  1. I can't see the average, or even above average, League Two player expecting wages in the £40k bracket, or transfer fees rocketing because of it. You may get every player in the lower leagues wanting to play for Notts County and, depending on their progress, players from the Championship. These players will want a fast buck and who can blame them. However, it's the consequences of the 'sugar daddy' leaving the club in the sh*t when they fail to extricate themselves from league 2 or League 1, and that is a real possibility when the club and players of the ilk of Campbell etc create a media circus like we recently witnessed. They need to buy the relevant players to get them out of League 2, then ditto for league 1 and then take it from there. It is possible if done sensibly, but sensibility doesn't exist in this 'want it now!' climate. Jealous of their new-found wealth? Yes! Will it turn out for the best for Notts County? No! Would I want it for the Latics. Heart says yes, head says no.
  2. Perhaps the Asians don't want pay good money to watch football in a run-down sh*thole, just like many of the stay-aways.
  3. Firstly, well done to the Latics for making it three on the bounce, hopefully we can get a good result against Yeovil. A good post, I've only highlighted your negative bit because a million fans up and down the nation say this week in, week out. As others have already said, at least we are there to create the chances, which is preferable to not creating the chances in the first place. We look to be improving and that alone is grounds for optimism.
  4. A great result, given that we were wondering were the wins would come from. It could have been more, going off the report and well done to the 'keeper and defence for keeping another clean sheet. It will be interesting to read the views from the fans that made the trip.
  5. That's just a cut-and-paste job from an article used last season. All they had to do was drop Dave Penney's name in where required.
  6. And yet another season descends into chaos! New manager, virtually a new squad and the same old problems. The curse of Boundary Park.
  7. Fantastic reply, Harry and it should be pinned up there, with a 'moan filter' that re-directs them to your post. Mid-table will be acceptable, as it is much more preferable to fighting relegation. Albeit without the 'excitement'. It is absolutely ludicrous for anybody to be looking for the manager's head to roll. We haven't even started to gel yet, which is proving elusive because of the inconsistency in players' availability. We need patience and more patience to achieve stability in playing staff and management and that needs to come from fans and directors alike. Why anybody would shell out to go to a match then sit there and moan all game...well, do it once, maybe...but why keep on doing it?
  8. Maybe, if we managed to get the same team out for consecutive matches, you know...barring injuries and new signings etc. The only consistency has been in the centre of defence and look where that's got us! You never know, we may even get a run going that allows the team to actually gel together, eventually. So, it was Gregan's turn to drop the bollock tonight. Big surprise!
  9. Great topic! Pure entertainment from the 'neutral's' point of view. BRF, you've certainly got a shilling on yourself, haven't you? In fact, lets change 'BRF' to 'WUM', shall we. Corporal Jones. Do you have to go on and on and on..........ad infinitum. Just where are these mythical, big-money backers going to appear from? It just ain't going to happen to the Latics because we are a small club, from a small town with a small fan base, who just happened to punch above their weight for a few seasons. If Oldham Athletic was the World's oldest club, it would have been us receiving the backing of a Middle East consortium instead of Notts County. Investors with the serious money will always look for the maximum publicity angle and I'm afraid that there is no such angle with Oldham Athletic. The 'glory days' and the 'pinch-me season' that you so obviously hanker for are never coming back and being footballing has-beens is not going to attract any backers with pots of money. Some people would rather just moan their way through a season instead of watching the game for what it really is. If you don't like whats on offer, then don't go.
  10. HARDY: What you smiling at, Alex? FERGUSON: We got 80 million for Ronaldo...and he's sh*t!
  11. I'll second that....just for the hell of it!
