  1. I wonder if in this day and age we, as lower division club supporters, should become more tolerant and accepting of other fans who wish to follow their local club but also maintain a clear allegiance to a more glamorous, top end Premiership club?

As an example my colleague is Italian, from the Amalfi coast. He is a passionate Juventus fan but comes across as being just as enthusiastic about his local third tier side and looks bewildered when I tell him that I have no affiliation or affection for any Premiership side and that, indeed quite the opposite is true. He looks even more puzzled if I tell him that Latics are my big team, glamorous affectation as I spend more time these days at local non-league games!

This sort or arrangement is I think much more common in Europe than it is here, possibly due to the much bigger gaps that have, historically, separated higher and lower divisions on the continent and maybe also due to the much larger distances between clubs in a lot of countries which reduces local rivalries. I can’t imagine that any region in Europe has a larger number of professional clubs than does the historic Lancashire area.

Now that the prospect of clubs like Latics ever challenging at the top table is more remote than it has ever been before I wonder if the feeling of utter anathema towards the idea of someone supporting, say, City and Latics might or should dissipate? Fiver off for a home game for anyone under ten wearing a City shirt?!

Ok, I can go along with the concept of what you are saying. I'm sure a lot of football fans have a leaning towards a second team through family connections etc. (Noel G's joke about Latics fans being frustrated City fans spring to mind) but if you are capable of or indeed, do support two teams wear the Shirt of the club you are at or civvies. I for one don't want to see City and Utd shirts at every home game!

  2. You win nothing on paper and think we will be stronger as a unit.

Keepers two decent keepers. When was that last the case ....years ago.

Pace in Brown, silly lad at blades and something to prove. Grounds a vast improvement by word of mouth.

Centre half? Suspect a massive season for Tarky and MVoto looks fitter.

Midfield looks stronger and keeping Wes and Furman fit a big factor. McChang able and will score a few. Croft looks to need to shed a few pounds but basic skills better than we had. Taylor will be missed but hey ho....

Simpson to play in a free role that he thrives on. Taylor our starter for 9 untried but suspect better than we think.

Millar, Mellor Winchester etc have to step up and earn a place. Smith appears to be wearing the boo boy tag right now. Give the lad a chance and back him.

Still to arrive ? Who knows as long as up for it.

DEpth an issue but on day starting 11 good enough.

    +1

I like the way the current squad is building, a bit thin on the ground, yes but PD seems to have a knack of getting more out of SC, in their respective interviews PD said 5 new players to come in and SC said 3,(with a smile on his face when told PD said 5) suspect PD will get him upto 4.

SC also said that we would wait for uncontracted players to lower their expectations late on in July.

  3. played for Bradford yesterday against Tadcaster according to my mate

weren't we suppose to be signing him?

I heard that when he came for talks, Gerry was in the corridor outside tapping beer bottles together on each finger, chanting, Taiwo come out to playay

  4. Went up for the day and was most impressed with aspects of the 1st half. It looks like the starting XI (barring Cisak) and will definitely compete once we get some strength to back them up. Simpson dropped in and was constantly linking with wes and furman stringing some really nice passing moves together. Crofty did cut in a lot but looks so assured on the ball (still got that class evidently) and it allows the energetic Brown to bomb past him on the right. Tarky, in particular, and Mvoto were very assured throughout and Grounds didn't put a foot wrong - he looks the most solid LB since Charlton on that showing. M'Changama could work on the left for now really makes the midfield tick and looks v.solid. Simpson and Taylor were always looking to link up and seem to have a decent understanding already. Taylor's movement is a class apart and at times showed a lovely first touch. His only real chance he took very early on his left peg, almost surprising the keeper and the ability to control the ball, lay it off and then get in behind the defence for Simpson's goal was top draw.

Bouzanis - nothing to do, always looking to get the game going with a early ball - 6

Brown - unsure yet defensively, but loves an overlap and is rapid - 7

    Grounds - excellent, very asured - 8

Tarky - bossed their forwards, and a goal finally! - 8

Mvoto - did ok. barring a bizzare attempt to take on their entire team leading to a lunge worthy of a yellow - 6

Croft - looks class still, bit of timber still tho. - 7

    Wes - busy as ever - 6

Furman - got forward really well and always involved in passing moves - 7

M'Chang - strengthens the middle when cutting in. Didn't really come off for him going forward - 6

Simpson - sublime finish and looks the part at number.10 as we already know - 7

Taylor - really like this lad. Fingers crossed he can stick in the the onion bag - 8

    Subs:

Smith - really poor. Jacob made 2 good saves. Trialists were average with LB the best of the 3.

Mellor looks to have spent the off season in the gym and was head and shoulders over the rest of the team.

Winchester was nowhere and nothing came off for Hughes.

Broke all records from a young age - 77 goals for the same boys team as Shearer - 77 goals at any level in a season is amazing could be something very special. Lets hope so!

  5. Correct Gaz.....Chaddy 3754, Main 2455, RRE 4609 = 10818

-180 for the extra segregation in place between small and large area in RRE = 10638.

So if the proposed new stand holds 3000 the total capacity would become 13818.

Which means if we do win a promotion at some point, we would only need to add a few thousand more seats for a decent average attendance in the Championship.

  6. I've had the 3 emails with different prices on too, their CRM system must be screwed.

These are what the 3 emails are about, it's whichever applies to you. Looked into it hope this helps.

    Monthly 12 x £4.49 = £53.88 (Direct debit Option)

    6 monthly 2 x £21.49 = £42.98 (The gift option)

    1 yrs paid upfront £37.99

  7. :goggle:Look into my eyes, look into my eyes, the eyes, the eyes, not around the eyes, don't look around my eyes, look into my eyes, you're under. You are not able to make any further posts on this thread you don't feel the need to make any further posts on this thread, you're happy for me to win and let this thread slip slip slip away. Three, two, one... You're back in the taproom.
  8. If I created a thread and broke the following story: "Oldham set to land Joey Barton on loan" - then, yeah, close it as it's a complete fantasy.

Seeing as the Micah Richards link is making backpages, then debate is rightfully stirred. Now, obviously the paper in question is, well, questionable, but there we are.

Can't see it. City don't need to sell, even with the ridiculously overstated FFP laws in place. They've bipassed those with the help of their wider family in the East and BT stepping into the ring with Sky.

    Would be nice, mind you.

Would be typical Latics though if City sold for £50m to RM and we had cashed in for £500k last year!
