  1. I've said for a while I don't think we can play Sheron in a midfield 2, it just doesn't work. Especially when your 2 wingers drift in and out of games as often as ours (especially Dickenson, who has periods in games that he looks absolutely lost). Just leaves too much on the shoulders of the other cm. But at the minute we're kind of stuck with him in there because we don't really have any other options.

There’s a nagging doubt in my brain about Thompson being the man…

I cannot get away from the fact that he was/is head of recruitment and as such had to take some of the responsibility for the players we have on our books.

The last three games have raised too many questions …

In total, we’ve played 6 games in 19 days since we sacked Unsworth - won 3, drawn 3 - interim manager has steadied the ship I suppose…but I’m not sure he’s the one to get us sailing into the playoffs 🤫

I'm not entirely convinced if we'd have left unsy in place we wouldn't have got pretty much the same points haul from those games. This was a dead easy run of fixtures. We saw in the first couple of games an improvement in attacking intent and energy levels but that's kind of ebbed away since.

I can see the merits to this.

2 out of the 4 central defenders on the books played in a 3 last year, conveniently Hobson RCB and Raglan LCB.

Midfield a constant issue since we've been in this league so having 3 in the centre should bolster it.

Kitching our most prolific creator so having him higher up the pitch would suggest more balls in the box.

Cant trust Sutton or Green in that RWB roll though.

Dickenson has played wing back before. I'd also be tempted to just stick with 2 in midfield and have 3 forwards. Sheron as one of the back 3 to step up into midfield in possession.

  4. We don't create enough chances, it was a theme under unsworth and it hasn't improved, we've just played against garbage opposition since. There's very little link between the midfield and the forwards. That's why Norwood is constantly dropping deep, trying to get things moving forwards. We're constantly unbalanced in attack. We've got one very attacking full back and one full back that's a CB and looks completely lost when past the half way line. I've said it before that I don't think we can carry Sheron in a midfield 2. It just leaves too much work for the other cm, Lundstrum looked ok but again if I'm the opposition I just stick my men on him and let Sheron have the ball because he won't hurt me. We need an attacking RB and if Danny g isn't going to be fit another cm. Preferably an attacking one.

Not sure we’re getting the best out of Norwood yet, having to come deep and will get frustrated soon

He's the only one who is good at dropping into those spaces between the midfield and defenders. Green does it occasionally but Norwood is having to do it most of the time to try to link our attacks. We probably lack that proper attacking midfielder that you'd expect to do the job.

  6. 10 points from 12 is a good return, I don't think anybody is disputing that. Saying performances (at least the last 2) haven't been great is, at least to me, pretty reasonable. I was concerned with the setup today with Reid and Willoughby upfront and I don't think it worked. Those 2 will work hard for you but they need the ball either in behind or in to feet. Too often we ended up lumping balls up to them because we lack the composure to do anything other than that, especially on turnovers. I remember Reid getting played in behind twice, once because wealdstone gave it away in their own half and the other they actually played him in for us. I thought throughout the game we were a bit too rigid in attack, green hardly ever drifted infield which is where he's been most dangerous the last few games. It may have been due to us wanting to be more compact defensively and I think we probably didn't quite get the balance right today. Sutton had a poor game, was really targeted by their quick skillful players. The same problem we always have when Sheron and Shelton start together is that it puts a lot of responsibility for playmaking onto the shoulders of Dickenson, and they did well to get men on him quickly and it really hurt our attack. I thought on the balance of play we were maybe a shade fortunate to come away with a point but I'll take it nonetheless.

I would have snatched your hand off for 10 points from 4 games after unsy bit the bullet but these were 4 very winnable games and improvements will be needed.
