  1. Love the optimism. And I agree there will be a way. but I can’t get over the fact that we have signed such dross on long term contracts. It’s utterly criminal at this level.
  2. I have very little appetite for appointing someone that knows the club inside out. Not even sure what it means to be honest he’s done very well
  3. I suppose hobson, lundsrum and Hammond should be that. But when you have had the season we have just had, your assets are not, by implication, very sellable. May change by the end of next season if these three kick on. But I have yet to see any serious signs that that will happen
  4. Ironic that the two clubs using stat bombs are the two biggest under achievers in the division (relative to size) this season. It’s use may not be the problem but my word it’s added nothing. I simply can’t get over the quality of player we have recruited.
  5. The alarm bells were ringing for me when unsworth started going on about stats and players lounges. I mean all great having these things and am sure they add value somewhere but I’d have to question his priorities. It just strikes that one or two people have been like a kid in a sweet shop with franks money and treated it like a championship manager exercise.
  6. Without wishing to simplify it, at this level if you sign competent players and cover all positions, it should be enough to look like a team. i will say it again, this is not elite sport. Rules and philosophies which apply in the premier league don’t necessarily need to transfer to this level.
  7. So who in our team actually needs to go? Rather than we need to strength in this department or that department, who is not up it?
  8. Chesterfield would have won the league with me playing. let’s put it differently. We won’t get in the playoffs if we are reliant on McGahey (and sheron) to do the jobs they are doing presently unless the other 9 or 10 are head and shoulders above the rest of the league, which is unlikely
  9. I would struggle to disagree with anything more than this. Thanks
  10. your last points particularly resonate. But it’s very hard to strike a balance as a football fan. It’s either amazing / very positive or a disaster. There’s not really happy middle ground. I don’t think our fans know what success looks like. Most use the last 80s / early 90s as a benchmark. ok it was largely, but not wholly, tongue in cheek but the HMS piss the league shite at the beginning of the season was a case in point
  11. It looked good - as in we were picking up lots of points and were closing in on 4th place and maybe higher. the team did not look anything better than bang average. I agree
  12. Don’t think we are. We all knew there were structural vulnerabilities there. said it after Halifax at home last season that I didnt trust the team as I felt they had ‘Halifax’s’ in it. And we are nowhere near eradicating these.
  13. Yep it looked good ar one point m. The trajectory was good then and we all get caught up in the moment. But you can only judge things over the whole season. The nature of our start proved there was a major weakness in the team.
  14. I am advocating that you can drop your leading scorer. No more than that.
  15. Well no, we will finish in the same position as we were in when he came into the job. Not getting better is a lot different to getting worse. The team is where it is because of its limited capability. we started shit, looked ok for 22 games in the middle and looked shit again towards the end. Mellon couldn’t change the trajectory. and I don’t know what ‘we are getting into only certain results matter territory’ means. I am the one taking a whole season perspective here
  16. So you automatically judge the quality of the team and it’s mentality based on the purple patch of the season and conclude that because of said purple patch they must be good enough?
  17. Also whilst January may not be the optimum time to sign players, as many have said on here as an excuse for the under performance of those he has brought in, but that’s just people regurgitating shit that they hear pundits commenting on the premier league say. this is not elite sport. This is a world away from the premier league. A competent player should be able to slot into a team at this level very quickly. We are not a finely tuned machine playing precision football. It’s really shouldn’t be as difficult as it’s being made out to be to field a team who can compete in the top third of this league we’ve signed lots of players mid season before who have come in and made a difference.
  18. What do you expect. A ten point strategy? the guys has said the players are not good enough and he knows what we need. Thank god he sees it the same way as us. He has every right to say ‘trust me’ as he is the football man within the club enTRUSTED to manage that side of this project based on his knowledge and experience. He doesn’t have to explain himself at every turn.
  19. That’s not how business works. If he is the right man to be CEO then fine. If he is not then he shouldn’t be in the role. i thank him for what he did but there is no room for such sentimental bullshit
  20. Personally am not willing to write these two off yet. But I absolutely get your point.
