Takemeanywhere Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 I don't know if this has got a mention amid all the hysteria over a comprehensive home win for the first team and the return of the bald fella, but a vastly depleted youth team were in action this morning against Morecambe. Despite a couple of players having to play with knocks and a bench filled with schoolboys, Latics youth team ran out winners by three goals to one. The first goal was scored by Kyle Riley, who found himself all the space in the world at the back post to head in an Andy Crompton free-kick. Matty D Carr grabbed the second, heading home a Crompton corner to give Latics a deserved two goal cushion. Morecambe did pull a goal back but Crompton soon restored the two goal advantage late in the first half with a neat finish. The second half saw no addition to the scoreline but the margin of victory should have been far greater. Jack Laird hit the woodwork no less than three times, whilst David Mellor hit the bar with powerful left-foot free-kick. The current crop of young players are playing some great football and the next home game is a fixture against Bury on the 4th September before the first team's home game against Bristol Rovers. The games are played at Chapel Road with an 11am kick-off. All welcome. Quote

daniel Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 went down myself this morning, first time watching the youth team, very impressed with what i saw, the ginger centre back who played a few 1st team friendlies, matty carr, he looked very good, thought jack laird looked good but was a bit disappointed with his attitude towards TP at one point TP was talking to him and he walked off swearing, think he'll need to cut that out a bit. Macca Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Would be good to get highlights of the youths/reserves up on latics player? Quote
Alec1954 Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Why don't the club seek to use the Bridgewater Pub as a good day out? Yooffs and then the First team. The Landlord is an ex-Latics supporter who suddenly became a City fan last year. He would love Latics fans in his pub to challenge his road to Damascus change. Quote
philwhite Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Went to the friendly with Ashton United and was very impressed with the young uns. Quote
