I suppose the verdict on that situation would depend on whether he is refusing because he is arrogant and childish or whether he really believes he has done nothing to apologise for.

I don’t believe for one minute that Frankie Bunn and AL are making this up. What good would that do?  AL invested heavily in bringing Byrne to the club. It’s not in his interest to have him not playing . Best for all concerned would be to loan him out to a non league team who would kick the shit out of the little bastard. Might do him good.

    1. Agree on that. Initially when the ITKers were saying he was 'suspended' I thought they meant from employment, pending investigation, rather than being made to train with the kids. I could understand the cynicism when that was the information available.

    2. "Jack has breached a couple of discipline rules." Frankie Bunn in today's press-conference.

    3. "Deals for three key loan players had to be renegotiated in January. The weekly bill for the three, one of whom signed permanently, went from £3,750 to around £16,000." Doyle, Bryan and Byrne were costing us £16,000 p/w so I'd say £5,000 p/w seems about right for JB.

    4. "Many were signed on wages previously well outside Oldham's budget. Midfielder Mohamed Maouche was given £4,000-a-week. He subsequently played 10 minutes of League One football (and remains on the payroll)." Both from Keegan's article.

So hearsay again. Unless Keegan can prove where he got those figures from they mean shit all. I could pluck figures out of the air as well and say it’s true. I don’t believe we payed anywhere near those figures quoted and if we did if I was AL I would be more than agreived that those players underperformed in the later part of last season.  I See Doyle is not playing well at Bradford. They might want to put him on loan come January if he fails to score.

Point 4 is very naive. Firstly, AL has to incur considerable legal fees and time in going after Corney. Secondly, you assume that recovery of said debts would be achievable, i.e. Corney would have the assets to pay up.

    Get a grip.

You are correct about point 4. How can you file a case against a person who is bankrupt and has sod all. Ok that person could be sent to jail for a lengthy time but getting money back is a pipe dream.

comment from Carlisle fans forum:  "When I saw the team it seemed a curious decision to play Gerrard last night - even more so when I saw his physical state. 20 kg overweight? Against their forwards?"

Why shouldn’t Shez play Gerrard he knows best he’s the greatest manager that has ever managed an OAFC team

What's that rumour got to do with a thread about people misspelling players names like I did in jest?

Obviously published on wrong thread. Sorry to upset your misspelling thread so much. Mega apologise. I thought this was an opinions for you site. Maybe opinions don’t really count then no matter where they are posted.

  6. Rumour has it that Byrne broke Fanes leg intentionally and has since refused to apologise to all concerned. The incident was witnessed by two supporters who have said that it was a high two footed tackle. If this is the case why he has been suspended then I just don’t get the love in. He apparently has sent himself to jail by refusing to apologise and move on.

Pity is he is a brilliant player and admitted technically better than any other player we have got. If he could control his temper we would have a truely great player. It’s very sad that he is his own worst enemy.

    Beat Macc at home.

    Draw at Yeovil

Beat Morcambe in front of a travelling 2000 Blues.

2-2-1 sat happily in the top 10.

Baxter and Byrne running the show, Clarke has just over seen two clean sheets.

    Guess what's next?

Newport and Crawley at home. 6 more points and we'd be top 3.

Wishful thinking Byrne is no longer an Oldham player.

I agree with you that this is the likely scenario, but why doesn’t FB say what’s happened? It’s all clouded in secrecy! I can understand to a degree that he needs to keep certain things under wraps, such as a transfer target that he doesn’t want to alert other clubs to, but all we are talking about is an injured player aren’t we? If he’s been ill and then got a knock on his knee then tell the fans what’s happened. I find the lack of communication from FB a little irritating to be honest. Answering questions with “possibly” and a silly grin will soon start to grate on people.

Give the fans a bit of credit, treat them like they should be treated and stop being so guarded all the time.

To be honest I thought he had explained that Clarke was injured in his ifollow interview part 2.

What's the conspiracy theory for this one? He's suspended? His appearance fees are too high? He sold AL a knock off pair of jeans and they split causing embarrassment so he's sentenced him to train with the tea lady?

He was ill with a virus and then came back to train and got injured in training. Nothing sinister in that and is just bad luck on his part because he’s looked fittter this preseason than for a long time.

He and his team should know all there is to know about every team, it is their job.

I could tell that him that Mark Cooper sides generally get the ball down and play so if you're reading Frankie you can have that one for free.

Why not apply for the managers job next time round. Let’s see if you will disclose your tactics before your next game. I think not or are you completely stupid.

Predictable rapid tweet from the fat, unfit, gobshite, professional sportsman and role model? , ego massive even for a scouser. Could not give a stuff what he has to say. He  is sacked for gross misconduct one of his greatest achievements as a player. Carlisle are welcome to him. Only person Anthony cares about is himself.

    PROFESSIONAL more like UNPROFESSIONAL

No wonder he’s only been given half a season contract at Carlisle. Totally unfit, won’t train, fat Bastered. You can keep your thoughts to yourself Anthony we are not interested in listening to the verbal garbage that you turn out.

Was a fairly late starter at Boundary Park as my dad hadn't much interest in football, relied on George a mate of his taking me. Can remember watching Johnstone, Lister, Colquhoun and of course my hero Bob and the cup match versus West Ham ( when my 5'5" dad told some 6 foot plus Hammers to "get to the back of the bloody queue" as they tried to push to the front of us waiting to get into the cowshed. Was excited walking to the match seeing posters on lamp posts that we'd signed Ian Towers and equally disappointed when we sold George Kinnell to Sunderland after a dozen or so matches. But the match that really sticks in my memory was one of my first night matches against Mansfield Town. My favourite player was played as a makeshift centre forward and, late in the game if I remember rightly, was through on goal and shot straight at their goalie, shot against the crossbar with his second effort and finally buried his header on the rebound.

If only I would have been old enough to savour a pint* on the way home it would have been the perfect night !

    * We did use to have a couple of pints of mild in the Dog and Duck on St. Domingo Street before night matches with schoolmates ( Dad told me to only drink mild 'til I was 18 which I diligently observed ! ) only to be told by the Landlord to "fuck off you're underage" when I attempted to change a particularly rank pint. And this after he'd served us for a season and a half !

Thanks for the memories, great days they where.

Wellens knew all about Byrne’s character before he signed him. . .

Lots of managers take risks with players that they think they can change.

Plus it’s easy to look hungry when your on trial and after a contract- that’s not aimed at Miller that’s every pro looking to impress.

The Wellens and Byrne situation is not the same you cannot compare it. Bunn coached Miller at City and many years later at Huddersfield. He knows his character better than Wellens ever knew about Jack Byrne. Also Miller has had to prove to Bunn in preseason that he’s worked hard on his fitness. I think he’s worth a try.

  15. I believe Miller has been at the club a good few weeks now and has done a full preseason training. He was at City with Bunn and at Huddersfield with Bunn. So our manager must know a fare amount about the guy. I trust Bunns judgement on this until proven wrong . Obviously he would not have given him a contract if he didn’t think he could do a decent job for us and I’m damned sure he would not have signed him if he thought he was a bad egg. Bunn has had enough of those to sort out this preseason without adding more to his list.

They’ve recruited well I think. Moore-Taylor and Harley have been key players for Exeter these past couple of years when they’ve got to Wembley in the play-offs. Baudry and Houghton were ever present for Doncaster when they went up automatically last year from this division. D’ath has been automatically promoted twice in the last 3 seasons playing in League Two with Northampton and Luton. Finally,  Mitch Hancox has had a fair bit of Championship experience whilst he was a youngster with Birmingham and he was a key player for Macclesfield who stormed the league below last season. Really clever business and when coupled with Tisdale who’s experienced at this level I’m struggling to see past them for automatic promotion.

Obviously I hope it all goes tits up and they implode

Individuals don’t make a team. If they don’t gel together then anything can happen. They have not had a good preseason.

  17. 3 minutes ago, Ryan said:

He played in 41 league game scoring 8 goals. 20 of those 41 appearances were off the bench.

I’ve literally said it’s about as good as we could’ve hoped for and one of the usual happy clappy suspects jumps on me. Whatevs.

Not according to HICT Sport he made 53 appearances and scored 10 goals.

  18. 15 minutes ago, Ryan said:

It’s hardly going to excite people given that this lad couldn’t get in the 11 for 19th placed Yeovil...

BUT I think a youngster from the Premier League on loan was inevitable given our financial circumstances. One who has played minutes in this league before and returned a decent amount of goals is about the best we could’ve hoped for.

    I’m ok with Surridge.

Cotterill would be quality - a few more signings of that ilk and I’ll be joining the walk the league lads

What are you talking about Ryan he played over 50 games for Yeovil last season scoring 10 goals and got 6 assists. You do talk some crap at times.

  19. 9 minutes ago, deyres42 said:

Do we need to? Would he be signing for us if Bournemouth had genuine high hopes for him?

If we sign this so called kid it will be a big achievement for Bunn because apparently there have been Division 1 teams after his services. Also BP1960 says he’s a terrific prospect.
