Bit more pace up top. I’d have preferred Lundstram to start, but it can’t be rushed

If he's fit enough to be one of four outfield subs on the bench, surely he should be fit enough to start. I worry about the lack of passing ability in the midfield with 2 forwards who are probably better with the ball being played into their feet.

I know. Was just a light hearted dig.

The positive thing about last night was that they did look comfortable playing it. So Thompson and Redfearn must be doing a good job of getting their message across.

I think some variation of 5 at the back is the best setup for this team but the rwb slot is a tricky one to fill. I'd have put green there before the last 2 games but he's looked excellent when he's drifted into the middle so I'd want him to stay there. I think feasibly hope could do it but we just really need an attacking RB....

    Blimey...

"Piss poor"? It was an ugly away win. Nowt wrong with that. It's how we're going to have to do it sometimes. They can't all be York and Oxford. It's still another world from Unsworth.

After a year of having genuine reasons to be negative, it is quite surprising the reaction from some to a third win in three.

The win is the most important thing, obviously, but I think the results have probably flattered the performances of the last 3 games. We deserved to win the first 2, but they were against poor opposition. And I don't think in either game we created enough clear chances despite the goals we scored. Tonight we probably didn't deserve a win, again against a team that is struggling. Its not negative to say that, it's being realistic. That level of performance won't see us continue winning. But we can improve, and will as this management team works with the squad (and when/if the next one comes in). There's so much we can do better and the fact we have won 3 on the trot with that being the case is a positive. But we have to continue to see those improvements if we want to be in the mix at the end of the season.

I'm not even into the twentyfirst century when following Latics games, never mind the 2020s.

I listened to the whole game tonight on BBC radio via the internet, but had the impression that some of you were watching a video feed of some sort.

Is that the case, and if so how do I do likewise? Is it possible without some kind of subscription arrangement?

So the national League has a streaming service. It's only available "overseas" for 3pm Saturday games but midweek games it's available domestically. You can pay for just one off games or subscribe monthly/annually I think (if you're "overseas")

Textbook away performance.  Not pretty, but better than under you-know-who in every way.

We look dangerous going forward, knock it about well (and not in our own 6 yard box) and are solid at the back.

    Hobson an absolute signing.

Stick with Thommo until it starts to go South, I reckon..

It's not doing his chances any harm, I still think I'd probably look to someone with experience of getting out of this league but can't knock what he's done so far.

I was disappointed that when Shelton came on, we look a bit like the performances in previous games. Shelton tend to drop back nearly into the back 4. We had been engaging them 5 or 10 yards further out until then. Suddenly their mid field had time and space, and for 15 mins we struggled.  Shelton rarely closes inside 5 yards from the man with the ball and tries to block their pass from there. He doesn’t get close enough to influence them. Maybe that can be coached, but he isn’t ready to play at the moment.

That's ridiculous, the entire team did it. In fact when Reid came on we shifted to more of a 451...

  7. I thought overall we did about as much as we needed to, which isn't a criticism as such. I personally just felt that was a missed opportunity to really throw down a statement victory. That could have been a 6 or 7 nil. This might sound strange after a 4-0 win but I didn't think we created enough clear cut chances, certainly for the possession we had. Definitely in the 2nd half we took our foot off the accelerator and it felt like we were just drifting through the game. It's not a complaint because the game was dead, Oxford offered nothing and I said at HT it's the easiest game of the season. I just think whoever gets the gig needs to instill a ruthlessness to this squad.

    As for the players,

Hudson 8 - No drama, distribution is getting better I think, great save at the start of the 2nd half in the scramble.

Sutton 8 - I really feel for him because he doesn't half try, everything defensively (aside from the odd positional lapse in concentration) he does really well. But when he gets to the other end it's just abundantly clear you're looking at a CB.

Hobson 8 - Rock solid again, his pace is a real asset.

Hogan 8 - Same as Hobson minus the pace bit.

Kitching 7 - Maybe not as influential down his side today but always gives his all. Teams will be aware of how much attacking threat he gives.

Green 9 - Was on it from the off today, always popping up in good positions. Took his goal well. Thought he looked very dangerous when moving more central. If he could've put a bit more juice on a few through balls to nuttall he might've been looking at a 10 👀.

Sheron 6 - Usual busy self, defensively solid. Too sideways and backwards. First half especially the CBS were forced into trying to play the balls he should.

Gardner 7 - Was dead after 60 mins but, when he has time on the ball (and time to think), he's one of the best in the division at picking passes. He just needs to calm down a bit and not try to do everything at a million miles an hour. I'd like to see him spin and drive with the ball more.

Dickinson 8 - 8 for a player who scored twice might be harsh but I thought he drifted in and out of the game a bit too much. 2 great finishes though.

Nuttall 6 - Effort was there and had a couple of half chances, link up play just didn't really happen for him today.

Norwood 7 - You can just see his class. Especially when he drops into midfield to collect the ball. Got his goal at the end. Would've liked to see him on the ball a bit more because he always seems to know where the play should go.
