This may be interesting to supporters of a certain age.

Sadly the injuries seem to have caught up with him witnessing his appearance at Boundary Park a couple of years ago.

Yes remember hattrick vleicester  in FA cup  , I was stood in the main stand paddock and the away fans decided to do some landscape gardening of the RRE, and lumps of the old concrete teracing were dispatched towards the home supporters.

Loved Youngie though, and on his day (sadly not every match) he looked a class forward.

RIP - ripped us a new one on the day the old Ford Stand opened - 0-6 against Villa he got a hat trick I think. Was a crucial part of our 73/4 3rd division title winning team.

Many happy memories of his heading ability in that season, led the line well and linked up well with George McVitie

  3. Some one at The Club recently arranged for all the squad to sign a 90th Birthday card for my Dad, and delivered on time and although a small gesture by each of them  was wonderfully appreciated by my Dad.

He started my interest in Latics, some 50 odd years ago, when we were second bottom of 4th Division, and he reminded me we were seeking reelection not for the first time  ... how things change !

One of my rare forays into the main stand paddock.

James was unplayable that day as was  Martin Dobson.

From memory, both scored. The wankers.

I was on the Rochdale road end, on the perimeter boards( 10p cheaper than the Chaddy I think) , and seeing Leighton James up close was a treat for a young lad, if you didn't mind being in with a mix of home and away fans. They probably played in their away strip of white shirts, sad as their home shirts were the same as my then current schoolboy football shirts, Derker juniors .

ta for that and the previous chapters unsworth some fantastic memorys vividly brought back of my ten year old self perched a close to the goal as possible on the wall of the chaddy watching the running battles swating to and fro accross the chaddy .the sunderland one sticks out as particulaly active .wasnt allowed to go to the Manure home game due to the yob ellement that preceded them but do remember giving Bobby Moore some fearsome stick after his screamer of an og v fulham happy memories of football with my late dad my brother and friends playing guess the crowd as we walked down sheepfoot lane .the scarf & rosette seller half way down commerative programme with a huge silver cup on the front for the texaco cup semi final .my first night game at latics .heady days and memories

I too sat on the boards behind the Chaddy goal in that year. Always enjoyed clapping the opposition keeper and getting an acknowledgememt.

Remember throwing the ball back to Jim Coombes and him saying 'thanks cock'.

Had my scarf nicked after the Sunderland game outside the Ford Stand, second of mine to go that way as I had my silk/Wool 3rd Div champions one nicked in the Chaddy  when I was holding on to the boards above that nobbly concrete perimeter wall.

Remember the cracking atmosphere of the night games when driving over from Derker you could see the floodlights inthe night sky and then walking down sheepfoot lane with a throng of excited voices  discussing what Grovesy could do.

Only time I felt like that last season was the first Scholes game.

Just glad me, my Dad  and my mates were there to enjoy those days.

  6. Wonderful talent. A palpable buzz went round the ground when he had the ball.

1973 team with Alan and George McVitie on t'other wing  was exciting to watch, created chances and scored goals. As a 15 yr old, he had been my favourite player and when he died , it was around the day of one of my O levels and I wore a black tie rather than usual blue tie to school that day as mark of respect.

Those were the days! 70's and loads of local derbies with decent crowds on,

Walking up those steps into the chaddy and seeing the stands and pitch over the rise was a spiritual moment

Yes recall my first time on the Chaddy early 1973 v Watford. Still at Junior school and trying to find a position on the old boards at the top right to see over the clouds of pipe smokers. Most of the neighbours went and us kids disappeared  to the top and adults lower down, much as with the athleticos  in the Earl Barratt /Rocky Road end these days. Memories and allegiances formed from this shared visceral experience and is why the club needs to welcome families if we are to survive.

Mr K - think about it before firing from the hip. I am not renewing my season card - and season card money is often seen as vital to a club owner to tide them over the close season.

I`ve said that is because I cannot support a regime until some semblance of order returns. When it does (and I am not bothered whether that is via the owner changing his ways, or a new owner - I just want some stability and common sense) then I will renew my unwavering support.

So, I might not attend a single game next season - I might attend them all (and yes that will cost me far more than a season card).

However, the way I see it, at least I am sending a message (I accept small in isolation) to the owner, whilst still leaving the door open to renew my support. Makes sense to me.

Also where I am at. Our 2 season tickets not renewed. Will look out for response to the Trust letter with interest.
