Mellon interview. He's quote" thoroughly pissed off." I love him. Slowly the real Scott is emerging. I suspect the players got a right bollocking post match after today.

I'm sure they have already had several bollockings but it doesn't appear to make any difference though, does it? The cynic in me would say something is up between him and the players, the sensible side of me says he hasn't had nearly enough time.

The Walker situation is a complete baffler and why is nothing being said about it? I'm not convinced with Dallas or Conlon [who, it would appear, has signed for the wrong club]. It's a fucking shame about Green but that's the way things roll at Oldham Athletic, unfortunately. With Green and Stones still in the team, I believe performances would be very different.

Mellon is going nowhere and we have live with that.

No criticism of those who came but for the away fans as individuals, attending a game of football isn't an achievement. For the away club as a collective, the away followings are pitiful.

We never used to congratulate small numbers of away fans for going to watch a game when we were in the league. What's changed?

I just find it very, very bizarre.

Could be the 'Big fish in a small pond' syndrome. Some of the clubs with small home attendances must be impressed with Latics' away following, as well as the likes of Chesterfield etc. also it brings in more revenue for their club. I don't see the harm in showing a bit of respect for people who are, after all, fans like any other and willing to travel despite the knowledge they will be sat with a tiny contingency.

Given our home form, I would say a small travelling fan base will take great pleasure in going home with a 'result' against a big name team. I can't get to the games anymore, do we still applaud the away team 'keeper when he goes between the sticks in the home end?

    Not really Dave.

It’s that some people only care about what they see. But that’s not being fan is it?
That’s being wilfully blind to the other 23 games- because you don’t see them.

Of course, a fan only who can only attend the home games is going to care about what they see, especially if what they see is shite because they want to see their team winning games. It doesn't mean they don't appreciate and celebrate the away wins just because they are not there to witness them.

You must appreciate that when the team you support doesn't win at home, the only place you can watch them win and gets the results away from home, then it becomes pretty frustrating as fan and surely raises the point of why bother going to the home matches at all. Season ticket holders have a different conundrum..already paid..go or don't go? Personally, I would go regardless.

Overall though, if the away form does the job and home form, shit as it is, gets the meagre points in addition required to achieve the playoffs, then it doesn't matter where the points come from but you cannot say people who only care about what they see are not fans. They are and they simply want their team to perform and win for them where they can see it.

There really is no way to please all of the people, all of the time.

MM has 9 more games to get it sorted before the play offs

I'm not confident of a win against Aldershot, they are on form, so a draw would probably be a good result. But, this is Latics..

Without Green offering width we look so, so limited and incapable of taking it to teams.

It's the typical Latics misfortune that seems to dog us with player injuries. Must be a hell of a lot of dead black cats around the ground.

What difference does it make how many were there or whether all season tickets are included ?

It doesn't really but I think the gist of the OP is the possibility of non-season-ticket support dwindling, as could be POTD and maybe a reference to the poor home form and general quality of the football being the reason why.

  6. Season tickets have to be shown at the turnstiles, so the attendance should be bodies through the gates and bums on seats. I would say it's nigh on impossible to asses the accurateness of the official attendance figure based on a visual perception of what someone sees from their vantage point..unless it's a drastic exaggeration. I assume attendance figures also include corporate boxes, invited guests etc.

Thanks. Am not a WUM and don’t have several accounts. I just don’t see why Kitching in singled out when Hammond was and has been poor so far.

so he has potential. Great. He presently looks out of his depth

Kitching appears to be regressing in his form [I'm not saying it's permanent], Hammond will most probably get better with coaching, physio and match time. We need players whose skills will develop alongside the experienced players who can pass on their knowledge.

Yeah exactly my opinion , very weak in the tackle and lost several that he should have won. Gets in some good positions but doesn’t know what to do with it when he gets the ball. Lot to prove for me.

Thankfully it's not Unsworth and Co. coaching him, at least he now stands a chance of incremental improvement.

We are in the playoffs, which is where we need to be. 9 games wasted on Unsworth has made that the best case scenario...

Oh I agree on both counts but I would love for the home performances to be on par with away and I think that may put us into second or third, come the end of the season. We can only wait and see.
