  1. I can't see any harm in the trannies being on here, to be fair to them they could be on here gloating but they have kept it respectful.

I agree, there is enough crap and negativity in the modern game as it is. Without people being over sensitive about a fan of a different team being on this site offering a different view on things. I welcome it.

  2. The BBC have always been like this! Even back in the glory years we hardly got a mention or a look in. Maybe 2 mins on Match of the Day if we were lucky. The rest of the time was filled up with Sir Trevor I talk BOLLOCKS Brooking and his love of West Ham! The only people that mentioned us and stuck up for us was Des Lynam and Alan Hansen. I don't think he liked us because we used to stuff his beloved West Ham.

  3. Only caught the second half. But so far I think we have better attack minded players than last season. We were better going forward than last season.

The defence still scares me. Especially when Cisak, M'voto or Tarky loose concentration. They have got to be more focused than they were tonight. This was there problem last season.

  4. I was going to write a long article on TTA failures etc… but let;'s be honest we've been round that way before. So what do we do? I'm not happy to sit back and allow the club to continue as the joke it currently is. The onfield stuff is immaterial, it's time serious questions were asked just where Corney sees this club heading.

The Trust as we know is a lame duck that will not get into the issues or ask the questions we want answering so what do we do? Sit on our hands and say there's nothing we can do? Walk away? Or try to force the club to be sold to ownership that can move the club forward. There's interest, I know there has been last summer but the asking price was ridiculous!

So what do we do? Because the way I see it there's no stomach for a fight left amongst our fanbase. We need galvanising into action, it's probably already too late and I fear the fanbase will simply sit back and do what they did when the town allowed ORLFC to die. If there's no desire to see the club move forward, what's the point?

I sat there yesterday and in the second half barely said a word, After watching the club for 26 seasons, I just feel resigned to our fate and feel so :censored:ing helpless. If there's no desire to help the club move on from the disaster that has been TTA ownership, then I really do think this might be my last season - certainly for home games anyway.

This is a good point and there have been times when I have felt like this especially this season and having to resort to YOUTUBE to remember how good we once were.

But to be fair I feel both Simon Corney and Paul Dickov are doing the best they can in a bad situation.

In Simon's case he is doing the best he can, that the other board members need to step up and help him. Also the the off field staff need to step up and show some initiative in that the club cares about its dwindling fanbase.

If Mike Newton is not on the board for investment, then what is he there for? This was the man who was trying to take over Stockport and Port Vale last year, why is he not investing in Latics?

As opposed to regular visits to the training ground.

As for Dickov right now managing this club with budget and players at his disposal is like asking somebody to make a camp fire with nothing else but 2 wet twigs.

  5. Calm down, we've never been flush. The only time Latics have had some money to throw around is when we failed to go up and quickly went bankrupt.

The subtext to the DICKOV OUT shout is the question of responsibility - in this age it is far easier and quicker to ask that question. The Penney situation is cruelly similar however in that instance people would be falling over each other to throttle the life out of him just for losing the toss.

We all understand the concept of bedding in and giving him time, and the elements of this together with no money, bargain hunting: so-called "cutting the cloth", unfortunately increases the risk of relegation for clubs like Oldham Athletic. We should get used to this way of life, and if we drop it will just be the same in L2.

Hey, on the bright side Latics still have 44 games to turn the ship around, my point is though - desensitise: expect a lot of the above posts....

Penney had a much bigger squad to work with than Dickov, also sent a few players who maybe should of got a chance, out on loan and he had 3 owners money to spend rather than 1, who does not have a lot to invest, apparently.

  6. They put it out to encourage fans, the problem when it doesn't happen people go mad. Glad we agree about Dickov, now is not the time to jump on his back.

Exactly its still too early to be calling for the managers head. I was not attacking anyone, just joining in the debate. I just wish at times, the club would think before putting stuff out there for fans to read.

Also I wish there was more transparency between club and fans.

But that's a debate for another time?

  7. Said we were chasing one, and we were sometimes you get sometimes you don't.

I kinda get what saying, but not the way you said it.

But all I am saying is the club should not be putting statements out there, unless its set in stone or they can fulfil there statement.

I would rather they go about there business quietly until they can seal the deal.

Anyway the problem is not Dickov, its higher up and goes further back, before Dickov came here.

  8. we've only sold one player! i'll just point out thats another 2 and a half weeks until end of the window, plenty of time to spend that money. Its already been said on here that we've been messed about by strikers - porter agreed to join then didnt.. donaldsons agent saying ridiculous numbers.. norwich wanting to much for cody mc.. stiker in talks last week going on alot longer than expected.. wtf you expect latics to do about that? us to desperate buy anyone? rather see us wait instead of getting someone in a panic buy.

I know that, but its the same rhetoric, every season, "We are not going to sell players on the cheap." and we do.

"Money will go back into the club on transfers" and it doesn't.

There was that story on the OS about getting a top class striker and then that went quiet.

All I am saying don't make statements you can't back up! Because that's just very misleading to the fans, when they fail to deliver on them.

As the saying goes, "Don't let your mouth write a cheque that your ass can't cash."

  9. we're not a badly run club though, the owners just arent saying yea we'll spend 90% or more of turnover on wages

yeah we're losing money each year, but we're in a better situation than other clubs

But in the same respect, this is same board who said in the summer, firstly we won't be selling our top players on the cheap and the money on the players sold will be spent on buying new players.

What happened to that then?(probably all used to pay off Feeney)

  10. It's not just 2 league games for him, he had all last season as well and we finished a lot lower than we should have done. If you say it was due to injuries, he's then decided this season to get quote 'a smaller squad with better quality'. In other words the average wage is probably higher than last year and the players aren't even better! How can you say that is good management?

To be honest, I don't blame Dickov for our current plight. He is a good manager at a badly runned club. He has been given no money to invest in the team.

He has had to cut his cloth accordingly.

Strikers who can find the net, outside the penalty spot don't come cheap!

If you want to vent your frustration, email Hardy and co!

  11. This has been coming for three years. A plan could have been in place for a worst case scenario, instead the fanbase and Trust are as further apart than they ever have been and why the club is destined to go down the :censored:ter. Why? Many of us have been accused of being doom and gloomers and trouble causers when questioning the motives and the direction the club was going in. All fight has turned to complete apathy - certainly in my case anyway, earlier in the season and last season I was willing to start a protest group to show the depth of feeling there still was for the club. I was shouted down and pretty much told any campaign would be ineffective. I was sent a text by a true fan on Friday asking was I willing to fight for the club, you know what? I haven't replied yet as I'm unsure whether i've got the desire to wade into this sea of bull:censored: we're enduring from boardroom level. I'll be there supporting the team until the end of the season but after that who knows. Is it really worth this? The warnings have been there, people have finally realised what this was all about in the first place but there are still too many with their heads in the sand.

As Lags says, time for a complete overhaul. Sell the club and land and admit defeat, rightly or wrongly the club has been run into the ground and the entire board should walk away, those employed by the club on the board should be sacked for long-term incompetence after over-seeing this abject failure. Yes, there has been some issues that have been out of the club's control but let's be honest if it wasn't for the desire to claw back losses we'd at least have some sort of stand on the Broadway side of the ground.

Administration may be a silver lining in a very dark cloud hanging over the club if it gets rid of the millstone around the club's neck. If the club goes bust then so be it, the existence that awaits us beyond this season will be non-league within two or three years anyway. The fans have deserted the club, but I don't blame most of them. When the die-hards have gone, en masse it is for much more than for footballing reasons. Not once have the club sought to find out why attendances have dropped so dramatically and the arrogance around tomorrow night's fixture is laughable and the club will indeed be a national laughing stock with no fans behind the goal in the RRE. Another of a procession of decisions that demonstrate complete apathy towards the fans from the people running the club.

This club is my life and has been for 25 years, but like many others the failures, false promises and excuses eat away at you before something finally snaps. I've been on the edge for the last three or four years yet only missed two or three home games in that time. But gradually my own apathy has grown. The team up until February has been a joy to watch this year but yet again the off-field crap kills everything off. It's one time too many for me. Fractured fanbase, dilapidated ground, clueless board and to top it all a team top-heavy with loanees and short-term stop gaps. We're not Oldham Athletic anymore we're a team of make do and mend. I could cope with this philosophy under Ritchie as the lads who were losing every week were OUR lads, not kids from other clubs underachieving.

I simply can't be arsed fighting for the status quo, if there's a chance of real change, bring it on. If not stick yer season ticket next season…..

Once again Prozac, you have read my mind, and pretty much nailed what I have been feeling about latics, the fanbase and the town. Thats why I have not been on here for a while. I've just gone past caring, if its not the happy-clappy make do merchant group of fans, trying to shout you down, its the short sightedness of the people running the club, who expect fans to pay £20, to watch a club situated in a town that is dieing on its knees where half the population is out of work or £20 is a lot to spend every other week. Then theres the council of the town who seem to lack ambition and seem only able to have the ability and interest to build houses and mosque's. I said a few weeks ago to my family that I would be surprised if we manage to stay in business in 2 years time. I've changed that to I would be happy if we stayed in business next season even if we start with -10 points.

  12. Football's gone mad.

:censored: or not 13 games is not enough. I don't doubt after 30 he'd be equally :censored: but that's not the point.

I have to agree with Lookers Carl on this one.

If our board had the balls to sack Penney when he needed to be sacked, we would still have a fan base and I would not be in the mess we are now in finacially.

  13. He was wrong for Latics.

But I still find it odd how people heap vitriol and abuse on him. If he had deliberately done the club harm then fair enough. But he didn't.

Sorry, don't agree with you. He brought all that abuse on himself with the statements he made at the beginning of last season, only to serve up the shower of :censored: that was his style of football.

I hope he takes the player's he brought in that are transfer listed with him! :ranting:

    Worst manager since Sharp!

  14. Im sure i read corney saying there is nothing going on wrt sale of the club in the chron last week.Who,in their right mind,(apart from a fan)is going to toss £££££££££££££££££££££££££ down the kazi to save oldham athletic?

We are skint, america is skint, the country is skint. The only country with $$$ is china.

In short, its a load of bollocks.

Did you see the SC interview on PLAYER, this week? Where he said negotiations are ongoing in regards to the finances of the club. That he had a few irons in the fire.

  15. The damage has been done over a number of years – but IMO last season’s ‘product’ was the final straw for a large number of previous ‘diehards’. In a crumbling ground; with little atmosphere – having to watch the dross that was served up week in; week out broke many.

Regardless of how well the playing side is currently playing; many are not coming back......it’s those fans that have caused the attendance drops. The ones from the glory days are long gone; and have proved time & time again that no matter what state the club is in; or how well the team is playing; they won’t come back. Our gates from say 2 years ago were what; around 5,500 – 6,000 and today we’re looking at around 4,000 currently. It’s those fans we need to come back; the recently departed, not the 8,000 or so who used to call themselves Oldham fans back in 1990. (Yes; we obviously ideally would like them back; but realistically that just isn’t going to happen). The only problem is with trying to get those 1500-2,000 back is that; what can we actually entice them back with? The football is better than last season (& IMO the last season under Shez too) but it’s being served up in a 3-sided; soulless, crumbling archaic ground; in an atmosphere that is hardly encouraging; all played out under a ‘will we / wont we’ stadium move to an area lots of fans don’t want to move to; and with the sub-plot of 2 out of the 3 owners pulling all investment from the club and the ones who remain seemingly intent upon only putting out negative messages & alienating further fans with misjudged comments in the media. With all that going on; it’s just not enough to think better on the pitch performances are going to bring back the recent stay-aways...........
