JKblues
Hi Rummy - I've dowloaded FoFix and it starts and have no problem interacting with it - however when I go to either Solo or quickplay it asks me to 'choose a new songs directory' and then I'm able to browse the folders on my computer (using Mac). Not sure what it wants me to do! Any advice?
Matt
Get some career tracks from http://www.fretsonfire.net/forums/viewtopi...f=5&t=15102 (I think you might have to register with the forum first), and drop them into a songs folder - just create one in your FoFiX install folder... JKblues
Thanks I'll get on it - probably could have read that on the download site, but didn't in my haste to be a rock god!
Ackey
ACES!!! I take that back, as it seems like it will not work on Vista. Crashed my tappylop twice and resets the graphics to the opposite end of the spectrum... annoying!
Matt
Reading through the Rockstar notes, the free games that they have released have been modified to run on modern PC's. I'm sure we can find a Vista workaround with C&C on the internet...

I'm sure we can find a Vista workaround with C&C on the internet... I had a quick scan and gave up. Tried tweaking a couple of things but it doesn't seem happy. If you come upon anything let me know As for GTA, I've got my mates Xbox at the moment so I'm trying to work my way through IV.
Matt
I used to play raw abandonware (installed as it was released back in the day) on DosBox with a decent front end - can't remember the name of the front end app at the moment. That might fire it up...
JKblues
Been getting tracks from the FoF forum for the last couple of hours and just had a go. It's really good - takes a bit of time to get the tracks as you need to trawl through their database, read reviews of whether the version of the track you're about to download is a good sync to the music track. Only played it using my keyboard so far which limits the difficulty level as it's hard to slide your fingers around the keys (although with practice I suppose it's possible), but you can hook up the actual GH and RB guitars. As you say Rummy there are thousands of tracks to choose from - and a huge diversity of music. If you are going to have a go with this I would seriously recommend checking the reviews of each track before you download and also what difficulty level it offers. If you just want to sit using your laptop like me then anything above medium and you'll be failing songs left right and centre. If you have a plug in keyboard however it is possible to use it as wired guitar! One problem I encountered being a Mac user is that the controls didn't work as they are defaulted to use the function keys, however on a mac to use F1, F2 etc you need to hold down the function button, otherwise you just end up changing the brightness of your screen!! Took a few minutes to change the controls and you'll need to avoid all conflicts with the other assigned controls for player 2, drums etc. Anyway, that was meant to be a short post to recommend giving it a go and thanks Rummy for the link - apologies for the reviewing nature it took!! Red Alert: http://www.ea.com/redalert/news-detail.jsp?id=62 Scroll to the bottom of the page for download links. And they have a vista crack! Aces!! Download started. But to be fair though C&C Tiberian Sun is possibly the best PC game I ever played... the multiplayer on that was immense. It was back in the day's when my folks had pay by the minute dial up and I ran up a £150 phone bill playing pretty much 24/7... My geekiest ever fact - I was once ranked SIXTH in the world at Tiberian Sun... how lame is that!? I ran my own clan and all sorts of :censored:. << Loser

Matt
Just a quick one before I go, FreeCiv. http://freeciv.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page It's been around for years - since 1995 (The Sumer Game started in 1969 and was written in FOCAL!) - and it's still going - with a plethora of mods and a very healthy community that help to develop the source - this is one of those freeware titles that doesn't stop giving. If you like strategy and sandbox and management and god games - you will not go wrong with this...
