  1. Biggest home crowd for many a year and we :censored: it up!

Typical Latics, although you can't say you didn't get value for money...

Exactly. It was a great game. We lost to a very debatable penalty, an own goal, and a wonder strike. At the same time, we played some good stuff and looked fairly threatening. I think we were just beaten by a slightly more organised team, just a shame that team was Rochdale.

I can see Shez approaching the Burton game in a similar way to last week at Brammall Lane - accept the chances of winning will be slim, and put the effort into a must-win home game against Chesterfield. Play like we did today against Chesterfield and we'll have a good chance of getting the win.

  2. They've been better run than us for a while. They accept they're a selling club but still try and build a stable team with a stable manager. No surprise they've gone from 30-odd years in L2, to two promotions and a play off final in the last ten years or so since Hill first arrived.

Their list of ex-players who've moved up the leagues for decent money shows why they've done so well. Lambert, Holt, O'Grady, Dagnall, Dawson, Hogan, Murray etc.

  3. exactly this, the fans that pay money to go and watch deserve a team that at least gives it a go

I can see the reasons behind the team selection, but I still expect whoever's playing to put the effort in. I'm not sure that was there from some of the players today = especially Wilson, Forte, Jones today. We made it far too easy for Sheff U, and definitely made them look more organised than they probably really were. I don't get to see Latics often, so to turn up and see that performance is pretty disappointing.

If we win on Tuesday, then we can forget about today. If not, then Sheridan's gamble has backfired and we've been hammered for no reason. His comments after the Port Vale game (he'd prefer 1 win and 1 defeat to 2 draws) were refreshing, but I didn't think that would mean he'd practically concede a game before kickoff.

  4. Kilkenny on loan the 2nd time around was quite a coup.

Furman was quite a big signing too.

    Probably one of them two.

Your sig has reminded me of Pawel Abbott - I was quite surprised we'd got him, and he might be one of the only recent examples of a striker with a decent record that actually did a decent job for us.

  5. so, is this the last loan signing. Are we maxed out? we're still a bit thin in midfield.

If anything we might have a bit more balance. Forte/Croft/Poleon as wingers, Murphy/Cassidy/Main/Holloway upfront, and Kelly/Jones/Winch/Palmer in midfield.

Sheridan was saying we'll need a full squad with a few Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday weeks coming up, and we've definitely got options now. Any 4 or 5 of those players could be on the bench too, so we'll have options to change things around.

  6. Why would they bother coming over to a load of fans throwing pelters at them? To clap a crowd slagging you off? That's a bit pointless isn't it...

    NEXT.

to show appreciation for travelling to an away game?

    to show that they care?

to apologise for another poor performance?

it's just another thing to add to the list of reasons why fans are losing the faith.

  7. I thought the rules were changed a few years back that meant you couldn't charge away fans more than home fans?

But in Latics defence, it's still £22 on the day for home fans, and if you're coming from Southend to Oldham on a tuesday night, the price isn't going to be a factor. Charging £22 or £5 won't change the amount they bring.

  8. Just spotted that we've only won when he has scored this season. It's probably not even a correlation, nevermind a causation but don't think we've gone this far into a season where one player has scored in all our victories.

Then again it's not even like we've had many of those.

Had a look on soccerbase at his stats. He's played 111 times apparently, and I think the Middlesborough game this season is the only game he's scored for us and we've lost. Not a bad record to be honest. He scores in bursts though, and will then go a while without a goal.

  9. Rather have a Forte on the left but he is doing a job, does he have any goals/assists yet?

I can think of a cross for Mills against Bradford?

It's good if he's improving, but whenever I've seen him, he'll get the ball in space and then tip-toe up to the defender and miss the chance for a cross.

  10. This is the worst for me. Haven't made the effort to travel to a game in ages. This is partly down to having other commitments, but it's also that I can't help thinking what a long way and what a lot of money it is for, in all likelihood, another dreadfully dull Latics performance.

When chatting about football with mates and colleagues, they'll ask "So who have Oldham got on Saturday then?" and half the time I can't answer.

This is similar to where I'm at. I'm in my third year of uni and I've always co-ordinated my visits home with a Latics home game over the past 2 years. This year, I've actually been looking for when we're playing away before I book a train back.

I think for me, I've always been hopeful that once we find the right manager and give him time, we'll have a good chance of getting promoted, or at least challenging. This year has finally made me realise how far away that is. I used to look at teams who changed their managers all the time and be glad that Latics tended to stick by their manager, but 4 managers in a year and god knows how many loanees is demoralising. The Rochdale game was my first game in about a month, and there were 6 new players in the squad that I'd not seen. I'm definitely losing interest.

  11. Our midfield looked weak but we didnt use it and they went over or around it so we could have had anyone in there...

We were awful, end of...anybody whose glass is half full after that needs to take a long hard luck. We were lucky, 2 cleared off line and they missed an open goal.

We made an old overweight keeper make one save...a simple one at that.

What annoys me is that there were lower league teams running their balls off all over the country today...some getting wallaped and some winning. I saw 8/9 players who simply couldnt care less..which is how ill feel when it comes to deciding whether to go to the replay.

Right now, id happily never watch them again

didn't go, but surely only having one central midfielder playing will be why they hit it long. Especially with Fuller and Higdon up top.

Might not have played well, but hopefully Kelly and Jones will be back for the replay, and maybe one or two others. The replay will be the best chance of turning the crap home form around in a while.
