  1. We havent though, the only problem I have with sheridan is that he seems incapable of bringing in the happy squad player - we havent sacrificed depth for investment in top players - Hughes, Kalala, Allott & Davies will be on absolutely no more money than Wellens, Porter, Roccy & Warne.... Hughesy should be but he is on less than Porter, I dont agree on the fact we havent replaced with enough quality - I think that arguement is flawed and the players we have brought in are good enough... we just yet again seem to have absolutely no depth...

We absolutely need some average, journeyman, experienced league 1 pro's - the sort that knock about the lower leagues for donkeys years, stepping in when needed, and then going somewhere else - Roccy & Eddie are great examples - but we just dont have that... shez seems to amke comments that he will only improve the squad - great - but you need these fringe players to survive when things get tough like this.... he either seems to annoy these type of players (see Roccy and eddie) or sign turkeys - Dabo, Wood etc etc...

Clubs such as Tranmere, orient, Carlisle etc... have very average players - but have enough of them so they can chop and change if needed - the dont have as good players as us, however have depth so that they can batter us for consistency when our top performenrs get injured - the Trannies have had thier two best players injured for ages - yet are still doing ok...

As I say... nothing to do with replacing quality... we just need more of the average to support messirs Hughes, Davies, Gregan, Jarrett, taylor et al...

Best post I've read for ages.

  2. Leaving aside the argument over whether to sign any player in particular, couldn't this self-defeating cycle continue all the way to oblivion? When even club owners are-allegedly-keen to see money spent on signings but the fans are afraid of any kind of financial risk, how can the club ever progress?

Presumably, if TTA want signings made, they, at least are keen to see us climb and the club's profile increased, realising that it is the only way to attract the missing fans whose absence will, ultimately, be the club's downfall.

But there's a difference between blowing it, simply because it is there, and waiting for the right player to come along.

Admittedly, there's a fine balance to be struck, and getting it right can be very tricky, but given our current position and recent troubles, I'd rather the club tended towards the more cautious view.

  3. ............and as the gates continue to slump the money is there is bleeding rapidly as well.Come the end of the season when the lost revenue on gate receipts are taken into consideration , how much will be there for next season ?

Personally I'd rather not spend it, if spending it would put us in a poorer financial position, and more at risk if TTA ever pull out.

  4. You can't have everything, was just typical defensive header a good head on it and trying to get distance on it.

Safe to say you can see why I haven't played at Sunday League level for year or two!!

I've got it recorded on sky+. If you can figure out how I get it from my sky+ to you, then I'll gladly do it.

  5. I think the problem lies more in making smart decisions, than having stability. Smart decisions will ultimately lead to stability, barring outside events.

Would Talbot have got us promoted, given enough time? Possibly, although promotion back to league one, rather than up out of it, was probably more likely!

  6. I'm on a self impossed year of positivity.

I just think everything around the club is a little boring at the moment, theres very little to debate.

What has happened to Stipey btw?

Bloody hell, possibly the first time I've ever agreed with S_C...

Quite a few I've spoken to (lurkers from jkl mainly) don't like the owtb format - the sign up process seemed ott, and the topic based, rather than thread based, layout.

For me, it's not having any views (excuse the pun) from our rivals. It just seems a bit cliquey at times. I tend to go through phases of activity/inactivity, depending on how fed up or bored I get.

  7. I thought Allott was excellent today, he broke up play and didnt give Yeovil any chance at all in midfield, a really commanding performance from who is know becoming our regular number 1 performer

Allott was my MOM today too. JJ on the other hand was probably our worst player today. He must have passed to a green shirt 70% of the time. Saying that, he got around and put in some good challenges, just wasn't the best on the ball. Can't complain too much though with that result!

  8. I'm happy.

Midfield is where we've been weakest all season, and the two lads brought in should go a long way to addressing that. Having Livermore also means we can play Taylor on the right, and move Allott infield, where he's looked much more effective. I'm not too bothered about not getting a striker in, as I think young Lewis, Dean, and Davies have enough about them to score bucket loads, and if Hughes can get fit, then we'll have good competition for places. Sorting the midfield out should give us enough to supply the forward lads, even without spending silly money or taking a gamble on a journeyman.

  9. I_C - I see where you're coming from... can't argue it'd be nice to have that as one of our options... but there is an alternative which you seem to have missed....... it's a complex idea, I accept, and somewhat Radical round these parts... but why not just BEAT THE FIRST FRIKKIN MAN!?!?!

Our set plays from all aspects (throwins, corners, freekicks, christ - even deadballs) have been awful all this season and last.

We fail to do basics all the time :

    - No/Little off the ball movement.

    - No awareness of options

    - No variety

    - No ability to beat the first man

    - No surprises

    - Still hope!!

Bit of time and effort and we can turn it around... on the wings, let the winger take the throws some of the time, not the right/left back... that way they can be given it back from the first touch and attack the space.

From corners (as you say I_C) mix it up a bit, let other people take them (Eardley is the obvious choice but has the defensive risk I'll admit), throw some short ones into the mix - that's not an excuse to then take 8 short corners in a game!!! CHANGE IT UP!

The biggest problem with all our set plays is that they're the same. All of them. Every time. The worst defence in the world can defend them if they know what to expect each and every time!!!

    *Rant off!

Spot on Ackey - I was going to post something like that last night, but was too knackered. It worries me a little, as it's something that you'd expect the coaching staff to have well in hand. Maybe we're not as thorough when it comes to planning SP out as other teams? In this league every little helps, and those few goals that could result (both scored and saved) could be vital in the final standings.
