  1. http://www.cu-fc.com/page/News/0,,10424~1758963,00.html As Lambert resigned, does that mean Norwich won't now have to pay the Compo? Sneaky from Lambert if that is the case!
  2. Shame those 279 fans can't all attend BP and sit/stand near each other and bring a bit of atmosphere to BP...reckon it would boost the players no end
  3. Just noticed this guy scored on his debut for Bury - on loan until January 3rd. If memory serves me right he scored on his one and only game for us against Port Vale (Wolfy scored too I think) before getting Injured I do believe he got done for drink driving or knocking someone down when speeding I think...no idea if he went prison, would suit Oldham I think.
  4. Missed a last minute penalty!!!! I normally dont laugh at others misfortune!!!
  5. Wonder if Lewi will go to Chester now that they have been cleared to play on saturday?

  9. Hopefully the fans who went to Brunton park last night can comment on how biased/truthful this is..................??? Carlisle United 1 Oldham Athletic 0: The rumble of negative publicity at Carlisle United was temporarily halted last night. Three things, to be precise, put a timely skip back in the dejected step of the Cumbrian masses. Firstly, Scott Dobie – one of United’s trio of maligned frontmen – accounted for Oldham Athletic with the most clinical of finishes, and in the process swatted talk of Carlisle’s goalscoring troubles to the boundary for an evening. Secondly, Carlisle’s defenders mustered a clean sheet after shedding 12 goals in their last four games, a record which prompted Greg Abbott to mount his own verbal rearguard against the criticism heading their way. Thirdly, and maybe most pointedly on a night which saw another United player head for the departure lounge, Oldham proved that a summer trolley-dash through the aisle of lower division players isn’t always a route to instant success. A quick tot-up before last night’s Carling Cup tie revealed the Latics to have welcomed 14 new bodies into Boundary Park since the end of the 2008/9 campaign. It was as if the Gods had hand-picked the most recruitment-heavy opponents for Carlisle in order to show up their own recent pattern of waving off players and not replacing them. Well, the name of Cleveland Taylor, whose impending move to Brentford was the talk of Brunton Park last night, was on slightly fewer lips by close of play. This was because Abbott’s re-jigged team performed quite capably without the winger and were clear value for their first round victory against Dave Penney’s patchwork army. If this triumph only chased away the dark clouds for a short while - United’s squad, without Taylor, now looks even more desperately sparse than it did 24 hours ago - then at least it did so with a level of conviction. This was not a glitzy performance; not a display that carried heaps of artistic merit. But Carlisle got the job done. After their false-start in the league three days earlier, to have asked for much more would have been a shade gluttonous. The most notable statistic to commit to print today is Oldham’s shots-on-target tally: one. Chris Taylor’s 82nd minute drive, athletically pushed away by Lenny Pidgeley, was the first and last time Penney’s team troubled the Cumbrian target. In part, this was down to the generally unconvincing nature of the Latics’ forward play. Yet it was equally due to Carlisle’s own resolve, a return to the tough defensive values which fled town while Brentford were cuffing the Cumbrians 3-1 on the season’s opening day. Mercifully, United were tighter, more urgent in their play, and - it seemed from here - more interested in the business of winning an unglamorous cup tie than Oldham, whose fluorescent yellow shirts didn’t conceal the drabness of much of their work. Tom Taiwo, Carlisle’s teenage loanee from Chelsea, set an aggressive tone throughout and his scavenging midfield play enabled Carlisle’s attackers to reach for their range. They almost did so in the 13th minute, when the recalled Marc Bridge-Wilkinson fed Matty Robson down the left, only for Dobie to nod the winger’s perfect cross down the throat of Oldham’s ‘keeper, Dean Brill. More rapid Cumbrian surges saw Taiwo helped Dobie supply Bridge-Wilkinson for an off-target shot from the edge of the box. Then, after the Stamford Bridge youngster twice thwarted Darren Byfield in Carlisle territory, Abbott’s men sped downfield and carved another chance for Bridge-Wilkinson, who diverted Robson’s cross just wide at the near post. Oldham were not without their spells of possession - or their own aggressive intent, as Sean Gregan waged physical war on Dobie whenever the ball was airborne - but they could not fashion anything to worry Pidgeley. Instead, Carlisle continued to press, and nearly went ahead in the 33rd minute when Joe Anyinsah won a corner and Graham Kavanagh bent in a telling set-piece, only for Richard Keogh’s brave diving header to bounce back off the post. United’s football rarely stirred the senses but after the break they remained the most likely scorers: Kavanagh blasting against the outstretched leg of Gregan, Livesey putting an off-balance header just wide, and then Bridge-Wilkinson blazing wastefully over after bustling through Oldham’s offside trap and onto Taiwo’s lofted pass. Penney’s response just after the hour was to replace two new strikers - Byfield and Chris O’Grady - with another brace of fresh recruits in the shape of Pawel Abbott and Keigan Parker. Such a dramatic influx of faces cannot be expected to lead to instant cohesion. So it proved, even if the double substitution briefly disturbed the game’s natural order. Briefly, Oldham threatened to hustle something out of the game, notably when Danny Whitaker charged down an Ian Harte clearance and Abbott swung the rebound over the bar; and then when the Latics leapt on a poor Kavanagh pass and organised a chance for Taylor to run at David Raven, which led to Pidgeley’s solid save. But Abbott’s decision to ask Gary Madine to occupy Oldham’s defenders from the bench was also paying a dividend, the teenager’s presence unsettling the experienced Reuben Hazell while Dobie continued his skirmish with Gregan, his West Brom team-mate in a former life. The prelude to United’s winner was an 85th minute run from Taiwo to the byline, which led to a tidy low cross and an off-target finish from Anyinsah. Three minutes later, the Blues finally worked the trick. Madine switched play to Anyinsah, the ex-Preston man stumbled through a challenge, Raven arrived down the right to ping over a terrific cross, and Dobie soared above Hazell to bury the header. It all looked deceptively simple, which you can bet it won’t be when Carlisle trot down to Millwall this weekend in a bid to put some league points on the table (the Lions, it’s worth noting, whacked Bournemouth 4-0 last night on the back of a decent draw at Southampton). Few victories will come easily to Carlisle this season, plainly. Nor will a sense of public contentment quickly return to the terraces until United’s high command start putting some flesh on the bones of a shrinking squad. One victory doesn’t splash colour across a barren landscape. But Carlisle did display a pleasing tenacity when it was most required last night. They are duly applauded. LENNY PIDGELEY: Only one shot to save and dealt with it well. Looked confident but rarely came under pressure. DAVID RAVEN: Terrific cross for Dobie's winner and a steady defensive effort. IAN HARTE: Looked up for the battle and minimised Oldham's threat down the right. DANNY LIVESEY: Did what was needed to contain Latics' limited threat. RICHARD KEOGH: Strong performance and unlucky not to score in first half. TOM TAIWO: Teenager put Oldham to shame with his spirit and aggression in midfield. GRAHAM KAVANAGH: Mixed bag of passing from the veteran as he returned to orthodox midfield role. MATTY ROBSON: Couple of fine crosses, stronger in first half than second. JOE ANYINSAH: Looks more capable on the wing than down the middle, even if end product was inconsistent. MARC BRIDGE-WILKINSON: Tried to make things happen, should have done better when put through in second half. SCOTT DOBIE: Didn't shirk from combat with Gregan and came out on top with fine winning goal.
  10. Would love Trotman on loan but can't see it happening
  11. Really hope Byfield scores, doesn't seem to be much of a potent threat though, more huffing and puffing. Carlisle sound poor if Ian Harte is having the better of their chances!
  12. So Chaddy, I'd be interested to know what Lewi's thoughts are on not going to Chester and coming off the bench on Saturday?
  13. Whats the material like? Does it last? Thinking of getting them for my 11 a side team
