September 15th which fits in nicely with other stuff I have on work-wise...

I presume there's busses that go from Boundary Park, or would most Latics fans hop on a train?

Either way, I'd back plenty of beer for the journey...

He might not admit it but Mike Keegan might tell people he was the source. For Wellens to be sacked he must have admitted some wrong doing. You don’t get the sack for nothing.

I'd be flabbergasted if Mike started mouthing off about his sources. He's just not going to do that - nobody would speak to him again and he'd be out of work in a flash.

  5. Fact is we are League Two. So it’s not a surprise that we haven’t got the sort of name as manager some expected.

    Best of luck to Frankie.

But I think it is clear that you’re either up for what AL plans or you are out, at OAFC now (to state the obvious).

Wellens said recruitment policy had to change. He’s gone.

I’d wager Barry  - bloody hell, Barry again - said: “Don’t hire a French manager, the supporters will go nuts... Hire someone who wants it enough you can throw them a bone or two then do your own thing without the manager annoying you”.

So yeah, I think supporters’ opinions have been underestimated.

We’re Abdallah’s Athletic now, and I’m not optimistic.

Also, is it something that would bother AL, to have TP out of the way?

I suspect someone bussing in their own foreign lads wouldn’t have much interest in TP’s work.

My prediction for where we finish next season - 17th.

Can't say I am too excited about this and, for my money, it shows how out of touch Barry is with the fans that he thinks an appointment of a club "legend" (I use the term very loosely) will appease the fans.

But, he has my backing and it is important that we manage expectations next season. I think the club is in so much of a state that promotion would be an absolutely incredible achievement. A season of consolidation, and sorting the club itself out, would be a decent enough season...

    My sentiments exactly.

From an acquaintance on Facebook -

“Latics fans: My admittedly limited impressions of Frankie Bunn from seeing him work at Hudd Town..... Training will be very professional, will work his players VERY hard, especially in pre-season, big focus on stopping the other team play, works alot on set pieces (including throwins - seen him get really frustrated at his team for not setting up correctly at these, both on and off the ball). Will not be one for carrying passengers or the arm round the shoulder (I was actually terrified of him - but I know many think highly of him as a bloke). Demands a shift from everyone, especially defensively.”

    This is encouraging.

What a complete waste of time.  “No shit” is the obvious response to that article.  An exercise in stating the blindingly obvious.

Yeah, but at least they made a bit of an effort and spoke to a former player...

The articles that just rip off quotes from the official site are worse.

It wouldn't take much in the way of resources - a phone and a bit of imagination and a young reporter looking to make a name for themselves as a sports reporter - to get a fresh Latics story out every day.

Unimpressed with the Oldham Times' Latics coverage.  Three articles in the last four weeks.  Nothing on Baxter signing or Wellens leaving (other than several days later in the article linked above).  The Chron seems to have more coverage but tends to be rehashes of official site articles.  The MEN seems to have had more interesting stories on the whole.

Lee Sinnott's my main source of news these days.

    Ffs I’m 50.

i haven’t missed the point at all.

Race is a massive issue in Oldham, that is very clear . Just looking at the away support at ?Northampton, the was not a single Asian face - such a shame,

any pisstaking of  women or homosexuals is wrong, in the footballing environment it just reinforces the idea of the dick head supporter which we aren’t !

Im not a wind up merchant, just an intelligent person that stands up to people who spout shite

You must be good at standing up to yourself so.

    NOt  even funny guys.

    Back to the 1970s

there are serious issues  which we can’t joke about.

    Grow up

I wasn’t joking or trying to be funny.

I know what decade it is and I am 41. I’ve grown up.

If you miss the point as spectacularly as I think you have, I’m sorry for you.

If you are a wind up merchant, you need to find new things in life to do.

Where viable has it been stated he’s been sounded out or not interested?

i agree Sinnott usually spot on but all he’s said is he had a meeting with AL - Clarkr is the team captain and an employee - hardly sensational he’s been seen at the club

I’m going off what Lee says - but  he certainly seems to know his stuff.
