Thought you started your own post on Eardley ????

Lets see ... are you going to spend the evening trying to get every topic from today to lead into how poor (in your humble opinion) you think Eardley is.

Sometimes you have to give the oppo some credit. Burnley were very fast to close down the man in possession which makes it hard for him to play a passing game unless his team mates are equally (or faster) as fast to find space for him to pass too. Which then leaves said player with no one to pass to or hit long for fear of losing ball in that area of the pitch.

This is the differance between League one and Championship or Championship and Prem... the speed of thought!. Many occasions last night saw the Burnley lads think quicker which makes our lads look they were, as the saying goes, ball watching. During the odd spells (which lasted 5 mins tops) when Latics got in amongst the Burnley players, Burnley couldn't pass it with ease and we managed to get some territory. Once you get some territory you carry more threat cos you can then play shorter more accruate passing and have more players in forward positions. Burnley with the quicker thought could break far quicker turning defence into attack greater than Latics players are acustomed and this caught us out for the goals. Also it helps with the pace of Paterson and Eagles up top! thou Smalley left Eagles in his wake on the one out and out dash they had when Smalley over cooked it for his cross but managed to win a corner during the first half. If Latics players should learn anything form last night it should be speed of thought, pass and move for your team mate, look for the space and a clear path for your team mate in possession to be able to pass to you, once you've passed do the same for him immediately. Footballs a simple game.

Burnley were absolutely shocking .. they were very much there for the taking.

right o. They were head and shoulders above us, hence all the moaning about formation and getting it wrong. But you're right.

The moaning about the formation has nothing to do with Burnley  more the fact that we went from a formation were comfortable and used to, and also winning .. to one thats been played here and there and clearly dosent work. Burnley showed there class for the first goal ... yes .. but the 2nd and 3rd were just sloppy defending ..

If you think they were "head and shoulders" above us you think that pal

We don't play Burnley again, So with the usual formation to which I advocate we will never know this season unless in the FA Cup. So I go off last night, they were better than us. As for the first goal you could argue had Lomax not let the winger get in behind him they'd never have scored, so maybe bad defending or their class at playing their winger in?

I would suggest not many teams who weren't that much better win 3-0, however on this occasion they were, all over the pitch (on the night). Their players were faster and technically better Pal!

Burnley were the better team last night against the side/formation we put out, last season we lost by the same score and didn't deserve to, last night we did, if we'd have played the same team and formation as we used in the previous games in the season so far then who knows what would've happened, but we didn't so we'll never know.

Burnley were indeed the better team, but lets be honest. We were easy to play against until we went two upfront.

Same balls and punts up field time and again. Burnley's defence against O'grady where always going to win it and on the few occasions O'grady would win a flick on, it'd end up at the feet of the other Burnley centre half who could just tidy up the peices. Simple. No other word for it and i'd give anything for every team we came up against to play in the manner we did last night as it's a peice of......... to play against.

Burnley had more imagination. Were quicker than us and first to everything and won everything. They were far more organised and most importantly played a formation they knew their roles for.

When we went two upfront though we saw the Burnley of this season and why they've been doing so badly in the league - defensively. They're an absolute shambles against two strikers who link up well together. Burnley arent a good team. They're not going to do much in the Championship other than struggle. Unless they sort out their defence that is.
