  1. I can't see the average, or even above average, League Two player expecting wages in the £40k bracket, or transfer fees rocketing because of it. You may get every player in the lower leagues wanting to play for Notts County and, depending on their progress, players from the Championship. These players will want a fast buck and who can blame them. However, it's the consequences of the 'sugar daddy' leaving the club in the sh*t when they fail to extricate themselves from league 2 or League 1, and that is a real possibility when the club and players of the ilk of Campbell etc create a media circus like we recently witnessed. They need to buy the relevant players to get them out of League 2, then ditto for league 1 and then take it from there. It is possible if done sensibly, but sensibility doesn't exist in this 'want it now!' climate. Jealous of their new-found wealth? Yes! Will it turn out for the best for Notts County? No! Would I want it for the Latics. Heart says yes, head says no.
  2. Perhaps the Asians don't want pay good money to watch football in a run-down sh*thole, just like many of the stay-aways.
  3. Firstly, well done to the Latics for making it three on the bounce, hopefully we can get a good result against Yeovil. A good post, I've only highlighted your negative bit because a million fans up and down the nation say this week in, week out. As others have already said, at least we are there to create the chances, which is preferable to not creating the chances in the first place. We look to be improving and that alone is grounds for optimism.
  4. A great result, given that we were wondering were the wins would come from. It could have been more, going off the report and well done to the 'keeper and defence for keeping another clean sheet. It will be interesting to read the views from the fans that made the trip.
  5. That's just a cut-and-paste job from an article used last season. All they had to do was drop Dave Penney's name in where required.
  6. And yet another season descends into chaos! New manager, virtually a new squad and the same old problems. The curse of Boundary Park.
  7. Fantastic reply, Harry and it should be pinned up there, with a 'moan filter' that re-directs them to your post. Mid-table will be acceptable, as it is much more preferable to fighting relegation. Albeit without the 'excitement'. It is absolutely ludicrous for anybody to be looking for the manager's head to roll. We haven't even started to gel yet, which is proving elusive because of the inconsistency in players' availability. We need patience and more patience to achieve stability in playing staff and management and that needs to come from fans and directors alike. Why anybody would shell out to go to a match then sit there and moan all game...well, do it once, maybe...but why keep on doing it?
  8. Maybe, if we managed to get the same team out for consecutive matches, you know...barring injuries and new signings etc. The only consistency has been in the centre of defence and look where that's got us! You never know, we may even get a run going that allows the team to actually gel together, eventually. So, it was Gregan's turn to drop the bollock tonight. Big surprise!
  9. Great topic! Pure entertainment from the 'neutral's' point of view. BRF, you've certainly got a shilling on yourself, haven't you? In fact, lets change 'BRF' to 'WUM', shall we. Corporal Jones. Do you have to go on and on and on..........ad infinitum. Just where are these mythical, big-money backers going to appear from? It just ain't going to happen to the Latics because we are a small club, from a small town with a small fan base, who just happened to punch above their weight for a few seasons. If Oldham Athletic was the World's oldest club, it would have been us receiving the backing of a Middle East consortium instead of Notts County. Investors with the serious money will always look for the maximum publicity angle and I'm afraid that there is no such angle with Oldham Athletic. The 'glory days' and the 'pinch-me season' that you so obviously hanker for are never coming back and being footballing has-beens is not going to attract any backers with pots of money. Some people would rather just moan their way through a season instead of watching the game for what it really is. If you don't like whats on offer, then don't go.
  10. HARDY: What you smiling at, Alex? FERGUSON: We got 80 million for Ronaldo...and he's sh*t!
  11. I'll second that....just for the hell of it!
  12. You are beginning to sound like a broken record! I have tried reading all your posts, but can't seem to get over this fixation you have with the so-called level of "small-time" existence. So what? Are you seriously expecting a club the size of Oldham Athletic to ever compete with relatively near-neighbours such as Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Everton, Wigan, Leeds and even Bolton? Our catchment area is not significant enough to warrant a large-capacity stadium and, if by some sheer miracle, we get back into the Championship and the Premiership, the capacity can be extended. Why should OAFC build a stadium with, say, a capacity of 18,000, only to have it hold around 5,000 supporters every other week and having an atmosphere like a biscuit tin? Why should the Directors throw good money after bad at the club, in attempt to get Latics higher up the leagues, when the people of Oldham respond with apathy and decide to sit in front of the goggle box, preferring to watch the big fish instead? For OAFC to raise themselves above the level of the "Rochdales, Stockports and Burys of this world", we would need significant investment from a source other than the ones we have now. I don't see that happening. Do you? Oldham Athletic does not seem to have the good fortune in that department that the likes of Wigan, Fulham, Notts County etc. have had. We are a third-tier club. With a good season and a bit of luck, we could become a second-tier club, but I'll tell you now, the crowds won't increase by much because Oldham just doesn't have the fan base and we would struggle to make an impact. Add to that, entertainment streams, which have increased greatly since we graced the top two flights, plus the changing dynamics of small-town Oldham. All have made a significant impact on the sport in the area. This new stadium is a definite step in the right direction and I'm sure any loyal Latics fan would not begrudge traveling a few extra miles for the luxury of sitting in a good stadium, with good facilities and all the attendant benefits that go with it. It would also represent a better chance of increasing attendances than the current run-down shack we call home. The Directors are open to any suggestions of a viable alternative but it is obvious that OAFC can not hang around on this one. The groundwork for this site has been laid and progress needs to made. I, for one, am under no illusions that if this venture fails, OAFC will eventually disappear into the dark recesses of non-league football, being played out in a crumbling edifice of a ground, or even worse, go out of business. Where will the "hardcore fans" be then? Where will you be? One more thing, look at this picture of BP what more incentive to move could anyone need? Thanks for posting your report, sheridans_world, you've obviously put a great deal of work into it and it is much appreciated.
  13. It's called 'Business Acumen'. Something in which we seem to be lacking, at the moment.
  14. And we, reportedly, got £350,000 for Eardley. Just think what a Million could do....
  15. I can't believe we're moaning about a player at another club.
  16. It's those little details again that let the club down. I know you are taking the p**s out of the comp slip and envelope, but these little details are the public image of the club and should be adhered to at all times. It shows they care. Nobody likes a cheapskate.
  17. Just bloody ignore 'em, Ackey, you've got a daunting task on your hands.
  18. Appreciate your sentiment, but at least it's a positive claptrap!
  19. He will be better off at Chester, away from all the moaning gits! The Latics fans' system: "Great young kid in the ressies, bangin' 'em in for fun! We should get him in the first team, coz that shower of :censored:e we have at the moment can't score for toffee!" Young player gets his chance, seems to be developing a good partnership with strike-partner, gets dropped, comes back, scores a hat-trick, inexplicably gets dropped again as a raft of ageing loanees and has beens are given their 'last chance saloon' at BP, and the young player gets restricted to 5 or 10 minute cameos here and there. "Get rid! He can't score for toffee!" "Now, that whatsisname in the ressies, he's bangin' 'em in for fun! Get him in the first team....."
