davebuckley06
according to yesterdays mirror they are set to get a £1billion fine for paying bribes to get foreign contracts. BAE Systems chance to get the failsworth site a bit cheaper maybe? might want to bring as much money in as quickly as possible leading to them flogging things cheaper to get interest? Crusoe
Maybe, but since they turned a £2.37bn profit last year on sales of £18.54bn they're not short of a bob or two.

thelaticsfan
press quick to get the story to sell the papers? is it true? dont have a clue thing is they are biased, if a company does something well they will be quick to praise them as it will make them look good n sell more papers, if someone does something a bit dodgy the newspapers make it into a catastrophe as it will sell more papers

Sorry mate but seriously BAE are the 3rd biggest defence company on the planet. They're not going to knock down the price of the Lancy Club cos of that... In any case, here's what will happen (again) Man from UK Govt: "Those bribes, I mean, business transactions were in the national security interests." Case closed or BAE do deal with Serious Farce Office (© Private Eye) and give them a few grand to keep them sweet.

Like someone else said, the payments they made are "common practice" in certain countries and it appears strange that the SFO is going after them. (Can't imagine that happening in the US). But there's history here and the last time the SFO got close to a conviction the govt. intervened to shut the case down. Prob a bit more than you wanted to know but my general point is BAE are a rich and powerful company.

Could the root cause be the French and German defence companies aren't getting in with these countries and have compained to their respective governments who have talked to each other and have decided on a joint moan to some unelected British hating EU commisioner who has told the UK the situation needs investigating!!!
