    6 weeks ago it looked like we would finish fourth. I have just tuned in today to listen to the game only to find out it finished about an hour ago. That speaks volumes. I don’t think I have ever felt this low about Latics and that’s saying something. Yes yes I get we are in a better place off the pitch but that’s not offering me a lot of comfort right now. This is an emotional response rather than necessary a rational one

    Have had numerous debates with people suggesting the players are essentially good enough by reference to their past achievements. Can’t remember who. Don’t really pay attention to who say what. am intrigued as to why these people believe our current crop are better than those who have been quickly dropped - Shelton, nuttall, Rooney. Two of these players have very good credentials. one cannot live on past ‘glories’ and assume they will transfer to a different context.

    That team had some proper players. It’s really not hard to build a capable team. Look at the circumstances under which Kewell pulled that team together.

    Don’t see it. I can accept past achievements as a sensible proxy but you can’t rely on that alone. Different division, different context. We’ve seen enough to know that in the current context (which is all that matters) they simply aren’t good enough. May be that some are good enough to be in a playoff winning team. But there is not enough of them in the ranks oh and next season won’t be any easier. Rochdale and Southend will be a big threat.

    Are you for real? What can we take from the last four games (which will be essentially friendlies). Are you seriously suggesting this team can finish the season with some dignity? My word this is some perspective am sick of Oldham fans taking positives from meaningless matches. Chesterfield was the peak. like England fans jizzing themselves over a convincing qualifying campaign. Good teams perform when it matters. This team has just failed spectacularly in that sense.

    There can be no excuses. The season has been an abject failure. those with any influence over on the pitch matters at the club should be ashamed. I’d like to hear from Darren Royle. He is answerable.

    Cue the melts on here praising the team for improved performances over the last five games of the season and pointing to that being ‘playoff form’ after heroically just missing out having been 6 points adrift at the start of April.

    Missing out on the playoffs I can take. Missing out by, most likely, 6+ points having looked like we would progress to finish 4th at the end of Feb represents a total disaster. that is worrying. It says a lot about the character of this team. They will be damaged. It’s hard to see this team coming back from this.

    Possibility. But there is a critical mass of shite in crucial positions that mean we are a mid table side. we can accept limitations. But the lack of character, hard work, hunger I cannot accept. Those things exist entirely independently of technical quality

    They are incapable of doing the basics and unwilling to work hard. That makes them shit in my view. Performances tend to reflect my opinion on this point.

    We have three players in the midfield who were willing to come and play for this club when AL owned it. You know, players who no one else wanted, hence signing for AL Why is that?

    I genuinely think our players believe that playing the likes of Altrincham is below them. Kitching thinks he doesn’t have to show any urgency or strength. he optimises the attitude of this team as I see it
