When a fan has witnessed football played in blizzarding snow, the lines wiped clear and using an orange ball, then the ridicule at the pampering of today's overpaid players is somewhat understandable. It's a totally different game today and the profile of star players has been elevated.
It is what it is and what someone has never seen, they will never miss. I am fortunate to have witnessed the old regime but also fortunate to watch the game develop into what it is now on a massive widescreen TV, no thicker than a wafer, ultra-hd picture with surround sound and beer on tap. -

As they have done every time since Mellon took over, they've reacted well to a poor performance. And they've still not lost two in a row. Referee was a disgrace...
You have to agree, the poor performances are generally at home, with the 'reactions' away from home. It needs addressing to get us where we need to be.

Brilliant result and from what I read on here, a much better performance, which, as we all know, is exactly what we need at BP. It's totally frustrating, we could be up there with Chesterfield if the home form was as good.
Well done lads. -

The chairman's heroic fundraising efforts has no correlation to the football match played on Saturday. Sometimes, teams don't play well, especially with 11 players on the opposition team going against them. It is frustrating, but it happened up and down the country on Saturday and the season so far has shown that they usually react well after a disappointing display...
I was referring to the actual occasion and the abject failure of the performance because I believe they wilted under the expectation and enormity of what the occasion meant to the supporters and the club. The weather, the fans, the atmosphere..it was a perfect day in waiting..until the players entered the fray and pulled the rug out from under it. By the way, well done Kidderminster for spoiling the party, which, no doubt, was their ultimate aim and to Phil Brown, who masterminded it so well. Mind you, they had a huge helping hand from our team.

We've not lost 2 in a row all season and the team will want to react to the disappointing afternoon on Saturday...
I nearly choked on my biscuit.
They should have fucking reacted on Saturday to a nearly full house. the return of the guy who saved the club and had just done more work rowing the Atlantic than all the players put together, all season.
Sorry Paddy, no offence but it had to be said.**EDIT**
And I'll add to that, a man who is more than twice their age.- 8

Why won’t they? Our home form, dreadful as it is, is good enough to secure a play off spot
I suppose W6 D5 L6 form would be enough if it continues alongside the away form continuing in the same vein. Home form has us currently in 16th, away has us 4th on goal diff to Gateshead.

..so if we keep winning, who cares about the home form? The most important thing is promotion, not home form or which ground you collect the points at.
A team won't win promotion on away wins alone. The home form has to be sorted and points taken at BP as well, which at the moment, would only be improved if they played behind closed doors. Imagine if the pandemic was on now, we would be top of the league.

And?
Do you not support us away from home? Do away games not count?
His away record is fantastic, it’s as simple as that. It’s why we are in playoffs, and while I want home form to pick up. If it doesn’t and we still win away to finish on the playoffs- I couldn’t really care less.
E I E I E O.
Your not going to get 6000 fans paying to watch Latics away, though, so I guess the point BP makes is that the majority of the support base only see the team perform at home and what they are witnessing is not very palatable.
The old adage of "Win at home, draw away gets promotion" has been turned on its head for us. Mind you, if the away form dips as well, then hope of reaching the playoffs will become a distant memory. Mellon has got his wok cut out come the close season, promotion or not.- 1

The occasion and expectation yesterday was far too much for the players, given the home form is not the best. We got the footballing equivalent of erectile dysfunction. It's not going to change anytime soon and if Latics make the playoffs, it will be a huge bonus considering how the season began.

Announced on their website.
Got it.
Not a bad signing for a NL team.
58 goals in 300 matches.Guaranteed to start and be a pain in the ass tomorrow.

They have just signed Jay Emmanuel Thomas. Solid signing
Where have you seen this? I know they have signed Seb Thompson but cannot find anything on Thomas.

We don't need another club in the region going to the wall.
I hope they get something to keep them in existence.- 1

I've just finished reading Tony Bugby's Latics book. We had the goalkeeper Eddie Hopkinson on our books and he played 3 times in 1951/52. That summer he was out of contract and the club "forgot" to offer him a new one so thinking he wasn't wanted he signed for Bolton. He went on to be their record appearance holder and play 14 times for England. File under great Latics cock ups.
So good, you read it twice.

Seen people say on twitter that we haven't actually sold out and the website is broken. Not looked myself though.
If it's on X [formerly known as twitter] then it must be true.

..but there's nothing more certain than a dreadful, piss poor home defeat in front of a sell out full house for Frank's homecoming. It's Latics law..
Precisely the kind of mentality which OAFC fans have to get over and do away with.
It's not just the players who need to change. -
Gateshead 3-0 up already.
Dale doing us a favour. -
Does this one count this time?

That team says to me we're chucking stuff at it and hoping we find something that works better than it has been doing. Or rotating the squad as it's popularly known.
I think that team has picked itself.

Another injury, just what we needed. It's probably been niggling, hence the under-par performances from Kitching.
No striker on the bench again. -

Ok taken on board, Wardie Sometimes when you write it doesn't come across as it would if you were chatting. I find myself editing to try and correct that! There is ridicule though. That poor BP1960 gets slated on here (P.S. I understand he's an old timer too. People should be ashamed of themselves. Blatant bullying, whichever way you look at it).
We all do it, myself included, people read things differently than others..just like opinions. I think BP1960 has a thick enough skin to shrug off any perceived ridicule plus his age and experience stand him in good stead.

I`ve always caveated my views regarding "what I`ve seen". I also played at NPL level with Witton Albion and the Latics (team) remind me very much of that level. Everything else is geared up for success, ground, fans etc.
The "ridicule" as you put it, is not personal, it's more the way you stated your views as being the absolute. If you have only witnessed three matches, whereas many have witnessed most of them in this league, then I would refer to their opinions rather than yours. I haven't seen many myself, I am of the opinion the team is inconsistent and in transition and if any money has been wasted then that was mostly down to Unsworth's appointment and player recruitment, albeit with some assistance.
