Listened to the Scunthorpe commentary, they too conceded that we should have been four up at half time and commented that teams going up need to win games like this, they then did, that's the way it goes.
The sending off turned it in their favour from the sound of it and as we know it's always the team at the top that get the breaks. Sounded a cracking game and they were annoyingly complimentary about our passing ability especially in the first half. We can't keep missing chances like this surely.

Wouldn't agree that we are 'suspect defensively', we are suspect against set plays however currently.
-
Yep, you have overstepped the mark Monty, apology due.
-
They best left foot I saw was Alan Groves, the ball seemed attached to it with string.
Fantastic player for Latics and a superb dribbler and entertainer but crossing I think often let him down, nowhere near Holdens standard but still one of my all time favourites.

Shrewsbury fans complaining understandably about tickets for BP today, £24 on the day, £20 in advance, seems we are all at it.
-
Bury board stating we are one of the worst teams they have ever seen in league 1 there, despite our win. Claims this was a six pointer as we'll both definitely be in a relegation scrap. Bit harsh.

Does anybody else feel our match previews on the fishul are a bit pointless?

Forgot, John Ryan too.

He's a centre forward forager not a goal poacher, two different types of player. It's a goal poacher we need.
McKay isn't poaching any, Erwin is doing his job.
BP1960 genuinely surprised at you writing someone off so soon into his time at Oldham, and that comes from someone who enjoys your posts and insight. what concerns you about McKay at this early stage BP?

'It'll be a tough game'

I'm not writing him off. But he was :censored:ing wank today when he came on...
Is there any point in that comment?

Which ex players were there today?

Paul Futcher was classy for us, we have had a few classy defenders here, John Hurst, Richard Jobson, Dick Mulvaney, Earl Barratt, Paul Warhurst etc.
-
It's anything gets but defensive if Flynn does like know up though. 4-3-3 when attacking.

mentioned on Twitter it might have been Dan Agyei from Burnley
Hope so, looking at his youtube vid he looks a great prospect.

Went to the chippy last night (I live in Stafford) and noted a bloke in a Walsall shirt.
'Walsall fan then?' I said, 'I'm the manager' he replied.
Turned out to be Jon Whitney, told him I was an Oldham fan and he said he had just been watching our defeat at Millwall and that his chief scout will be at our match tonight ahead of this weekends game. Wouldn't give anything away of course but when I mentioned that we had 10 debutants on Saturday he said that they too had 7 so a big shake up at the Bescot too pre season.
Turns out he lives round the corner. Small world.

Agree, teams are in this league on merit regardless of the size of the club. You only occasionally get a Norwich or a Southampton running away with it.

Why has nobody at either club made this happen, great idea.To late now maybe but ...
This could have been a tribute game for Jimmy Frizzell, him being a former manager of Man city - money made over costs could have gone to Jimmy's family and the cost of a permanent tribute - like a statue or some such. I know things have been chaotic at Oldham this off season but surely one of the directors (BO?) could have got off there arse and made this happen days ago.
Any chance of someone still making it happen ASAP?

Any relation of Go?

He has 'special skills'

Played against Paul Hilton a few times for Bluecoat, was really surprised to see him play for West Ham at the highest level, did well the lad.

I suspect that Sheridan sent his agent off anywhere to find him a club as he didn't think Latics had the financial strength to honour his contract and the contracts of the players he wanted to bring in. That, coupled with the desperate need for cash (season ticket discounts) is where I think we are. Anything other than that then he has let us down. Sounds like we are in financial difficulties again and It may help to stop the hares running if the club were to deliver an honest statement, give an interview on player with Simon Corney, and then add in the acceptance by us, the supporters, that it is incredibly difficult to run a club with any success at this level on crowds of 3,000 plus. The budget isn't enough to attract the players to compete at the top end unless, a la Royle, we manage to collect a group of modest players that just happen to gel and develop beyond expectations. That's the reality, now is the time for the board/Corney to talk to us, they are only the current custodians, it's our club for life.

Probably time to recognise that defensively we have an excellent record, look at the league enable in full. IF we manage to get our strikers scoring or get someone who can in January, we'll be fine. There isn't much wrong with rest of the side now, Robinson I think is making progress.
