  1. Anybody but Martin Gray!

What was the point in sacking Dave Penney, if you are going to replace him with the man who was just as much responsible for last seasons nightmare as Dave Penney was!

The Chalton game should have given a very small insight to the Gray management, talked a big game, but only managed 2 shots on target.

  2. he didnt seem to have changed one bit...looks like he still do a better job the the lads we have now

    +1

I agree, the word legend does not say enough about Roger Palmer, million times better than the crap we have now. :imnotworthy:

Seeing that picture of him brought back wonderful memories, he is one of the reason why I started supporting this club.

  3. Bunn, for me because he is Latics through and through!

That's what we need somebody who care's about the club like we do.

Like what they have at Leeds with Grayson.

Gannon would be my second choice based on his track record.

Anything is better than Dave (I am out a job, dont give a monkey's, with my bad signings) Penney! :ranting:

  4. Actually it was my dads viewpoint as in the club 2 days before Andy went and AH just saying OTHER SENIOR PLAYERS letting Andy down with performances and causing issues in dressing room said nothing like you infer. Just was VERY POSITIVE about Andy nowhere did I say FULL support but then again it wasnt NO support. Dad works with 2 ex tics in the know with similar views, who blame someone else for hell of a lot that gets churned up on here. No AH fan by any means but Moore wanted him out others didnt help.

As for strange things... The club would have been out of buisness in early 1960s without my relatives money paying wages, electric bills etc, week in week out, finding houses for players rent free, so its nothing new, doing repairs for free, giving machinery, welding, signwriting etc etc... perhaps you dont know all the right people either.... Yet at the time he got stick for not doing enough. Nowt changes in football other than inflated prices.

I feel Alan Hardy should no longer be at the club, there have been far too many bad things gone on at the club under his role as CEO, I feel he is holding the club back. This was a point I was trying to make last week before I got shot at.

  5. Cut the crap. It was packed because it was from where you could watch the most exciting, attacking team in the country at that time - no exaggeration. It was also great value for money. The owners we have now, finance aside, are the best we've had in my 30 years.

Don't tell me to cut the crap! I agree with you, regards to the owners, having spoke to 2 out of the 3 amigo's, they have come across as being upfront and open with regards to the future of Latics. I would go as far as to say they are most genuine owners the club has had.

But what has annoyed me this season, hence my point, is that this has been the worst latics team in nearly 30 years for results and lack of pride in the shirt, some fans would say its more than that.

Rather than addressing the problem, that the majority of the ambitious fans like myself have pointed out this season, as opposed to the happy clappy tree huging make do minority fans such as yourself or apologised for the bad season like Peterborough's and Walsall's board did amoungst others.

Members of our clubs board such as Alan Hardy and Barry Owen have gone for the lets attack/blame the fans for the clubs faults this season. :ranting:

  6. Agreed all these people come and go, owners, managers even players - the club is the constant and needs your support.

I novel and fantastic idea. I will hold my tongue If I don't agree with what your singing/shouting if we can get BP filled.

You know at the do the other night when they re-ran that seasons games at BP when the chaddy was packed, the young players - okay some may have still been in the womb at the time, did not recognise BP at all with a sea of people in it. What a shock!!!

I hope we can muster a game too, I think we all could do with a good win after todays shocker

That was because we were watching a latics team that cared about the club and took pride in the shirt they played in.

It was also a club that appreciated the fans back then, rather than blaming the fans when things got bad, unlike this season when hardy and co have been happy to do that.

Blame the fans for there mistakes.

  7. What he have to say?

Cracking story that, getting lifts home, yet no-one ever knew where he lived.

I wouldn't mind knowing what Mr Penney had to say, given the relationship between him and most of the fans.

I just hope the current staff at the club that were there from owners down to the players were inspired and realised what could be achieved at this club with continuity and everybody being on the same side. Better realationship with the fans.

  8. Was me debut at one of these do's and I was very impressed. Penney is actually a decent bloke, was speaking to him for quite a while. Penney In.

So, he actually does give a MONKEYS what the fans think?

Sounded like a great evening! The memories of that final and that great team are as though it was yesterday, nevermind 20 years ago.

Walking down Wembley way with my Dad, Grandad and my 3 uncle's.

I hope you took Mr Penney to task about this season?

If you did, I hope he didn't get his book of excuses out?

  9. funnily enough i was just thinkin along the same lines. results and more importantly performances have improved. interestingly the improvement started after the bollocking he got off corney after the brighton match. not saying he has won me over but is there anyone out there starting to change there mind about him?

Where did you hear about that?

  10. Rick Holden. He'd be whipping in so many crosses, the law of averages says we'd be bound to stick at least one of 'em in.

    +1

    I agree!

Rick Holden my childhood hero and one the greatest players to wear a latics shirt!

He could pin point a pass/cross, that even our current goal shy attackers would not miss!

  11. While I agree with that sentiment, I would rather see Penney stick Alessandra up front, because their game will suffer as a result of the barracking they get once they fail to score a hat-trick...or miss a 'sitter' etc., etc.

    Where is Alessandra anyway?

That is a very good point, why is he not being considered as an option?

He scored in the reserves, not too long ago.

  12. This season feels just like the season we were relegated from the Champioship... we sleptwalked to relegation.. too good, we will not go down..but we did it without a fight.. the wiffs are all the same.

I completely agree with this comment.

It has the hallmarks of when we got relegated into this division from the championship.

It could be accussed that the club are preparing for relegation.

Getting rid of our good players for nothing and replacing them with one's from the division below.

A management that is coming up short with ideas on getting out of this situation.

The club playing down the fans concerns.

The club and fans not getting on well.

I remember experiencing something similar during the Sharp/Warnock era.

I have spoke to fans that have supported the club longer than me and have experienced previous relegations

over the years they experienced similar situations arising before the club took the drop down.

  13. I presume that i am looking at your 'canada' status and thinking that you do not have 'experience' of the team/club so far... - or have you moved there in the last week and watched every performance so far? - if not i'm not sure that your statements are particularly valid.

If they are based on comments from here then......... - - - - enjoy your ice hockey!

Like I said in previous post I have supported Latics for over 28 years, I have seen some Fantastic games and have some fantastic memories.

I have also seen my fair share of bad games too.

I have travelled from long distances to see latics, showing my support.

My Dad has been regularly going up to Oldham from Portsmouth, watching home games this season.

I've watched the Leeds game over the internet and could not believe, how gutless the team had become, what a sad sight it was.

My Dad told me that this is how they have been all season.

I also read match reports and fans forums too about latics, so I would like to think I am well informed.

Based on that information I am able to offer a valid opinion.

Even in the bad games before this season, some members of the team were seen to be trying and caring about the shirt they played in.

We had managers who didn't like losing and clearly showed that in post match interviews; there weren’t the stupid excuses that DP keeps dishing out.

I have also had contact with the board and spoke to 1 of the TTA this season, I firmly believe that board and the staff at the club does care and are very committed to make things better in the long term for latics.

But unfortunately at this rate the lack of commitment from the playing side of the club, could be there downfall for future plans.

On this basis alone I think my point and statement is valid.

Like I said in other posts regarding ice hockey at least the coach of my local team has some tactical nous!

Which is more than I can say about Dave Penney!

Can somebody also explain why he has not recalled O'Grady yet and signed yet another midfielder instead?

I thought O'Grady had a 24 hour recall clause in his loan, if needed?

  14. I am normally patient with new managers. But this has gone beyond a joke!

This has to be the worst team in the 28 years I have supported them.

DP signings have been very poor, except Abbott.

Tactics questionable and managerial skills of Mr Penney and his staff have been very bizarre to say the least.

He has no repour with the fans!

I know new managers make unpopular decisions, but they tend to have very good reasons, he doesn't give any reason.

At the end of the day Mr Penney is a conference/league 2 manager at best, as proved at his previous clubs.

I can't help thinking we have got the George W Bush of football management.

Mr Penney your time is up, it’s time for you to go. For the sake of this club!
